Community Tournament- MSW Invitational Season 1

Disclaimer

Upon talking with many committee members, community members, and overall ctfers around me, it came to my mind that “hey, the committee might actually not be planning a tournament”. First of all, we can come to this conclusion due to the current state of teams. There are 12 teams, with 10 that are actually *notably* active match wise (by match wise I mean being able to semi-consistently be able to schedule, show up, and provide the required amount of members). Although I claim there are 10 active, keep in mind that this is my personal opinion. Also, I do not speak for or represent the committee, so do not rely on my words completely.


With this said, let’s put into consideration power rankings. A majority of the community can conclude that the top teams are TT, RR and DF, which can usually outperform most teams when it comes to matches. As stated earlier by MSW multiple times, these statements and claims are gathered from MSW Analyst's, personal opinions, match results, and overall community feedback.​

Main Post ​

A majority of us can agree that a tournament with all 12 teams would probably not be possible. With that said, MSW has decided, and successfully planned a community tournament catering to the convenience of most CTF teams.​

Now, before we hop right into the idea itself, I need to give out well deserved credit to my MSW team in helping me with this tournament.

How it Works​

We will be inviting the top 6 teams that are not TT, RR, and DF, and that we believe will have general interest in the actual tournament itself. The teams that we will be inviting can be seen below:

At the start of the tournament, the teams will be separated into two groups of three teams. These groups will be completely randomized. Upon randomizing, each team will fight the other teams in their group once, meaning that each team will have two matches in the group stage. The two top teams in each group will then move onto the elimination stage. The number one team in group A will face the number two in B, and the number one in B will face the number two in A.

Matches​

Matches in both the group stage and elimination will be best of 5. During the elimination portion, one map ban will be allowed per team. This feature will not be in the group stage. The map selection will go as following (this system can be changed if a majority of teams request it to) :

• Map 1 and 2 pick will be choice picks by each team.
  
  
• Map 3 will be the agreed pick.
  
  
• Map 4 will be a randomized selection from the updated map wave.
  
  
• Map 5 will be a randomized vault map. The vault maps that we have chosen have been made sure that they aren’t complete garbage. To make sure that teams are content with our selections, @LordCh4os will be posting our vault map selections in the comments once they are completed. Maps from this portion will be removed from the list if a majority of the teams decide for it to be.

If teams do not want this system that we have suggested, then we will be going with maps 1/2/4/5 pick by team, with the third map being agreed.

The same rules will apply to every team, and goes for both group and elimination stage matches. The rules are as follows:

This list of rules can be changed if agreed upon by the general consensus of invited teams. This tournament is supposed to cater to both the community, and to the teams players. We want this to be a fun yet competitive experience for all.

When will this happen?​

After much planning, debating, and discussions, we have decided to have this tournament to occur in January. To make it occur in November would be too soon, December with exams holidays. Although there still may be some people having exams in early January, we will be dedicating this month purely for the group stage. This means that each team will have one month to have two matches. This should be more than enough time for the group stage to occur. If a team cannot finish their group matches in the given month without proper reasoning, they will be disqualified from the group stage.


The elimination segment will occur in February. After this, a one month duration will occur until season two. So basically, season two will occur in April, with improved rules and overall quality.

Prizes​

Teams will be awarded prizes depending on their performance. We plan on releasing signatures for teams to put on their threads. For example, we plan on making a signature with either a gold trophy or medal, with the tournament name, season, and placement. We will do this with second place (silver) and third (bronze). During the elimination stage, we will name MVP's for each total match, and will compile the list of our MVP's to vote for our Season 1 MVP. The winner of this will receive a signature if they wish.

Admitting interested teams that weren’t invited in the first season​

With only 6 teams allowed in the tournament (per season), some teams may be feeling left out. With this, we will be having a “Promotional Tourney” in each break month between seasons. These promotional tournaments will feature the two teams that were not able to get out of the group stage, and teams that are interested and meet our qualifications. The top two teams in this promotional will be invited to season two.

Note-

Most of this information can change if the teams that we have invited have a majority decision to change aspects. Also, although the tournament name is currently MSW Invitational, we are inviting others to come up with other names that we could possibly use. We ask that all teams accept their invitations, as this tournament requires a minimum of 2 matches, and a max of 4, allowing for a fun, competitive, convenient tournament. Tourny matches will be streamed and recorded, and articles will possibly be written unless teams request otherwise.

 

So far TC and Unity have confirmed their invitations, and BK is highly probable from what I know. Reps/leaders, pm me to confirm invitations or if you have questions.

From what I've been told, ADV has accepted the invitation (correct me if I am wrong). If this is so, then Defy is the last team that needs to respond. Once we have all the teams, I'll be speaking with the reps with rules, and will have the finalized bracket for group stage, rules, and maps by next week hopefully.
