There is No Teamwork in CTF

    "There is no teamwork in CTF" is a phrase I see often around the forums. And it's true, for the most part.

    Why is this?

    Well, I believe that this is the case because teamwork is not needed to play objectively. The way the game is designed promotes classes to single-handedly capture the flag, or in other words, without support.

    Ask yourself this: why would a new player learn teamwork, if they don't have to?

    I'll let you figure it out yourself, but here's the problem. We can't re-balance CTF around teamwork. Why? Because if the players have been raised on a game where teamwork isn't needed, take that away... and add a game that requires teamwork, the players will break down.

    It's like taking away something a child has been spoiled on for years. He'll throw a fit, just like I suspect most of the community would.

    In the end, all of this doesn't seem like much of a problem, does it? Let's just balance CTF where offense only needs to consist of at least one player, sounds great... or does it? Does it sound nice to give away the objective to one player? No. Not to me, at least.

    What I'm getting at is this: I would like to see CTF revolve around teamwork, but we can't unless everyone is on board, and the reason I'm making this post is to see what you guys think, and if some of you agree.

    Well... you are on a color team, and you're working with other people to capture a flag. What's the problem? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

    TBH, this is kinda true. I think that recovery should get a MAJOR buff, thus nerfing offense, but defense should also be nerfed. Is it reasonable that I can hold off almost anyone as one pyro on defense? No. Also, having weak defense means no games where there are no major steals, and having a strong recovery makes it so that it's very hard to turn a game into a stalemate. As of now, recovery is too weak and defense is too strong.

    If the enemy team knows what it is doing, teamwork is needed, believe me. The problem is more like: Whos actually playing the objective (capping, support, defense, recovery)?

    I actually see teamwork in CTF, I don't get why you don't. I see chemists sharing buffs, medics healing sometimes. There are often a lot of defensive players, as well as offensive. The only time I don't see teamwork is when there are like 4-10 people in each team.

    I think teamwork is overpowered. With teamwork, flagrooms are impenetrable with all the dwarves and pyros swarming around, offence can steal the flag with distraction from the team, flagholder's flag can't be recovered with engis, medics or anything else.

    Why bother using teamwork in a game that's not competitive? When I usually play CTF, I couldn't give a damn if I lost a game or if I won a game, so I don't use teamwork. In matches, I want to win and don't want to lose so I do work in a team. If CTF was more competitive all of the time, there'd be more teamwork.

    To be honest, I see teamwork sometimes. Yet, it's between KNOWN and OLD players. Most of the new players try, and usually can succeed, but a lot of times it usually fails, due to them having very little experience.

    Teamwork doesn't exist because half the people who play CTF are noobs and randees who don't know how 2 teamwork/don't care about teamwork and 4.532467424357785354/5 of all of CTF are Ninjas and Mages who can do everything by hitting stuff with a sword/damage spell repeatedly non-stop (which is basically 99.999999999999999999999% of all Ninjas and 96.457843574% of all Mages). And another 3/4 are people who do't even wanna play objectively (all of it still better than living in modern day DC {No offense}).

    CTf is all about teamwork... There are 2 teams with players that try to take the flag. It's not a 1v1 its a team vs team. If there's no teamwork then why are there medics, engineers and elves? working together is how you win 90% of the time. Yea it might be annoying to the enemies but don't they have a team too? No team = No victory/friends

    Try to cap solo against a pyro, dwarf, ninja, assassin and medic defense. It is pretty hard right? I get your point that we can't immediately force teamwork, but in my example, personally I would definately seek some help if capping solo was not working.

    The main problem I see is medic healing, many think this as well, it's so annoying, too annoying when a medic doesn't heal you. Kind of off topic but I think medic should get points that can be used for something if they heal/restore people. These points can be only used in that specific game to avoid like bots farming unlimited points.

    I do see lack of teamwork, but if you look at it from a different point of view, there actually is some teamwork. If there's an enemy with the flag there's at least 5 people chasing him, or an archer shooting at him/her. The people who don't even care about the flag are even helping, think about it, there are people rushing to the other side, which means that they are getting closer to the flag. The closer to the flag they get the more easier it is to get reinforcements to charge into the flag room and it would open up tons of strategies.

    I would see lots of more teamwork with CTF Matches, but of course, isn't that what it's all about? Team vs. Team, oh well. I would want CTF to be more team-based, but I don't really see anything that could happen for that to take place. Unless you got some sort of score for capturing the flag, and you got something valuable that people would actually like from that.
