For context, this is being carried over from discussions on the CTF Discord (#complains 11/6/2020).

    What's The Problem?
Communication. In the last few months, there has been a notable spike in discussions regarding suggestions & complaints for CTF, both casual & competitive. Staff have also been doing a wonderful job of staying current with this information and applying it to their plans for changing the way the game works - but this is where the issue arises. Although we are getting changes, we get relatively no solid feedback from the team themselves about what's happening in between the start and finish. You'll see the occasional JMOD/MOD comment on a thread here once in a while, or one of them popping up in the Discord to chip in briefly, but we rarely ever get dedicated points where the team in general tells us what they think. As a result, the outcome of weeks worth of talk is summarized into a single @everyone bearing results that we're never able to fully predict.

How & Why Should This Change?
It should be expected for the team to keep certain things under wraps, but too much secrecy can be harmful in a number of ways. Some form of an official update from a MOD or SMOD regarding current changes would not only allow us to give more valuable input from that point on, but also allow us to trust that the work is being done, seeing as some people tend to jump to conclusions and think that the team is waiting until the last moment to rush to a decision. It's understandable that transparency can only go so far, but even a limited amount would make for far more productive and accurate work in changing CTF.

I missed this thread, and it's pretty ironic that this thread has no responses from staff. I might as well be the first.

I agree with this. Posting more on threads and interacting with the community is definitely something I'm working on improving on as I become more active again, and I don't think I'm the only staff member who needs to improve in this aspect. There needs to be an actual solution though rather than relying on staff to start responding to threads more.

Something that I've noticed over the years is ideas pretty much never get an "official" response. I could respond with my thoughts on every idea posted on the forums but it'd be just that: my thoughts. It doesn't represent what the staff team actually thinks as a whole; especially in my case, as my opinion on what should change on CTF largely differs from the rest of the staff team.

To fix this, I think there should be a requirement for all ideas posted on the forums to receive an official response from the staff team. Every idea should be discussed in a meeting so we can formulate a response that accurately describes what the staff team is thinking. This isn't just something that CTF needs, but every gamemode.

    In short:
    • Every idea posted on the forums gets discussed in a meeting by staff (this could be a separate staff meeting if it'd take too much time in the regular meetings).
    • There'd be an "official" response from an official forum account (similar to this), so players know exactly what staff think.
    • Staff should still be encouraged to respond to forum threads.

This isn't a perfect fix, but it'd be a solid step forward IMO and we can work on things from there.

We've recently started doing this - what do you think about it?

Glad to see it actually happening. I think it needs a little time to gain momentum, but the benefits should start presenting themselves very quickly.

Yes. Only thing I'll add is that majorities should be limited, and significant enough rebuttal parties should be represented together if they do appear (i.e. Someone suggests x change to Dwarf, 60% advocate 40% don't - have both parties insert an official response instead of just the advocates).
