Idea [Class] Fisherman

    Hello this is your boy, Scoundrel. @dantered and I both put ideas into this class and considered what CTF might benefit from in regards to a new class. Our understanding is that playing on offense is a total hell hole and that for the most part, staff is looking into making a new offense-oriented class to help. This class concept would be (in our opinion) an incredible support class and at the same time an incredible defense class. We've gotten some feedback from @tri and @puhdgy.

    Fisherman
    Support-oriented crowd control class.

    A fisherman would primarily play offense, focusing on supporting the flag carrier and the offensive medic. While we see fisherman as a support class, however, we believe it has enough perks to play an important role as roaming/defense as well.

    Armor and Loadout

    [ Blue leather helmet and chest, gold pants and boots (simulates rain coat and rain boots) ]

    [ Sharpness I fisherman sword, fisherman steak, fisherman rod, catch (clownfish), fisherman compas, class selector ]

    Basic Items

    Fisherman Sword
    Sharpness I, used for pvp and to block.

    Fisherman Steak
    Heals 4 hearts per steak.

    Fisherman Compass
    Directs player to either flag.

    Class Selector
    Opens class selection HUD.

    Unique Items

    Fisherman Rod
    (Lure throws straighter and faster than vanilla rod) Hooking an enemy player and recalling lure will drag them towards you by 3-4 blocks. The time until you will be able to "hook" someone again is 5 seconds. You also would not be able to recall the lure until it has landed on a person or hit the ground/void.

    Catch
    Passive (While holding) - Grants you speed I and enchants your boots to depth strider I
    Active (Right clicking on teammate) - Extinguishes a single player who is on fire. There would be a 15 second cooldown, however, killing someone will enable the ability again.

    Playing as a Fisherman
    We personally envision a fisherman joining offense and fitting in moments after the offensive leads are able to steal the flag. Using their speed ability to catch up, their "catch" to extinguish fire from pyros, and their rod to get scary recovery classes off the flag carrier's back. Looking at this class from a defensive point of view, it does not utilize all of it's abilities as much as it would on offense. It would be able to slow people from either entering the flagroom, or trip them from leaving once they steal. We feel that this class shines it's brightest when played as a roaming class. A fisherman would be able to stumble incoming offense, while still being somewhat close enough to support their flag carriers.

    - Survivability of a tree in California
    - The abilities are pretty underwhelming, would either need big buffs or a revamp
    - Not really geared toward either playstyle in any way. It offers minimal support for very specific situations

    I agree with visque that the abilities are a bit underwhelming

    But the concept is good

    Cool concept for sure and can already think of some fun plays with the fishing rod.
    I like that it's not capable of doing the spammy fishing rod PvP strat cause honestly that is one of my most hated things to play against. I feel like it'd be cool if the fishing rod was able to hook both enemies and teammates, that way you could fish out your flag carrier from a potential recovery (yet again people could definitely troll their own team with this).
    I feel like the fish would be quite difficult to use, often if a player is on fire they tend to be standing right next to a pyro so would likely be quick dropped before you can extinguish them. Maybe the fish could become water element 2.0, just yeet that sucker on the ground to provide immunity to fire.
    Lastly, I think you could boost the armour/steak just a little for the class, the only other offensive class that has 3 steak is Heavy and given it's current state I feel like this class would be quite easy to drop.
    Overall solid idea, like the format of the thread to, it looks beaut. :wink:

    fisherman feels weak to me too, and one ability from my class concept you might like is 'downwind'.
    looking at fisherman, speed I is utterly useless since you should be getting buffed regardless. I suggest:
    Downwind: While looking in the direction of the compass, Atlas has speed II.
    could limit it to looking in the direct of the enemy flag to make sure its not good for defense :smile:

    Personally I would make the depth strider effect level III also :stuck_out_tongue: would be rather nice for og getty gardens among others.
