Farming vs Stat Farming vs Targeting

I feel like there are some players (staff in particular) that are still unsure of the difference between these terms, so i'd like to elaborate for the sake of not having anyone get flamed/banned for the wrong reason.

Farming vs Targeting
I feel as though this is the most misunderstood term we use in casual CTF. I consider Farming to be the repeated killing of a player(s), just like Targeting; except with Farming, the players are both aggro. This basically means that farmers will only kill***** if the victims are also aggro, whereas with Targeting you're continually chasing & killing them while leaving other players alone. There are a number of players that (99% of the time) abide by the definition of Farming above, such as myself, and I just wanted to clarify this to prevent false bans. I personally farm so often because half of the server just wants to chill and talk most of the time, and not having an alex crit you out every 40 seconds is a highly popular preference.

Farming vs Stat Farming
This is where the water gets murky. There are some AVs that people will be caught red handed for stat farming, such as recovery spam; However, in the case of kill-related AVs, it is much harder to differentiate between Farming and Stat Farming. In my opinion, unless you're literally lining up players/alts from the other team and killing them over & over, there's really only two ways to tell if it's one or the other. Either you're unintentionally progressing AVs while Farming, or you're Targeting any players you can find (typically inferior in pvp) and "Farming" them to grind the AVs. Both of these instances occur very frequently, which should only make identifying them correctly easier from this point on.



I feel like the only way these differences can be accurately identified would be to have at least one staff member spectating every game, which would honestly be a general improvement to quality of gameplay for other obvious reasons. Chat gets more obnoxious by the day, primarily for these reasons, and they often go unaddressed/ignored due to a lack of staff presence. Hopefully this will help the CTF community find more educated approaches towards Targeting & Stat Farming, and most importantly clean up the server of its veteran offenders in these areas.

 

Very good point. I think those individuals are primarily newer players, as personally I acknowledge that i'm getting too cocky trying to win a 5v1 every map lol. It's all about maturity, which the newer player base seems to lack to some extent. At the same time it also forces them to learn how to work with their team, allowing groups of new players to combine personal experiences and ultimately giving us great offensive players like Lceman502, Foodcourt, Sly_Leopard, etc.
