The hate on mages needs to stop. Period. Every game I have played as mage, I have faced at least some hate. Most of the time, I just shrug it off. But now I feel like I need to say something. So, I have compiled the biggest arguments against mages and put them in a single post. Enjoy

    "The mage is too op."
You probably knew this would be first on the list. And honestly, this is what most people say about mages. The mage is OP, yes, but only if you use it correctly. Same with chemist, engineer, archer, and more. Any class is deadly if you know how to fight as them. However, any class is useless if you also know how to fight against them. If you are fighting a range class, keep moving around them until you can get up close. If you are fighting an assassin, you should block. It nullifies the assassinate ability. Therefore, any class is deadly, but every class is vunerable.

    "The mage isn't balanced."
Yes it is. If the mage wasn't balanced, then the class would either be removed or nerfed. Remember how the pyro was a couple of years ago? The arrows would set fire regardless of range. Now, the pyro has to utilize the flint and steel or shoot from a long range. The same could have happened to the mage. Yes, they are powerful at offense, but have terrible defense. They don't even have a full set of leather armor!

"Mage is too easy to get good with."
I agree that the mage is easy to learn. However, it isn't easy to master. You need to learn how each spell works, the best time to use them, and not to spam the damage spell. Spamming the damage spell only does two things: Make your opponents mad at you and bring an even worse reputation to the mages. Spamming damage isn't effective. However, a sequence of damage, freeze, lightning, heal, fire, repeat does well.

    "Mages are impossible to kill."
Like I said earier, every class is vulnerable to another. Chemists are vulnerable to archers, archers are vulnerable to ninjas, ninjas are vulnerable to mages, and mages are vulnerable to pyros, skilled assassins (they can't block the assassinate), skilled ninjas, and archers that are skilled snipers. You just have to learn what can take down each class, utilize that ability, and use it against them. A mage's weakness is close-range. They can't freeze or they will suffocate, they can't heal without healing their opponent, and they don't have any specific melee attack. As I said before, mages are balanced. If they weren't, they would be either nerfed or removed.

Thank you for your time, and maybe you will think twice next time after you get killed by a mage.
    Thank you,
    BlueFalcon55

Sorry to break this to you m8 but mage sucks

You're all easy if someone really tries to kill you, but usually you're just not very important because hey why would mages actually be productive and play a game of capture the flag instead of a game of randomkilling?

Sadly, in midfield, you are great at pissing people off. Not much skill required there, no, I can do that too with mage, but yeah it's pretty effective.

No one's jealous of your skill, don't worry ^.^ there are like three mages out there that are actually good, participate in the game and I respect. You're by far not one of them, and mage in general isn't something I can take very seriously for stated reasons.

Who cares what everybody else thinks? I know you want the hate to stop, it's not going to. Think about it this way: if you're pissing the other team off, you're doing something right.

The mage is a good class when you are trying to defend people. Its the mages that play midfield/offense that give them a name as "The cheapest class out there." I believe the whole reason the mage was given the freeze spell was to stop people with the flag. And yes, I agree, mage is cheap when you are playing midfield. And I get where everyone is coming from, especially the part as "Fun to play as, not to play against." The damage spell keeps enemies at bay really well, but it is often laggy. The only way to get good with mage is to practice. Contrary to what you may think, the mage is hard to master. Easy to learn how to utilize each spell, yes, but difficult to master them. Hence why I play mage most of the time. To practice. At the moment, the only way to practice with a class is to use it on the battlefield.

People will hate on every class, for literally any reason they can think of. Don't pay mind to it, as long as you do indeed play honorably and are actually helping your team, you're good in my book.

    1. Please remind me how a good mage is in any way vulnerable.

    2. The argument that Brawl keeps classes in the game because they're balanced simply isn't true. Have you seen dwarf? Assassin?

    3. I would disagree, but that's simply a matter of opinion.

    4. I agree, a mage's weakness is close range attacks. However, you don't get there often at all. The only class I would consider a counter to mage is assassin, and getting close to a mage is a pain because they have so many tools to keep you at range. And once again, saying that Brawl hasn't taken any action means the class is balanced is not true.

Mage is one of those classes that leaves me with no steak when I'm trying to go cap. Like a moving turret. Moving turrets are annoying. Mage is annoying.

Mage could be brought down at close range, but most will lightning you away and heal before you can pick them off.... thats the most aggravating part of mage (Other than the mages that chase you down to your own spawn... )

Though it does serve purpose in matches.... It's good for crowd control! :stuck_out_tongue: @YourAverageRandy

Mage is hard to kill (usually) even if you killed them your health is pretty low at the end.
Also doggies, mage has knockback with the damage spell and they can run away and heal themselves. There is weakness but it's not really a weakness.

    They'll chase you forever
They'll chase and kill the first player they see.

I use Mage a lot in matches to kill any Ninjas that come to our flag room to steal. It's very useful when used the right way.

Let me just ask you to do something next time you play. Play a class like heavy. Or medic. Or soldier. Or something like chemist. Or any other class. Kind of mess around with all the classes. And see how easy it is to kill a semi-decent mage such as myself or someone like @Sir_Inge (hu3 no offense). Chances are you won't kill them very often. Because with mage, you really don't have to "master" it for it to be extremely annoying.

To kill mage, you have to first get in close. To get in close, you have to get past their spamming damage spell that has a range of 15 blocks and does like. . . what, 6 hearts to a ninja? Something like that. You ALSO have to avoid all of the fire spells that will suck up your health. THEN you have to avoid the freeze spell which will give them time to recuperate, get back out of range, and then barrage you with spells from 10-20 blocks away. And IF you somehow get through aaalllll of that and manage to get within 5 blocks (standard sword hit radius), you'll probably just get lightninged back out of hitting range while they use their heal spell and you've basically lost all of your health, and you have to start all over again.

On top of all that, killing things from a distance is all mage is really good for. Sure, you can recover okay with it, but it isn't very reliable. If you ever participate in an official CTF match, you'll find that all anyone ever uses mage for is to harass people and maybe kill archers. Because no offense to all the mage mains out there, that's all it's good and reliable for.

Think about things from other people's point of views before you tell them to stop hating.

Yes hello you have awoken the sleeping beast. What may I spell spam today?

In all seriousness, Mage has a somewhat high learning curve. I though that the range need balanced this well. I'd like to see a larger rework, but the community is divided :frowning:

You can learn how each spell works by using each of them once. That takes 5 clicks of the right mouse button.

Why would I not spam the damage spell? It keeps enemies at bay, deals high damage and leaves me untouchable. It's extremely effective.

And if using a class ability as intended (eg. right-clicking it to shoot a projectile at enemies) is maddening and brings bad reputation, the class isn't balanced. If the use of two spells (damage and heal) is enough to kill the majority of enemies, how is there a "high learning curve"?

There are no learning curves and no "skill" involved in a game where your chances against enemies is decided by the number displayed when you type /ping, and the number displayed when they type /ping.
