Welcome back to yet another weekly edition of MSW! With up and coming exams, we may not be posting next week! Instead, we will be offering mostly analytical posts about the tournament, map scores, and anything we find valid. Not much will change for now besides the overall quality and the target base of future editions, for the time being. So without further, sit back, relax, and enjoy!

Match of the Week #7 - Defiance vs Annihilation

    Defiance vs Annihilation by @_SyntheticSkillz

This bout was between 2 teams who were previously deemed inactive until recently. With Anni having a recent boost in activity due to some newer additions and good leadership. Recently Anni has been having many rosters and looked to be the slight favourite. While the new defiance many people were unsure of. This Defy team looked a lot different. Lead by Scape and Prank, it should be noted the team that had finished 3rd in the CTF tourney and seemed had declined in activity since then. But a huge wave of recruits (many of which had no team experience) boosted their activity. Looking at the rosters it looked to be a good match but Anni seemed to have the advantage PvP- wise and just the fact they had a core group with good chemistry.

Going into map 1: Anni pick was Airlock rework. Only 1 minute in Elmo quickly stole as soldier. She was basically able to get out and then go through the middle with solid support. 1-0 a little more than 1 minute in. Defy did not look that bad it was just a good steal. Some decent steal attempts were made and eventually Scape stole as chemist and with terrific support was able to get out and go down the middle to make it 1-1 with about 16 left. Seconds later a crazy pyro steal by Codebastian almost led to cap #2 for anni but he was headshotted seconds away from capping. Miskey picked it up but xAustinq had just enough time to steal and get out as medic. Scape recoved and and then elmo stole. Then anni recovered and Elmo was out clear for a cap. 2-1 Anni. At about 14 minutes Z_Hobo was able to get out as soldier and tie it up at 2-2. Immediately Scape and Miskey both stole but a great Spexon_01 pyro recovery halted Anni. Another Elmo steal turned the match into a stalemate with about 12 to go. Then two recoveries almost at the exact same time by Z-Hobo (soldier) on Elmo with some terrific PvP action by Z, and then a johnbd recov on Scape. Z_Hobo then stole and got out and after a series of steals by Anni, elmo was able to get out. After minutes of intense recovery attempts, and flag carrier headshots, Defy was able to draw elmo out and get her away from the medic and Prank was able to recover. Z_Hobo capped 3-2 Defiance. Really good game.

Now going into Defiance map pick: Opposites Collide V. After seeing how well Defy played they looked to be favoured to win here. A minute in both defences looked to be solid. Also to be noted in Defiances earlier match vs ADV they tended to go all out to recover at times. But with the great Pyroing by Spexon on this map it still seemed to look like Defiance would be fine. At about 17:30 Duke was able to get out as medic above and use the quick route using the sponge to get to the flag and cap after some attempts to get out by Anni but were dealt with exceptionally well. 1-0 Defy. Right after that xAustinq stole as heavy and was almost untouched untill being caught up in a mosh in the middle before the sponge but he was able to evade the enemy for the most part and got in for the 2-0 cap. Austin stole again minute or two later and again went up top, with great support it was 3-0. Defiance with the upset win. Great defence led by pyro Spexon_01. He seemed to be relatively unknown but he sure is known now. He and Defy played great against an Annihilation team favoured to win their group on the CST Tourney. Both teams will also fight again in the tourney. Great game.

Note by gamren- The reasoning that this match is MotW is due to Defiance taking down a considered top team. It is a big step for Defiance, and we will see in the future if they can keep this momentum up in the tournament, or if the veteran teams can take down the newly fused blood.

Rising Above Expecations (Defy vs ADV) by @Rezolute

In the past few weeks we have been granted the honor of experiencing some very good matches between some very competitive teams. ADV, The Adventurers, a very tough team to beat faced a big challenge VS Defiance. They have players that are very skilled at the game, some of those players involve Wulfi, Gukada, Crazy_Ctf, Hallopiu. In the recent weeks, we have seen ADV become a more persistent team, better communicated, and overall just a better team. Today they had a hard match up against probably one of the toughest teams to beat, Defiance. A month and a half ago, we all knew Defiance was losing itself due to inactivity, but then Scape @Jul13n did something that probably saved the team. He decided to pick up @Prank as a rep, to help him guide his team to more victories and challenges. Ever since that change, Prank has been able to not just recruit more people, but make the team more active overall. That was an unexpected turn of events. Ever since he started recruiting people, the team became way better. He was able to get good pick ups like Irol, Spexon, and Titanium. Even though some of these players are new, their communication skills are off the charts. They have such good teamwork, and that’s what makes the difference between old Defy and the new revamped one. Defiance is a hot team right now, a team that is being mentioned a lot. They were able to pull off a 2-1, 3-2 against ADV on Opposites Collide V (Yes, both maps were OC V). ADV’s defence was very tough, they had an outstanding roaming defense that was lead by Wulfi as heavy, and a very skilled pyro.

Game 1: The game started off with an unexpected event with Defiance taking over 1-0 in the first few minutes with a cap from Z_Hobo. At 19:05 he got a clean steal, he had some support by ninjas, then took the sponge on top of Opposites and met up with a medic to be able to get the cap. While Defiance tried attempting to cap again, ADV adjusted to a roaming defense that was able to stop Defiance’s defense for a while. It was easy to note that ADV’s defense was way more positioned than Defiance’s. At 14:40 Z_Hobo was able to get another steal, with support from Jul13n was able to get to the flag, but while at it Crazy_CTF was able to steal right under Defiance’s nose. Gukada was able to recover on Z_Hobo, and ADV got the cap to make it 1-1. Hallopiu was able to get a nice steal but was assassinated by Prank when he got to the top. A very big issue that was noticed about both teams was that they left the flagroom wide open various times, while attempting to recover on the flag carriers. This was a very big issue because this led to some steals that had much potential but the defense’s were able to scramble back and get the recovery. Just when this map looked like it was going to be a tie, Titanium took advantage of ADV’s problem of leaving no one in the flagroom and got the steal. He went underground and was able to get past their recovery. Which led to a 2-1 after finding the medic in his path to the flag. ADV fought strong to try to get the 2-2 but Defiance’s defense was able to hold up thanks to @Spexon_01 .

Game 2: The game took a slight turn in the second map in ADV’s favor, they were able to get a quick steal by Lumpi. But, Prank was able to turn around and help the defense by holding up Lumpi as medic. That seriously saved Defiance a cap, good job by Prank for listening to his team. Afterwards, Z_Hobo was able to get a steal. Then he got the medic heal, but was quickly webbed when he was trying to reach the middle of the map on top of Opposites that led to a lot of damage done to him by ADV’s heavies. Afterwards, he decided not to take the sponge, while ADV’s recover squad did, they landed right on top of him and were able to get a quick recover. Then, Hallopiu was able to steal as heavy, and was able to get the medic heal. This led to an ADV cap making it 1-0. Defiance needed to respond to that fast cap so, Titanium took advantage of ADV’s weakness again and was able to steal again after Prank got killed halfway through the map on top of Opposites. Then, ADV attempted twice to try to steal the flag, but both were recovered by Defiance’s defense. A quick response by ADV, they mirrored what Defiance did since Defiance left the flagroom wide open, and was able to get a clean cap making it 2-1. The teams were stalled out for a pretty large portion of the match, but after 10 minutes, Defiance was able to get a break through. Jul13n was able to steal as chemist and get through the top of the map pretty quick, getting that cap made it 2-2. ADV made a big mistake in desperation. They sent 5 people on offense to try to steal, and were quickly shut down by the strong Defiance defense. While they attempted that, Jul13n was able to get a clean scoop of the flag with just one minute left in the match. He quickly managed to get through the top, and get the cap ending the map at 3-2.

Both teams fought a good match, but it was clear that Defiance had the upper hand in this match. Player of the Game was proudly awarded to @Jul13n for being able to step up when his team needed him most. It brings me joy to say that Defiance is climbing the scale, and overall is becoming a great team. (Inb4 TT vs Defy ;] or DF vs Defy *wink* @Prank )

Annihilation vs The Crusaders by gamren

After an unexpected performance against Defiance, many kept their eyes open on this match to see the results. After being considered upset by Defiance to some, Annihilation was back in business to redeem themselves against TC, who has been able to gain not only additional member, but have been explosive in matches in many teams.

Occurring on December 10th,and being a 8v8, it was a pretty standard match rule-wise (with a one ninja cap rule to pop out), with the maps being Airlock Rework and Blackout (skyworlds agreed). We can basically figure out who picked what. Immediately hopping into the match, Annihilation rushed a capture before the three minute mark even hit, and gained another quick steal shortly afterwards. TC quickly replied with a steal, initiating a stalemate. After many gruesome and close recovery attempts from both sides, Anni pulled through and was able to pull off a recovery, setting their map pick 2-0 in their favor. Quite to everyone’s surprise, TC immediately came back with increased offense teamwork and defensive strength, tying up Anni’s pocket pick of Airlock (rework) 2-2. In some eyes this looked like a major breaking point for TC, being able to lock down Annihilation on their own map. With Blackout being next, many questioned how Anni would be able to come back.

TC did what TC does best on blackout, and got a swift and clean soldier capture starting right into the map. Answering back, Anni gained a recovery during a stalemate, tying up the map 1-1. Shortly after, yet another stalemate took place. Looking dominant, TC was able to recover, and then cap once again, gaining a strong 3-1 lead on the second map. TC then went to get yet a 4th capture after another stalemate, with the odds looking bad towards Anni’s favor. Analyzing the situation, @Miskey, backed by Annihilations recovery, was able to gain 2 more captures for his team, with the map ending 4-3 in Anni’s favor. With teamwork and coordination back online, Anni went onto the third map, showing a dominating performance of 3-0 against TC on skyworlds. Definitely an impressive game and performance by both teams, and I am excited to see how these teams do in the upcoming tournament.

Overall match score 2-2 Tie, 4-3 TC, 3-0 Anni.

Player of the game: @Miskey . Miskey gained all 8 captures for his team during this match. Nice job by him.

Bonus Article- Interview Fun FT gamren and @patriq

Background- I (gam) was planning on getting a pre match interview for TC vs Anni. Kev completely forgot about the match, so that ruled him out, and I saw Patriq and thought it would be a great idea.

G- Ah yes hello there Mr.Pat

    P- yes gamyron

G- To start us off, what motivated you to join The Crusaders? With that in mind, how do you feel so far in TC?

P- wait im getting interviewed? I did not know

    G-oh

    Surprise 12 am interview!

    P- okedoke

I originally joined TC because I was drawn by most of my closer friends, Ash, Maddie, Bloom, Lara, etc. I had left my previous team (Genetic) because though they were a team I had hoped to join for a long time, they had been fairly inactive during the period I was in it. All around I am in here mainly because of my friends.

G- Just before I continue the next question, hopefully I didn't **** up and incorrectly assume you are playing in the TC vs Anni match tomorrow

Are you actually in/subbing for that one

P- I am out for california this weekend :stuck_out_tongue:

    G- ****

Awesome as usual . I have a suggestion though, perhaps you could request for a folder named "MSW" to be created under "Teams" (on the forums). The MSW group is pretty cool, and I believe by this point in time, it deserves its own section on the forums.
