So I decided to resign again as you can see from this post, and unlike last time this time, I will be gone for way longer if not forever.

The reason I resigned is that becoming any higher rank than SMOD was simply not possible for me anymore due to some reasons if you want to know why PM me, as I don't know if I can tell that here.

With this resignation message, I would like to take my experience within this staff team to point out a few things that I think this server does well or should improve upon.

I have been in the staff team for more than a year in total and from day one I noticed things that were off and wrong, and especially this time when I became a staff again I noticed some flaws that could majorly impact the flow of how Brawl works and grows. I personally believe I have grown a lot in terms of maturity the last half-year which is also most likely because of me becoming a supervisor at my local supermarket which gave me the role of setting an example but also guiding and helping customers and new colleagues. Although a Minecraft server and a supermarket seem like two wholly different things there are actually quite some similarities.

One thing I have noticed that is way more important than it first seems is the connection between higher up and jmods/mods. It’s absolutely vital you feel comfortable talking to your higher-ups and feel like you can trust them. I’m not pointing out who does this well and who doesn’t just because I don’t think that’s the best idea.

Especially before when I was in the staff team I felt ignored by higher-ups, often not getting any responses to my messages at all leaving my having to repeat it multiple times, which is not just frustrating but more importantly, gives the feeling like you’re annoying or bothering that higher up. To be fair I haven’t spoken much to higher-ups since I last became staff again so this may have improved or not. But I really feel like showing that people can always message you about anything is incredibly important,

Sure, you can’t always message and sometimes you are busy, but I don’t think it’s impossible to leave a quick message such as “hey I’m quite busy right now I’ll read your message later, message me again if I forgot to reply ”.

This leaves such a different impact on the person rather than just ignoring and then forgetting about it.

Another thing is the player count of Brawl, it's not dropping but not growing either, and I think I know why this is. All game modes except Party and Build are not noob / new-player friendly at all.
Ctf is confusing with all the kits, WarZ, War, and KitPVP new players get destroyed by the skill gap or don't understand all aspects of the game. Like I myself could never be bothered to get into playing WarZ just because I would get killed over and over again, and especially in a game like WarZ where you have to take quite some time to loot up to then and then finally be ready for a fight to then most probably get killed is just very demotivating.

I feel like Minecraft players want a game mode they can quickly hop in and go along with the other players and rest of the community, something simple like SkyBlock or Prison. SkyBlock and Prison are both very popular and are very noob friendly, it also isn't as competitive, even though it can be if you want to by having PVP area's, etc. which is a win-win for those that like competitiveness and those to have a relaxing time.

I feel like Minecraft players, and this goes for me as well, don't want to spend hours and hours if not days into understanding the game and finally being able to somewhat get along. And I think that's why our player count isn't growing. Of course, the player count has almost doubled, if not doubled since the corona crisis, but that's mostly people coming back I feel, and I feel like when this Corona crisis is starting to come down a bit, so will the player count. So I'd suggest personally adding either Skyblock or Prison if not both within this year.
And if I'm not wrong this is somewhat a plan of putty judging from his poll he held in-game.

The dev situation is also a bit vague, right now I feel like the devs are a bit all over the place. Right now there are devs that I haven't seen code anything in ages and I feel like there's no general dev like there was with Redslime, although Redslime wasn't actually the 'general' dev. You could go to him and ask for minor changes across all game modes. And when asking someone else for updates it would take ages right now. So I feel like within the staff team it has to be made clear, who codes what, and what can currently not be coded. For example, paul is for WarZ, and WarZ only, so don't ask him for thinks regards CTF or KitPVP.
This is somewhat known, but not clearly stated anywhere, which can lead to confusion within the staff team as for example with KitPVP we had no clue what the state of the game mode was and what to do.

Anyways, I'll hop on from time to time on Brawl, but the main reason I returned was to host events as an event manager and to become smod again, which as I said is not possible for me anymore. And I simply just don't Brawl in general that much anymore.

Anyways best of luck in life to you all.

Thanks for your contribution to Brawl, buddy boi.

    Shortly:

I heavily agree with your points about gamemodes. I’ve been talking about this with a lot with different people, and it’s quite clear that non-minigame gamemodes and gamemodes in which it is possible to lose items or progress are not the current meta anymore.

People don’t have time and energy to grind recources and then have a chance to lose them in an instant. As an example, faction servers used to be huge back in the day, but are dying quickly today (basically dead already). Raid and WarZ fall in this category, and unfortunately they will slowly die out. As you mentioned, the only reason they are alive now is because of the old community sticking by.

War fits the current meta, but like you said the skill gap is too high. When 2.0 was released I thought to myself perhaps the only way War could survive would be if every good player quit. No one knows about the future; maybe things will change.

    Shame that you left Staff.
Together with Ben and Marth we now have lost 3 War-relatee mods.

I can understand your reasoning though.
I agree on the part that new players don't really have a clue what to do, when they first join War. Most newbies don't bother to read the book, and while it's a 100% their own fault for having no clue about the game as a consequence, we should think of a way on how they can receive these informations.
    Maybe like an automated tutorial?

Anyways, I wish you best of fun for the future.
