    Build Applications
    Last updated on 11/11/21

There is much to be built here at Brawl and we would love to see new members! Unfortunately, not everyone is up to the task. Here, you will learn exactly what we want from you regarding what build members do and what we require of you!

    Builds
    What we require of you.

There’s one job we expect of you when you become a builder. To build! We want to see how well your building skills are. There is no faster way of being denied the role of builder than not having up-to-par builds. For reference to see what we are looking for, check the builds around the server and in the map submissions forum. It is also recommended to check both the accepted and denied categories in the build team applications.

For you to be considered we want to see:
    • Detailing: Make your creations pleasant to look at. Add depth, shape, and texture to create a pleasant reward for the eyes. Make sure to not-over detail, however! This will make the build difficult to look at and look spammy/messy.
    • Block variations: Use multiple blocks to give your build different colors and textures. Nobody likes looking at a wall that is composed of only 1 block and hence, looks the same on all parts. Sounds boring, doesn’t it?
Use brighter blocks on important sections of the build to move people’s eyes to those areas. Make sure to use a similar color scheme and everything flows nicely together.
    • Style: We want to make sure you know how to build in multiple styles so you can work on more projects. Not all of our projects are medieval or modern. Some may be suburban and others may be futuristic. Make sure to show off multiple styles in your application. The more the merrier!
    • Terraforming: Terrain is a very important part of a build. It gives the build atmosphere, determines how open or closed it will feel, highlights important areas, and much more. We want you to be experienced with making exceptional terrain either by hand or with voxel/worldedit. If you know how to use programs like worldpainter, that will be great as well! Make sure to make the terrain flow nicely together and has good natural shapes.
    • Creativity: Nobody likes looking at the same type of builds over and over again. Try to be creative and think outside the box! It’s good if you can build in medieval or modern, but try to expand upon it into something that is unique.
    • Organics: We want to see how good you are at making natural shapes. Statues, custom trees, and landscaping would all fall under this category. This would also apply to anything that resembles something in real life like vehicles.
    • Knowledge of building tools (Worldedit & Voxel): We want you to know how to use these tools. These tools make buildings much more efficient and you should know how to reliably use them and not accidently completely destroy a build. If you are unsure on how to use these, here are some helpful guides:

    Guidelines
This is what we do not want you to do in your application.

    • Plagiarism - This will not be tolerated. If your application contains plagiarised work, you will immediately be denied and your chances of being accepted afterwards drop dramatically. Be honest with your application and not leech off others. It will only end bad for you. Don’t think we won't find out.

    • Redstone Creations (Redstone / Command blocks / etc.) - If you are godlike with redstone, that’s amazing. That stuff is too complicated for me. Unfortunately, we do not have much use for redstoners. Albeit, they have cool features, we focus mainly on building and we already have members that are fully capable with redstone. If you can do both, that’s great! You can mention it in your application but do not make it the focus of your post.

    • Pixel Art - Pixel art will not get you accepted. It generally does not require much building skill to do. If you can make some truly impressive artwork it could boost your app, but for the most part refrain from adding it to your application.

    • Dishonesty - Do not attempt to lie about your building skills, available time, etc. If you do and get accepted you will have a very hard time with your projects and we will eventually discover your dishonesty and will rightfully demote you and diminish your chances of being accepted again.

    Activity
How long you should spend time on the servers.

Activity is the second most important aspect of becoming a builder. You need to be active on Brawl or on the building server. Activity on Discord and the forums is not as important, but it's recommended to be active on those as well. The more builds on these servers is a good indication of how active you truly are. It is good to be online at least 5 hours a week.

    Maturity
How you should behave once you achieve builder.

“Builder is considered a staff rank, so you should expect the same maturity requirements as are expected of staff. You are trusted not to mess up crucial projects, and also act as a role model to the community. Here is a piece of the build team guidelines.

'Those that are associated with the Build Team are considered staff members and should behave as so. You are responsible for your behavior on Brawl, as well as other servers. Be sure you are always friendly while online. If you do not have something helpful or nice to say, simply do not speak. If you can't handle yourself accordingly, we will take appropriate measures to adequately discipline you.

While it is not your duty to respond to players in chat do your best to forward players to someone who can assist them. This can be as simple as telling them to use /report or to post on the forums. Ignoring them is always preferred over telling them off negatively.'

Make sure you're following the above before applying, as people have been denied in the past due to immature actions.”

    -Unlimited maps on McBuild.
-Bypass private but not banned on McBuild.
-Can publicize, private, and save maps on maps you do not have permission in on McBuild.

    Summary

Being a builder is a big responsibility and you must be sure you are ready to handle it. Make sure to spend time on your application. Correct any grammatical errors, provide detailed information, and provide quality pictures. Do not rush and make a bunch of different builds and submit them to become builder faster. Take your time and strive to keep improving.
Don’t fret if you get denied. Take note of the criticisms and suggestions people will give you about your application and use it to improve.
Please wait 1 month before submitting another application!

Build doesn't have the VS plugin, so no access to that in Build. However, there is VS and WE on the build team server, which is where most projects are being built.

Used to have the voxel plugins on the old Build server, but they were only available if you were oped due to no restrictions. Those were the days.
