Goodbye to TFW and Goodbye from me

First of all this is probably gonna be moved since I don't know or bother to read the rules of this forum, but honestly it shouldn't be moved because this is only directed at the CTF community.

Anyway, yeah. TFW has disbanded. This post is to explain why/say goodbye/tell the history and stuff so if it doesn't interest you sorry but I felt I needed to write this.

The Flying Walruses Official Capture the Flag Team was created 3 years ago on August 9th, 2013 at 9:47:04PM EST. Starchang and snowtucs who were friends on Search & Destroy didn't like their leader and their experience there so they decided to make their own team. I had just gotten into ctf after snowtucs (my best friend irl) had recommended me the server. I asked him if I could join his new team and he told me to apply to Starchang, which I did, and I became the 4th member of the team. At first Star & snow were thinking of naming the team Code Red, but weren't sure about it so I suggested they name it something that snow & I had come up with as our band name, The Flying Walruses (It's inspired by the song I am the Walrus by The Beatles, which we were obsessed with at the time). I suggested it as a joke, I had no idea that they were actually gonna accept it, but they did, and The Flying Walruses was born. We eventually recruited some amazing people which I had a great time with and admired: mspeers, Aegisknight, matt576, etc. At the time I had developed severe social anxiety because of reasons in middle school and apart from snowtucs, I basically had no real friends, just a few good acquaintances. I really got hooked on the team scene because I didn't get that anxiety if I was just typing to people, and it made me feel like I had real friends online. We gained more members like camcole99, reegs417, tacxXbomber, cptcliff, Foodcourt, and we stuck to our motto of playing just to have fun, not for competition. And we definitely had fun.

Early TFW was like a family, I think. We would call often (I would never talk cuz social anxiety), talk and joke about life, have practices and small matches for fun. We planned and organized offense and defense during matches. We made countless inside jokes and acted like idiots in game. We started getting some attention from big players because of our name. We started getting more members like CookingIsSoFun, ak47theapple, zed0155, Lunalis, etc. and our first merc was LiquidCarbonite, who claimed that the team would last 6 weeks (hehe). We continued growing as CTF also grew. Around this time, Aegis made the most amazing trailer ever which is still in our team thread. We continued growing and grew so much that we decided to create a walrus council. It was made up of the originals at first (me, aegis, mspeers, snow, star) and then expanded when those people started leaving. I think 2 or 3 times we had 24/25 members. Anyway, we created permissions and ranks like co-leader, which I got.

Eventually lots of other people joined and left, I would list them but it would be too long and I'd probably forget some. snow became mod and Star left so I became coleader with snow. Things went sort of smoothly, although at this point most of the original members started leaving. Matt had already joined TT a while before, Aegis quit ctf and minecraft, reegs and tac had left for other teams. I think around now we accepted shadowlugiaex. Throughout her time on TFW she was extremely helpful and involved with everything. When snow quit ctf I became leader and I promoted her to leader as well. Around this time I realized that I should probably be making friends irl instead of online, and that doing what I was doing wasn't gonna help with the anxiety.

The era of shadow's leadership was probably some of the most productive in TFW history. We recruited tons of really good members, had tons of matches and started calling again and doing things together. Shadow really revived the team. At this time I did less as a leader because of all of the things I had going on irl and because shadow was doing so much. I was still rep but I wouldn't be on as much because I would get home every night at around 9pm and have to do homework and stuff. I also started focusing more on my real social life. As things progressed, I played in less matches and it got to the point where shadow was basically doing all of the work, while I just repped. I'm not exactly sure if that's what caused it, but shadow and I had a huge argument which I won't go into details on, and we had a period where things slowed down. Later shadow left the team. I'm not sure if it was because of the argument, but if it was, I'm really sorry.

After shadow left, all responsibility came back to me, but I was still under a lot of stress from school and applying to college and stuff. I didn't have the time or the dedication that shadow had to keep the momentum going (which had already slowed down a bit.) So I did the best I could at scheduling and playing in matches (and talking in calls.) Things died down a lot at this point and some members started leaving while none were coming in (shadow did all of the recruiting). This continued for around 4-5 months. And here we are.

Our roster right now is at 13 members, 4 of which are basically inactive. TFW has lost its motivation (because I haven't dedicated enough time for it) and it's dying. The past 2 weeks I moved into college and made some friends and I realize now that I need to give up CTF in order to fix my social life. It's really hard for me to do this because TFW has been such a huge part of my life but I can't really see any other way. I'm extremely proud of what TFW was, and I hope everyone on it enjoyed it as much as I did.

Since basically my entire ctf life has been on TFW, I don't really see myself on any other team. Also, I've said that the day I quit TFW is the day that I will quit ctf so... there's that. I'll still be on skype so if you want to pm me or something feel free. And I'll probably keep the tfw chat open, but it's over for TFW and for me.

@Aegisknight @mspeers You two are so cool. You're most likely not gonna read this but let me just say that some of my best time on tfw was when you were around.

@November Sorry I never learned the Stairway to Heaven solo qq You have an amazing taste in music and you're honestly one of the coolest people I've ever met on here. I was pretty depressed when you left TFW but I see you achieved a lot more than you would have if you stayed so I'm happy for you.
@Quarrelt I feel like at some point I offended you or something cuz you never answer my pms, but you were the best merc on TFW and CONGRATULATIONS YOU HAVE BEEN PROMOTED FROM TRIAL MERC TO FULL MERCENARY!!!!
@zed0155 You're probably not going to read this but you were one of our most dedicated members and I really appreciate that. You also had a really smart sense of humor which not everyone got but I thought was great.
@Lunalis I know you're not gonna read this, but you were one of my favorite teammates. You were always really fun and friendly and I won't ever forget that.

@Lugia_ Well, first of all, thanks for everything. You were without a doubt the best leader TFW had and I am really grateful for that. I probably would've written this post a long time ago if it wasn't for you. Some of the most fun TFW had was with you and some of the most fun I had was with you playing sab and stuff. I'm sorry for our argument, I was wrong, and I'm sorry if that's what made you leave. I know I usually don't write stuff like this so it must be a huge shocket, but I felt it needed to be said. Also, you need to show me some good sushi places
@Doctor_Noah You were one of our most loyal members. I guess you could say we left for similar reasons¿ so I hope everything goes well in life for you. You're really easy to get along with and you have a great sense of humor so have fun in college and life.
@cptcliff Thanks a lot for staying with us for so long. I'm sorry if you ever felt forgotten but personally I can say that I always admired you and your humor and you are basically the rp god. Take care Oklahoma
@Elliott_Moose The best archer I have ever met, you're also one of the people I've admired and felt comfortable with the most. You're a really great person which I had an awesome time with and I hope you design my house for me later.
@Puffy_Bunny Thanks for sticking around so long. Your sense of humor usually involved insults directed at me but that's ok because it was all really fun in the long run.
@Cosmicrose_ You were probably the most dedicated member as far as matches go and one of our best assassins. Thanks for all of the Mineplex games and all of those recovs.
