Book The Never Ending War (Sheriffs vs Bandits)

The bandits had forcefully taken control of the Wildgrass rebel base. Whoever had been hanging around when the takeover occurred was now dead, or had been captured by the bandits to be used as bait.

Now the sheriffs stationed at Frisco knew of this attack and were at this time preparing to swiftly re capture the base before the bandits could establish themselves. Pistols were cocked, shotguns were loaded, the rifles were primed, and the Kevlar was equipped. The sheriffs had also sent out messengers to the other towns requesting for sheriff reinforcements, but they knew that by the time reinforcements arrived the battle would have already been fought. There were only five sheriffs to go up against the dozens of bandits, but many of the locals from the town of Frisco had volunteered to ride and fight with the sheriffs. The sheriffs, Verlyn, Breeze, Darktitan, TheTrogs, and Unknown, met inside the small sheriff station to discuss potential tactics.

“We should rush through the front and take down as many as we can.” Breeze hammered his fist on the table to bring conviction to his point. Dark slowly shook his head, “If we rush in then too many civilians will be put at risk.” There was silence in the room until TheTrogs spoke, “What if we try the usual tactics where a few of us draw the bandit’s attention, while the rest of us sneak around and attack from behind?” UnknownPleasure and the rest of the sheriffs were nodding in agreement. Verlyn cleared his throat and said, “I see a problem with that, there are so many of the bandits that they are sure to have lookouts posted everywhere. We might be able to distract a few but they will stop us before you can even get close.” A small smile crept across DarkTitan’s face, “Let me handle that part.” “Then it’s settled.” Said Breeze.

The smell of horses would have been unbearable to anyone not living in the Wild West, but to the 25 citizens of Frisco it smelled like the freshest air known to man. The horses could feel the anxious excitement radiating off of the people, which made them whicker and neigh excitedly. DarkTitan had departed earlier telling them to attack when he gave the signal, but he refused to say what the signal was just to add dramatic effect. It was decided that Breeze and TheTrogs would lead 15 of the townsmen into a frontal assault on the rebel base, while UnknowPleasure and Verlyn waited with the other 10 to bring in a second attack wave once they saw the signal from DarkTitan. “Mount up!” Shouted Verlyn. After a few minutes of shouts, snorting from the horses, and dust clouds, the entire group was mounted and ready to ride.

In a few hours the group was standing 250 yards away from the main entrance to the base. Everyone was told to be quiet, so they might be able to hear any noise coming from the base. The base made not a sound. Breeze trotted into the base alone; to make sure no one was waiting to ambush them as they walked in. A few moments later he reappeared and motioned for the 15 citizens and TheTrogs to enter with him. All of the 15 pulled out their pistols and made sure they were fully powdered and loaded. Then they all dismounted so as to protect their steeds from the danger of the lead bullets. Trogs, Breeze, and the citizens of Frisco silently crept through the entrance of the base, trying to get as close to the processor as possible before they had to start firing. Unknown, Verlyn, and their battalion of citizens retreated to a safe distance to wait for Dark’s signal.

The most unnerving part of it all was the silence. Everyone was poised, not a soul moved except for the citizens moving on the inside of the base. It felt like hours were going by, but in reality it was only seconds. All of Verlyn’s and Unknown’s citizens jumped as the first gun shot rang out. This gunshot was followed by many and in seconds the air was filled with the ring of bullets being fired. Men and horses screamed as they felt the bullets tear through their skin. Verlyn was making his horse trot in circles, “Where the ---- is Dark?” muttered Verlyn. As if to answer his pleas, a figure riding hard towards the base, was about to cross the train tracks. Everyone started pointing and shouting, trying to be heard over the never ending explosions of the guns. UnknownPleasures trotted up to Verlyn and asked. “Is that Dark?” Verlyn did not look happy, “How the heck is he supposed to cause a distraction large enough to give us the opportunity to attack?” As the figure came close it became clear that it was indeed DarkTitan.

“C’mon, let’s get ready to charge in, if he does pull off a distraction.” Verlyn then motioned for everyone to turn their horses and prepare their guns.

DarkTitan was now at the back of the rebel base; even from back there he could hear the gun fire. He jumped down from his horse a few yards away from the faded wood walls. He then unslung a large bulky object that had been attached to the back of the horse. DarkTitan then loaded the rocket into the RPG, he took aim at a lower section of the wall, and then he fired the rocket.

Breeze had taken shelter behind a few wound wooden posts by the farm area of the Wildgrass base. He had with him 6 of the Frisco citizens, all of whom were covered with dirt, sweat, and blood. Trogs had taken the rest of the surviving citizens into a building that sat near the drug processing building. On the ground in front of the processing building lay the corpses of the citizens who had fallen in the initial gun battle. Breeze knew that they would have to retreat if they did not get reinforcements soon. Breeze quickly sidestepped out into the open, fired two shots from his revolver and then leapt back into cover. He didn’t know how many they had killed, but it didn’t matter at this moment. Now the only goal was to retreat without any more losses. Just as Breeze was about to call out a retreat, a massive explosion struck the back of the Wildgrass base. Breeze hadn’t been standing very near to the blast, but his ears were ringing painfully. Though his ears weren’t working properly his eyes were doing just fine, so he could watch as Verlyn, UnknownPleasure, and the remaining citizens of Frisco, charged inside the rebel base with their guns blazing the way.

In a few short minutes the bandits had tossed their guns out the door, and had walked out with their hands up. All of the bandits were then cuffed, because the sheriffs for some reason carry an infinite number of handcuffs wherever they go! The captives of the bandits were also freed, but were arrested because they were trying to process drugs themselves. The bandits were forced to walk all the way back to Frisco where they were all crammed into a small holding cell, until they could be transported to the main prison.

“Where on this blazing earth did you get that?” Verlyn and the other sheriffs were back in their meeting room celebrating their victory with a nice assortment of whiskeys. The rocket launcher was peacefully lying on their table looking as innocent as ever. DarkTitan shrugged and only said, “I have connections.”

While the sheriffs in this story are real players, and I did try to use some of their personality, I did invent most of the way they act. So, their actions in this story does not reflect how they act in game. Now time to tag all of Wild West! Let me know what you think!
