Idea Instakill Pyro Rework

    Hotbar
    Slot 1: Diamond Axe
    Slot 2: 4 steak
    Slot 3: Fire Bow
    Slot 7: Fire Arrows
    Slot 8: Flag Compass
    Slot 9: Class Selector

    Passive Abilities:
    Permanent fire resistance

    Active Abilities:
    • Fire Bow
    Sets players on fire, for 4 seconds. The fire does double damage than normal. Does not explode.
    • Diamond Axe
    When you set someone on fire with the fire bow, you do more damage to them depending on how long you pulled back the bow. For example, if you pulled back a bow 1/2 of the way back, you'd do 5 hearts a hit to them. If you pulled back a bow fully back, you'd 1 shot them.
    • Fire Arrows
    Maximum of 1. If you hit someone with the fire arrow, you need to wait 3 seconds to get it back. If you miss, you only need to wait 1 second to get it back.

    This'd make it possible to instakill, but make it so you actually have to aim. If you miss, you need to wait 3 seconds to take another shot, making it more skill based. Also, you could work as a team easier to cap the flag, as the pyro can only shoot people once every 3 seconds.

    First of all, I like the solution of Fire Arrows. I really think this should be implemented, no matter what the rest is.

    I'd like to point out to you that giving them speed one when on fire removes the usual slowness-type effect you get at the moment, making it pretty hard for a pyro to catch up to a soldier. I think this is intended, but (as a soldier, even) I don't necessarily think of this as a good idea.. Pyro has pretty low mobility what with the pulling back arrows and trying to catch up to ninjas or soldiers, mainly. Want to limit this even more..?

    Also, I don't know if it's codeable to add multiple fire status (ethymologically correct plural!).. Then again, everything is codeable more or less.

    Apart from that, much in favor!

    Agreed, I don't think its a good idea either. Soldiers have enough mobility and giving them speed while they're on fire makes them much harder to stop when defending the flag.

    Also, I think Pyro should have more than 1 fire arrow at any given time since its Pyro's main tool to deal extra damage w/the axe.

    I don't know if you've ever tried archer in the flag room, but hitting players directly in a flag room is near impossible. Even with the splash explosion, players on your team are already blocking those. I'm strongly against fire arrows, I'd rather turn down the radius to one/two blocks in any direction - but the explosion is vital for this style Pyro to work.

    Would it be better if the arrows went through teammates, so they wouldn't block the arrows?

    I'm not sure if that can be a thing, but even then, getting a direct hit is still not the direction for Pyro, in my opinion. It works for archer because it's an instakill on hit, they have punch and they're long range. It works for elf because they have combos, they're more for midfield/roaming, and they can fly away. The problem with making Pyro have just arrows is Pyro's have such a short window to hit their enemy (speaking to the objective) - and just having one arrow WITH a cooldown makes it even more difficult. Pyro is a close range bow class so they're in melee range when they go to fight, so missing would either mean death for them, or they'd become one of those "okay I'll just run away so I don't die" classes.

    For how fast paced CTF is, I just think it would be too difficult to pull off a direct hit like that - and you removed flint and steel so there's no alternative way to light people on fire.

    What if it explodes but only does damage to 1 person? :stuck_out_tongue:

    If that were the case, then you'd be accidentally hitting people you didn't want to by accident. Like the soldier and medic were in the same radius but it "registered" on the medic - that would start diving into random chance and luck.

    Quar I think that can be coded for it to not register on medics pretty easily. Could be wrong, but I don't think that should be a problem.

    I agree with this, don't think it should have speed 1 at all.

    I agree, one of soldiers strats to get passed pyro is use the people who are in the flagroom who dont see you to your advantage. If someone walks in front of your arrows then the soldier can get out.

    EDIT: Fire bow no longer gives speed and changed fire arrow regen time
