So I'm looking to start getting into MCCTF more now. I can probably buy 4 or 5 classes atm, so what are your guys' suggestions?

When I used to play MCCTF during the MCPvP days I usually played Assassin and Ninja IIRC.

What classes are good and probably won't be nerfed? Like Dwarf is a great class but we can almost definitely expect it to be nerfed in the near future. I'd like some classes that are good and different from the free classes, but not so strong that they'll get nerfed.

You're moving too fast, you don't even know if you like it yet. Play for fun, then if you find yourself enjoying one aspect of CTF more than another, pick a class that'll fit that role.

As of right now the free classes are probably the most enjoyable ones. Don't get dwarf, necro or engi because they're too campy to be fun. If you really want one I'd recommend ninja or chemist because they can fulfill a bunch of roles and aren't generally regarded as cheap.

I wouldn't go for an absolute value of a class (hey, if there is something like this it will be fixed. Should be, anyway).
I'd go for what's fun the most.. I really recommend ninja as it is good for defense and offense and always a nice-to-have alternative for whatever you're doing. If you want to support or cap, get chemist, too. If you want to defend, get assassin and pyro.. If you just want to have a free bunch of fun, get mage.

You know there is free-class friday, right? You can test out every class there and judging by which is the most fun for you, or which one you would like to play more (remember, you'll get better at them!), or what you see other people doing, you can buy your classes. If you are defending and for example see @blackfurrykitty rek everyone in sight - including you - with chemist, then you see it has a lot of potential, but when you first play it yourself, you are most likely to die a few times..

I used to play MCCTF a few years ago and for the most part I enjoyed all the premium classes besides Dwarf and Necro. Although Mage, Elf, and I think Chemist didn't exist back then.

The main reason I wanted to get classes with high value (but not so high that they'll get nerfed) was because I'm thinking of getting into the competitive scene and I'd like to get some premium classes to give me a larger variety of things to do besides Soldier, Archer, and Medic. I don't mind playing a class that I normally wouldn't play in a random game if it means I'm contributing to my team more effectively and filing the roles that need to be filled.

That said, I do think I'll be getting Ninja and Assassin regardless of what happens as I remember them being my favorite classes back in the MCPvP days.

Well until about a month ago, I only played Archer and Medic. And they were fkn amazing, and I still love em both. But then I got Assassin and Pyro (ty ty @Xelasi) and I also love them as well!

I'd most likely suggest Ninja for a defensive/recovery class, mage or chemist for an Offensive class, and Engineer because engineer has so many different abilities and uses its just fun to screw around with.
But like the others were saying, try out some of the classes on freeday first, to see if you like them or not, just so you don't waist your money on a class you end up not liking. Don't worry, nothing will be changing any time soon. :grinning:

It depends on your play style.

If you're an offensively minded player who likes to try and cap or infiltrate deep into enemy lines and kill a lot of people, i'd recommend chemist, assassin, or ninja.

If you like mid-field offence/defense or just like overall supporting your team, i'd recommend engineer , mage, necro, elf, or pyro.

If you prefer defending the flag, or your side of the map, i'd recommend dwarf, pyro, mage, and assassin.

I'm a person who enjoys getting extremely invested into a few games rather than randomly playing a bunch of them. For me, MC, TF2, and CS are good enough.

I'd definitely recommend Ninja - Stealthy, sly and strong.

Theres a few catagories you can go through.
    Such as:
Poor at pvp: pyro, assassin, dwarf, and possibly engineer.
Good at pvp: ninja, chemist, and necro (I guess).
    Ranged pvp: Mage or elf.
Starter classes: All the free classes, pyro or ninja
    Crappy classe(s): necro.
    Popular classes: ninja and chemist.
Rare classes: elf, necro and engineer.
Op classes: chemist, dwarf and sometimes mages (if u r pro)
Capping classes: ninja, elf, and sometimes chemist.
Kill whoring classes: pyro, dwarf, assassin, and engineer. (Same goes with instakills (besides engineer))
Camping classes: engineer, necro and dwarf.
Defense classes: dwarf, pyro, (any class)
Recover classes: ninja, assassin, and elf.
    So forth...
