Idea (Class) Berserker, Offense Support

    This game is in desperate need of a new support class. I've thought a class with crowd control capabilities is what we need for offense to be fun again.

    Items
    Slot 1: iron sword
    Slot 2: 3 steak
    Slot 3: golden axe

    Armour
    Diamond helmet
    Iron chest plate
    Iron leggings
    Iron boots

    Ability
    When the berserker gets hit by an enemy, it charges energy. Similar to how Pyro works with its frenzy. It will take 5 hits to fill the XP bar. Projectiles do not fill the XP bar. Once the XP bar is full, the pyro can right click with the golden axe to deal 3 hearts area damage to nearby opponents and send them flying, also taking some fall damage. After the ability is used, it will have a cool down of 10 seconds before it can begin charging for it again.

    Conclusion
    I thought a tanky class with this ability would be a great addition to the game. There really isn't a support class on offense (besides medic) that goes beyond just hitting the enemy away. With this, you can delay enemies long enough for the flag carrier to get away from the crowds of defenders. Defense would have to take a new approach to dealing with this enemy. Now the defense is worried about feeding the berserker frenzy, and will have to resort to keeping its distance with mage and engineer.

    Really like the idea of offense being able to do some crowd control as they're usually getting bullied by defence. Very similar to some older ideas that I vaguely remember. Awesome work Bama!

    That's useful as it is, but seeing as this class doesn't have a massive health pool or any means of healing over time, I'd suggest adding a second ability to the sword as follows: When your energy is full, you would also have the option to use your sword to inflict a "shackle" on the player you're looking at. You would block your sword for 1 second (1000ms) until it releases, and if it hits somebody they get slowness V for 2 seconds. The radius on this should be about 10 blocks, as any further would allow the Berserker to crowd control enemies from vantage points on maps like Blackout. This would allow it to server a much greater purpose, being able to paralyze incoming pyros attempting to recover, or paralyzing a carrier long enough to get your own pyro in for a frenzy, making void swaps more deadly if timed correctly, etc.. In terms of pushing up for offense, I foresee it being quite effective in supporting your medic and warding of ninjas that can sometimes get nasty combos. It could also be used to clamp down the pyro for a clean steal, which might be a bit op but idk.

    I like this idea actually, it would give the class more than 1 purpose. Perhaps this could just be a remake of Dwarf than a completely new class called Berserker. Both of these ideas are good and could be effective in different situations hence why I think they'd be cool to have together.

    Hello after much time I have decided to become mildly active on forums again so I'll put my comments of this idea here.

    Yes, I feel like a support class is needed in the game, and this is a rather interesting idea given that it is focused around hard cc abilities, I could definitely see this becoming a real ctf class in the game. However, I have to ask how would you envision your kb thing to be? I think this support class should come with some type of healing ability maybe along with the axe charging ability, so that it also fulfills another niche other than knocking people away?

    My main concern is that this seems to be as much a defense class as it is meant to be an offense support class, would like to see how this would be otherwise modified to suit offense needs atm along with what Forleb said, another ability would be pretty cool + would increase its utility :smile:

    I really like the idea of a crowd control support class on offense. Necro does good work, but it has it's shortcomings and I think Berserker can make up for them. Also +1 to Visqe's addition to the idea, I like the dynamic and flexibility of the abilities and it'd be pretty neat to see the different ways they'd be used in casual/comp gameplay. :smile:

    what if damaging projectiles did charge the ability. mage and archer come to mind.

    im wondering if u could activate the ability by rightclicking the sword. this means blocking against assa uses the ability, if u had it ready. could consider this. that it has a weakness like that maybe. after all, if u dont consider this then give engie a ****ing sword.

    looks pretty nice against ninjas. cuz hitting u charges it and u can get it healed off by medic before the big battle around the flagroom.

    kb should be in the range of 4 blocks id say, just outside of generally accepted reach
