Maybe it could go with hg too where there were only a few kits and you could have them all? Maybe it could be a random day of the month.

 

I like the idea but I think there should be a poll for the old maps the players want there to be in the rotation so that way everyone doesn't end up playing a bunch of terrible maps.

 

Make it on Friday and the server that hosts it doesn't have noobday on it.
Now old timers are double pleased!

 

I'm against this. All servers should have free day on Fridays and old maps on Thursdays.

 

This idea has been suggested by me and @SoCool (think he did) but I called Old Map Monday. This has been said other times as well. Still want it though

 

'Throwback Thursday' is for old timers. I doubt new people would understand whatever significance the maps have to the old map.
Also, it would actually give a chance for old timers to actually ENJOY ctf on Friday, and actually maybe make playing on Friday a worthwhile thing!

 

This was discussed, along with mods just doing old maps at random times whenever an opportunity arises. The issue with a day dedicated to it is that every time a server ends a mod must be on to manually set the next maps, and there aren't always mods on. Also, timezones would be an issue, and some would of course miss out. Would it be easier to have old map events at random times?

Edit: if there was a day for old maps, I doubt it'd be Friday. With Freeday, you really don't want too much happening on one day

 

'Freeday' is practically devoid of regulars except the few that stick it out.
Now that I think about it, no wonder why it was coined 'noob day'.

 

Ok. What about one day every month? We'd have it on the same schedule as free day so nobody would miss out.

 

Get rid of noob day on the subserver it plays on and for once you have my support.

 

Old Maps are gone for a reason (besides Pagodas because people have bad taste). If there was a day every week dedicated to old maps the nostalgia goggles would wear off and people would realize why they were removed.

 

Most of them. Pagodas and starlight might be ok though. And we still have some old maps that are quite cruddy. Ship battle? Opposites collide? And we had Halo for the longest time.

@MineBrick12 im not going to discuss freeday with you. It's already been proven that it works and generates revenue as well as keeping the servers less pay-to-win

How do you know that Noob day even has much of an impact on the sale of classes. Give me hard numbers, please.

That's like saying, 'We just cleaned the White House, but we need to clean it again because there will be less dirt!

 

I don't understand why you have to so aggressively force your opinion on others.
I don't have hard numbers. What I do have is a collection of players that now have many premium kits that were helped by free day. they probably wouldn't have purchased premium kits had they not been able to try them out. And I don't see it as annoying, for the most part. When people abuse broken classes en masse, like having 5 pyros and 5 dwarves on defense and having a meadow of engineers, then that's annoying. But that's entirely possible without it being Friday. I've seen it done on sundays. And I don't understand your pay-to-win analogy. It makes the severs fairer because people who can't afford premium classes get to use them once in a while.

Anyways, as to why the two shouldn't be on the same day:
We need free day to reach the maximum number of CTF players. We would want the same for old map day.

 

I doubt old map day would lure as much as noob day.
You see, tons of noobs are on when it is noob day because they have the chance to be powerful and annoying. But they won't understand anything special with a different map then usual.

 

It's entirely possible that new players would tire of our old boring rotation pretty darn quickly. I mean, I've seen 3/4 of the servers playing castle cavern at one point while the 4th played standoff, only for one server to end castle cavern and switch to standoff.

 

That example is getting bored with the current map. That doesn't tell if they're bored of the rotation.
