    A while back the mods hinted at Scout would be the next class added someday and it would be free. Because of the 1.9 update I decided to create a simple concept that will include a 1.9 feature that I think will be valuable.

    This scout class is aimed at versatility, it has the ability to recover but also can excel at other roles well.

    Stone Sword (5 Damage)
    Speed Mode/Attack Mode (Green/Pink Dye)

    • This is the main ability that scout has. Scout has two "Modes" that are easy to comprehend and are made simplistic for people to understand. Speed Mode grants the player Speed I for extra mobility while Attack Mode grants the Stone Sword Sharpness II (7.5 Attack Damage). When switching, there is a 3 second wait until you can switch modes again
    • Why? This allows the Scout Class to have both high mobility and high damage that a recovery class needs while at the same time balancing the classes ability to warrant a rather high defense.
    Shine Dust (Glowstone)
    • This is a speculated ability that is only possible in 1.9 but seemed like a good concept to add to a class. There is going to be a Glowing Effect added to Minecraft that can be seen through blocks and support different colours. The Shine dust would allow the Scout to see All Red players and all Blue players in their corresponding colour. The enemy flag carrier would be in yellow and the ally flag carrier would be in pink(aka light_purple) or aqua depending on the team.

    • Why? Its an unnecessary add on that gives the scout the ability to plan out their attacks as well as assist in recovery to a much higher degree.
    3 Steak (Not depicted)

    This class is slightly stronger than heavies sword, slower than Ninja, weaker than Ninja and Chemist, and has slightly more armour than Chemist. I think the balance between the classes has been rather preserved with this v2 of Scout

    I'd say this is it. While the armour should be lowered a bit (maybe iron leggings and chain chestplate) I love it. The ability of changing to quite tank to speedy I could also people playing offence with this using the extra sharp to kill Def and steal then speed to run away u got my +1

    While I like the concept of this class playing a role in free recovery I think that role is too narrow since I can't see it doing a whole lot that Ninja and Assassin do not already do. I think that this rework should not be so focused on that particular area.

    Nevertheless, my main problem with this stems from the mobility and damage output this Scout class offers.

    Sharpness I on an Iron Sword does 4 hearts of damage. Sharpness II does 4.5 hearts of damage. A Golden Sword with Sharpness IV deals 4.5 hearts of damage.

    In your proposal, Scout can basically do the same damage as Ninja then, at a consistent rate.

    Furthermore, if the Scout were to crit it could do up to 6 hearts of damage with Sharpness I and 6.5 hearts of damage with Sharpness II.

    Then this scout can race around the map with Speed I.

    The big problem with all this is you have effectively created a Ninja that can run around with Speed I for the whole game if Scout were to stay in Speed Mode, with a sword that is only 0.5 hearts less powerful than Ninja's. Plus that Ninja happens to have 6.5/10 Armor (even more than Medic) and would be a free class.

    You claim that the 3 second 'wait' between modes balances things out but that is very untrue. In either mode Scout is more powerful and a short wait does not alter that fact. In Attack Mode it's as strong as Ninja in terms of damage and in Speed Mode its probably even stronger when you account for increased mobility (which makes it easier to crit) and the already strong damage output. There is nothing balanced about an armored Ninja, which has been made clear by Chemist, and I see no reason why another one should be added to the game, especially a free one.

    I created this class ignoring Ninjas recent nerf because it's a quick fix to an issue that Nom will ultimately have to fix later. I expect Ninja to be restored back to sharpness VI once he figures the issue but if not I would expect this sword to be brought down accordingly.

    Yeah but that doesn't change the fact that this class would be able to have high mobility and pretty good damage for an unlimited period of time in Speed Mode. When Ninja gets buffed again, this class would still be nearly if not as strong as Ninja because of its armor and health pool which compensate for its lower mobility and damage by comparison between the two classes.

    Ninja also has invisibility and blindness to work along with its damage and speed. If Speed+ Sharpness is too much it could easily be a vanilla Iron Sword that gains Sharpness II in Attack Mode instead.

    You have a good point about invisibility and blindness but like I said Scout has the armor and the health so it more or less evens out between the two.

    On one hand I like the idea of removing the sharpness I with the sword and just changing it to a vanilla sword. On the other hand, though, that still does not fix the problem of this class acting like an armored Ninja. While the 3 second wait would actually matter in that instance it would still allow Scout a ton of mobility in one mode and a lot of damage in the other. The only thing that would separate it from acting similar to an armored Ninja is the wait period.

    What I did like about this rework was the glow-stone ability, I thought that was pretty cool and does add something to the game. However my issue with it is that it decreases the importance of classes like Ninja and Assassin by giving a free class an enormously useful and powerful ability for recovery. The reason why people buy VIP classes is so that they can do things that free classes cannot do, however when you make a free class that has power and mobility near or at Ninja's level it has a negative effect on the game because it depletes the importance of Ninja. Sure Ninja has lots of other cool abilities but Scout has mobility and equal or nearly equal damage to Ninja (regardless of Ninja getting buffed) and is certainly harder to kill than Ninja because of its armor and health pool.

    I can see this Scout being enormously popular but as a free class it would further imbalance the game more than anything else.

    Tbh, the concept is good, its just the numbers that need tweaking. But the overall idea of 2 modes is simple and diverse, great for a free class.

    I'll work on tweaking the numbers. I'm fine with Scout being on par with Ninja because Premiums aren't supposed to be naturally better.

    Since the snapshot came out I decided to post a picture of what this glowing effect would entail:

    Yeah, that definitely looks better. But just to clarify a little I didn't mean that premium classes are supposed to be better but rather that they are supposed to fulfill roles in the game/do things that free classes cannot do.

    I saw that effect in the screenshot and I do like how that's integrated into this class.

    Anyway you got my +1 on this now :wink:
