War 2.0 Information

Hey everyone,

As I was fighting a bunch of pink dressed soldiers in a strange and foreign country last week, I stumbled across a strange dead body. The body itself isn't what intrigued me: it was just @chickenputty's, which I easily managed to put down with my Usp45 a few seconds earlier (no surprise there). No, no, what really caught my eye were the two pieces of paper coming out of his left pocket. I didn't have the time to read properly, but I catches the words "war 2.0", "soon", "hype train" and "first class"...

More seriously though -- I'm sure most of you have probably already given up on the idea of ever seeing War 2.0 released. After all, it has been years, with the project originally announced in 2013. Well! It's time to put the frustration aside and to stop the rants, because I will be soon taking over the making of War 2.0. Mario and Signatured are letting me work on the project as they have something else in store.

We have decided to create a new, better guns plugin before working to War 2.0. The new plugin will add a lot of features, such as multiple scope levels (which are possibly timed) variable scoped movement speed, multiple fire modes players can choose between (depending on their preferences and ammo levels). Some guns will have the property of hitting multiple targets at a time, while others will shoot wall-piercing bullets! We're not planning on changing the controls, but the graphics/visual aspect will get an overhaul. I have already started implementing most of these features, and here is a sneak-peak:

I will try as much as I can to keep everyone updated on the progress via my Twitter. In the meantime, feel free to share your ideas on the forums or even directly with me, however you prefer.

CTF: Map Wave XI

Hey there, Brawlers!

We're really excited to be back with Wave XI (our second map wave here on Brawl). For those unfamiliar with CTF's map rotation system, we use waves to add new CTF maps built by our staff and community members. Waves are also used to remove maps players no longer enjoy playing in order to keep gameplay fun. These maps were chosen from those submitted to the "Map Submissions" subforum. If you didn't submit yours there with the "Complete" tag, or didn't provide us with a build ID, we probably didn't see it.

To start things off, here's @wintergreen3 's trailer!

And now, without further ado, let's get to the part you've all been waiting for; the maps!

The Originals:

ID - 280286
Featuring a centerpiece reminiscent of the original Pagodas, Flavorous' first winter-less addition to the rotation captures the essence of an early autumn morning nicely. Fighting will be hectic along the direct routes between the flagrooms, so it may be worth trying the less used, if longer, alternatives down the sides.

ID - 89306
quinox_'s first addition to the rotation features some of the most magnificent aesthetics of any CTF map to date. The flagroom has a somewhat unusual set of entrances / exits leading to either a covered route down the side or the verdant, open gardens.

ID - 302957
EddKrumbs' Orchid Cascades is easily the smallest map in this map wave (hence its 5 capture gameplay), and, as such, promises fast-paced gameplay that would seem to run contrary to its calm, peaceful theme. This map is a detailed one, so don't be surprised if you come across a hidden passage or two. ^^

ID - 178357
Based loosely on Halo's Blood Gulch, Tanks livens things with winding pathways, far more cover and one of my personal favorite flagroom designs. The treetops that blanket the map's middle will likely become a major battleground as well, given how readily they can be accessed.

ID - 282087
Tuscan City's beautiful rustic aesthetics are a testament to what we've almost come to expect from its builders, ikemulti and snowfoxD. The map mixes open space nicely with a variety of highly detailed underground routes.

Media Competition: Montage Wars

Hello Brawlers,

This is kind of a different event than we usually do. We're wanting to see your best filming, editing, and even commentating skills for the production of a video montage held on any of our servers. We realize this contest isn't for everyone, but we do encourage everyone to try to participate.

You have the month of May to record and produce the best montage you can. At the end of the month (May 31 at 11:59 PM CST), you have to have posted the YouTube link to your video in reply to this thread.

We're not going to be super strict about what a "montage" is, but we expect it to at least follow the definition which is, "the process or technique of selecting, editing, and piecing together separate sections of film to form a continuous whole" AKA you have to edit multiple clips from different recordings together.

Make it funny, serious, dank-meme-filled, anything! We want to be entertained.

We'll hold a week of voting between the community and staff to decide the ultimate top three winners. Onto the prizes already!

Prizes:

1st: 3 months of global Elite + $60 Brawl store credit

2nd: 2 months of global Elite + $40 Brawl store credit

3rd: 1 month of global Elite + $20 Brawl store credit

Consolation prizes: Anyone who submits a montage that clearly took time to make will receive 7 days of global Elite. This is per the digression of the staff team (as we cannot create set strict guidelines).

EULA Plans

As you know from our previous thread at https://www.brawl.com/threads/56867/, Mojang is wanting us to follow their EULA that states that we can only sell cosmetic based items to prevent pay-to-win.

We've been very busy in thinking of different ways to handle this, but below is our tentative plan as of now. This plan is subject to change as we discuss with Mojang and you all. But, keep in mind that this is just our plan on how to immediately prepare for the EULA. We are still working on a more long term plan.

MC-War

Personal experience boosts will be removed and replaced with the option to buy the whole server a global experience boost.

Guns, equipment, and perks will be purchasable with a very large amount of credits at certain levels (and removed from the store).

Capture the Flag premium classes

Purchasable through a very large amount of vote tokens (and removed from the store).

Hardcore Games premium kits

Purchasable through a very large amount of vote tokens (and removed from the store).

Wild West premium horses

Purchasable through a very large amount of in-game money (and removed from the store).

Rank benefits

All ranks before we switch to our EULA plans will be marked as "retro". This means that you will continue to get the previous benefits, as you did, along with any new additions to the rank. Any new rank purchases will no longer get EULA violating benefits. We will be introducing ways for normal players to gain what the ranks had.

The plans for MC-War are pretty permanent as @Totom3 is currently working on the new version of War which will be fully EULA compliant off the bat.

The plans for CTF and HG are kind of temporary while we look for a better solution for regular players to get premium classes/kits while not allowing everyone to have access of the bat.

We will do our best to honor the previous purchases that you all have made on Brawl. The purchases have allowed us to run the server to this day and we truly do appreciate it. However, keep in mind that we can not offer refunds as we are an operating business that uses the funds as we receive them.

EULA Sale

With all of that said, we are going to be having a sale up to the day that we switch to our EULA plans. This will allow you to purchase guns, equipment, perks, classes, kits, etc. before they are inaccessible via the store.

We're not trying to squeeze money out of the community, rather provide a nice opportunity to get the items you may of been wanting. Don't make a purchase if you are not confident in us!

PLEASE READ: So on Friday I went to an Aboriginal Awareness assembly, a story teller told my school a story that sent chills down everyones spine. I'm gonna do my best to write the story from what I remember. Although I am trying to fit a 20 minute presentation into a story, I think I wrote it well. Please note, this is an actual legend from the Canadian Coast Salish Aboriginal tribes. Also note that I listened to this story in the dark of an auditorium, inside an audience of over 500 people, and the story teller used a drum and enhanced speech make things intense/scary. Also note that this story may be frightening to younger readers.

The Legend of Qwalina

The story starts, when a young girl named Qwalina was born, the daughter of a chief. Life was normal for Qwalina, but she had a problem. Her land would always curl into a fist. She would try and uncurl her hand but the muscles would always pull it back into a fist. Luckily for her, her father was a chief. The chief called upon the greatest healers in the land. Qwalina was treated with the best medicine, and got attention from the best doctors. And then something extraordinary happened. Her hand uncurled, and stayed that way.
But it was a matter of days before the muscles in her hand curled up once more. And after seeing the best medicines fail, the healer told Qwalina that there was nothing they could do. Qwalina would have to live her life with only one good hand. She felt sad, and depressed. She knew life was going to be tough for her. But the worst was yet to come.

She started going to school, and her problems went from bad, to worse. The children at the school would see her hand, and laugh. They mercilessly teased and pointed at something that was different from them. It was some kind of instinct, to make fun of something that was different from the majority. Qwalina tried to hide her hand, she would keep it in her sleeve, or hide it behind her back. But the children still taunted. By the time Qwalina was thirteen years old, the teasing hadn't stopped.

Qwalina decided she had enough. She was sick of the laughing and pointing at school. She started to hate the kids there. And she did what she thought was her only option.
She ran away. Deep into the forest, and she never came out.

The children decided to make it a game, to go into the first and look for Qwalina, so they could tease her just a little bit more. But Qwalina adapted. She trained herself to sleep in the day, hidden from sight. She would only come out at night. But some of the older kids who could stay up late, would search for her after dark.
But Qwalina changed some more, she found an old black cloak. It was probably left by a hunter, but she wore it. And no one could see her moving amongst the trees at night. But she still had one weakness. The children could still listen for her, since she stepped on twigs and leaves as she moved. But Qwalina changed even more. She discovered a forest sound that she could mimic with her lips. And she could make it loud enough to cover up the sound of her moving. Whenever she moved, she would make a high pitched whistling sound, like the wind blowing through the trees. (Notice on the mask how her lips are pursed)
And then Qwalina was completely hidden. And then, some of the children who went looking for her at night.
Never came back.

Parents who wanted to keep their children would tell them before bed, that if they ever heard a whistling sound in the forest after dark, run. For Qwalina roamed the woods seeking for children. It was never known what happened to the kids, they just never came back.
Years passed, no one had searched for Qwalina in a very long time. But a son of a chief was born. A strong, powerful, brave young man. He boasted about his strength to his friends. He talked about how he was going to be chief one day. But one of his friends had enough of his boasting, and said "You think you are the bravest, you say you are the toughest. Prove it. Do something no one else can do."
The young man thought about this, and decided "You are right, I will do something brave. I will find the woman in the old legend. And I will bring back a lock of her hair."

They settled on this challenge. The young man set out at night, in search of Qwalina. He ventured to the deepest, darkest part of the forest. He found a creek, and walked up it, hoping for a sign that Qwalina was somewhere close. And while walking up the creek, he felt like something was watching him. He turned towards the forest and saw a dark figure moving amongst the trees.
And he chased it. He chased the figure for a long time, his knife in hand, ready to take a lock of hair. But the figure was faster then him. He had to stop to take a breath. He had lost sight of the figure.
Now he was alone and afraid. And that's when he heard it.

The high pitched whistle echoed around him. It was at that moment he remembered that before he went to bed at night, his father would always tell him that if he heard that sound in the forest after dark, run.
It was Qwalina.

And he never came back.

The northern part of the map is called Nether because on the very old map the nether was made of netherrack and lava, since that it's continued on to the newer maps with lava in it. (Unsure though! )

There is a vulcano on the map. The vulcano is the inside of the earth. The real nether looks like the inside of the earth, so the vulcano was called nether
