    Hello CTFers,

We are finally making the last preparations for the next CTF Map Wave (XVII)! This map wave is going to be a little different than the previous ones because we've realized that a couple of things needed to be changed. Indeed, we want to have good maps for casual CTF, but we also want to give the proper feedback to the map makers.

What will be the new process?

    1) Players will submit their new map(s).

    2) New maps submitted will be allowed to be tested in PPMs (see this thread for more information: https://www.brawl.com/threads/76815/).

    3) After 30-40 maps submitted, CTF staff members will look at each map and handpick the best ones.

    4) Handpicked maps will go in the map wave testing period.
    • Exceptional reworks of maps currently in rotation might automatically replace the previous version in rotation, without needing to go through the map wave process (this won't be for all map reworks, only ones we consider a really big improvement).

    5) We will try to provide detailed feedback for maps that we didn't select so that map makers may improve them in the future.

How will the Map Wave work?

    1) Handpicked maps will be on casual CTF for a testing period.
    • The testing period is going to last at least 2 weeks (can be changed if needed).

    2) Since we won’t have Spotlight Saturdays anymore, the map makers will be able to modify their map in the first half of the testing period.

    3) After the testing period, the community will be able to vote on the maps.

    4) CTF staff members will release the results of the vote and the new Map Wave maps will be added into the current rotation.

    Additional information

If you changed your map and want it to be committed during the first half of the testing period, you can look at this thread: https://www.brawl.com/threads/76815/. We implemented a new way to get your map changes active in-game.

    Map Wave XVII

There is an official deadline in place for all map submissions to make it into the testing phase (if handpicked) of the next map wave. You must submit your map(s) on the forums by August 23, 2020, if you would like it to be eligible for the next map wave. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your map and its configuration, please contact a member of the CTF Staff Team.

We are always open if any of you have suggestions about this new process. We hope the new things we are implementing are going to be better than what we had before.

    Happy capturing!

The changes sound like a good mixture between the old map choosing process (pre 2016?) and the current one

But I'm not a fan of that rather short deadline, it would have been better if the announcement of the official deadline happened some weeks in advance, just like it was done for previous map waves

Also, is there a certain reason why Spotlight Saturdays do not exist anymore? I always found them to be quite helpful, especially because of their non-competitive nature

The deadline is short because we already have around 80 maps submitted, so we have to work around that for this new map wave. In the future, we will for sure announce the deadline earlier.

We are still unsure about Spotlight Saturdays, some people told us it was not really working to have feedback, some others liked it, so it's quite difficult to have a general idea of it. We didn't do any Spotlight Saturday in the past months because we were too busy with the summer update. Now that we have the Maps Team, it's way easier to plan things, so I don't want to say that we won't do any other Spotlight Saturdays in the future, but I also don't want to say we will for sure have those back. We are still trying to see if this new process will be better than what we've had before, but it will be good to see what the community is thinking about adding Spotlight Saturday to this new process or not (for future map waves, not this one).

I think just randomly announcing a testing period for like a weekend could be okay. For example you see like 10 decent maps have been submitted. Could try adding them to a rotation just for a weekend.
