Dogwelder was the most useful hero in Section 8. Unless you count Bueno Excellente.

Anyways, trying to major in electrical engineering, but that might be a problem, because I work at an average motivation of 53SP (sloth power). First year definitely didn't work out, so yeah...

We'll see how this plays out!

Im turning 18 in November, yet currently a junior. It's coming around to that time when the college application process is heating up and everyone starts stressing over their resumes, trying to make it look as good as possible with whatever they've got. Good times no

I don't have my heart set on anything just yet, but currently I want to go into mechanical engineering at VT. Fingers crossed that it works out.

Any advice y'all can give on the application process or just college in general? Maybe some things that were unexpected along the way? It may be useful for us smaller people.

University advice: show up to class and do your homework.

Sounds easy, but that's where 90% of people who struggle in school fail.

Been there. It's easy to get distracted in college and get caught up in socializing or too much work or other things that mess up priorities.

I don't have a major but I plan to be working as a math tutor (for everything from pre-Algebra to Differential Equations) over the summer and probably for the next year or two at my college's tutoring center.

It even pays a few dollars over minimum wage, which is just good enough to pay for all my delicious Subway meals :grinning:

@Comm During the application process I would strongly recommend to do it earlier to get it over with. After you do that, its a smooth transition. Another thing, as Xelasi stated, do your homework on time or best, right when you get the assignment. Procrastinating in college is NOT as easy it is in highschool. Don't learn the hard way please.

I plan to get most of it done over the summer at this program that my school offers because that doesn't sound like something I want to deal with during the normal school year lol. I'm sensing that the overall theme here is 'time management' xD

The application process is hell. Just breathe and don't stress to much over it. Apply early for the schools you really want to get into and stay on top of all deadlines. Stay focused on what's important to you and know you are more than just your ACT and SAT scores. Apply to as many colleges as you feel necessary and have a reach school. Don't overwhelm yourself

As far as college experience, that varies person to person and wether or not you live on or off campus. For me college has been stressful but also very eye opening. If you have any questions feel free to ask!

Edit: there is tons of free money out there! You just have to look/apply for it!

Yes. To me thats the best advice out there that you should implement. Also, when doing any assignment take it one step at a time. Setting small goals in between instead of only focusing on the big picture will be a lot less stressful.

I'm majoring in CS and am part of a research team working on machine learning/neural network stuff. I have no idea what I want to do with my life after I graduate. 0_0

I 100% agree with everything else that has been said about this topic. In addition, during the first week or two of classes, take some time to go to your instructor's office hours and introduce yourself. They absolutely love it when students talk to them, and if you make a good impression on them throughout the quarter/semester, they'll be more willing to bump your grade that extra bit if you're close to a higher grade.
