Back in Business - BK vs Defy [MSW #11]

Welcome back to yet another edition of MSW. This week we will be catching up on some old matches, as seen by the title, and talking about recent matches, and even the upcoming tournament. With that said, let's hop right into it.

Introductory Note

With the tourney being upon us, MSW will be focusing most of our resources to covering it. Most, if not all, matches will still be streamed and recorded, but we cannot guarantee things like articles and predictions.

The Prophecy​

We here at MSW like to pretend to be professionals, and what would fake professionals be without match predictions. Our analysts are locked in a basement and forced to calculate match results the best of the best, and try to offer predictions based off of rosters, map possibilities, recent matches, and more. Here are the predictions for next week!

Gamren’s predictions- With the first pick being metro, I honestly think BK will get a swift 3-0 on this map, unless TC focuses mostly on defense. Due to Metro being so enclosed and filled with choke points, it gives BK a prime opportunity to use their PvP advantage that they have over most teams, one of those considered TC. We’ve seen BK in action on this map, and have been able to win on it even when 2 members down. Very impressive.

Now, blackout is a whole different monster. TC has sooo much experience on this map, and their offense can get by practically every team. If aided by the right defensive roster, I honestly think TC has a great shot to win on here. I predict a 3-1 win for TC. The reasoning behind not a 5 cap map is since both teams are accustomed to being able to steal and get into standoffs. A loss on blackout would probably set back the minds of BK on skyworlds, and would be a great moral victory for TC. If TC gained a win on blackout, then I would guess for a tie on Skyworlds,or a one cap lead for either team.

I wish good luck to someone trying to predict the next maps, so me, being lazy and tired, predict an overall BK win.


Unifier’s predictions- first of all, I tried to not make my opinion on this biased but if it is, take into account that I am but a Burger King jester.

Recently BK has picked a new map as home camp and I believe that it will not do TC well. BK has the pvp advantage and has tested their effectiveness on it against TNSE, which ended in a 3-0 win for BK. So I believe BK will take a win here in a 3-0 even though TC has recruited some ex-Genetic (RIP) members lately.

Blackout is a different story, TC has a lot of experience on this map and their soldier offense will cause lethal damage to BK’s defense. On the other side I think BK’s pingers will deal massive damage too, my prediction is a close win for BK with a lot of stalemates.

Eventually it will come to Skyworlds, on which BK seems to play very well. However it is another soldier map and kevshadowslayer will deal loads of damage to the offense as archer I believe BK will end the match here with a long game but 2-0 win.

Overall prediction: tense games with loads of interesting moments for strategies, offense, recov and defense, and a very happy winner. I believe we could say that this is the highlight of the 2nd team pool. Good luck TC!

Please do not ask MSW members for permission to spectate matches. We cannot speak for other reps and their wishes, so please ask both reps BEFORE matches. Referee consent will also be in play at all times if they wish. MSW can issue guest passes to those that wish to help out with things like commentating and related, but these passes are highly limited and will only be handed out to those that will add on to the quality of content covered by MSW. Passes are affected by the blacklist, referee preference, and refs/teams consent.

Team leaders/reps, you can always limit the amount of spectators that are in your matches if you wish. If you are bothered by the amount of spectators coming into your matches, then please feel free to pm your match referee and any concerns to gamren or MSW leaders/representatives. All we ask is that you may be thoughtful and fair if you do request to limit spectator numbers accordingly. Your match referee can also control the amount of spectators allowed.

Match of the Week #8 - BK vs Defy
0-0, 3-1 Defy, 3-0 Defy, Defiance win 6-1.​

BK vs Defiance by @TTD3 ​

Map 1 (Skyworlds 1)

With both archers trying to decimate as much of the other team’s offense while still keeping each other rather busy, Skyworlds as the first map started off quite fast with both teams stealing the flag and losing it within the first minute of playtime not even having past.

Only shortly after, a greatly coordinated offense of BK took place and Coca got a soldier steal which looked rather promising as almost the whole def got killed by BK’s heavy and ningeek as a medic was right behind him. But just as he got out of the flagroom, he got headshotted, but as ningeek was right behind him, he was able to pick it up easily. He managed to keep away many enemies from damaging but finally was killed by Juli3n. Although defy had many steals in the next few minutes, the offense didn’t really look fully coordinated. Sometimes even going in one after one. Both teams’ steals in the first 10 minutes didn’t take them a long way. Either assassinated, pushed into void or killed without a medic within probably always less than 30 blocks away from the flagpost. It isn’t until Z_Hobo makes it out as a heavy and going underground that anything spectacular happens. Despite Hobo being healed, almost everyone of BK seems to be on recovery and forces Hobo to avoid the bridge and take the riskier route. Just now, enough support from Defy kicks in, but there are still enough BK players to knock Hobo into the void. The game goes into these ‘short steals’ again, until BK comes in, Kriz gets a steal which doesn’t take him far away but gives Coca the opportunity to steal the flag as a soldier very easily since Defy’s defense only went after Kriz. It looks like a really great opportunity for BK to cap, as Coca got healed by a medic multiple times on his way there, the support seems to be sufficient and well coordinated. Although Coca almost falls into the void twice due to the knockback, it seems like he’ll get the cap. But Hobo steals only a few seconds before Coca would’ve been able to cap it. Coca gets headshot and Misplacement picks it up. The same happens on Defy’s side with Juli3n picking it up as a soldier and giving it back again. The game goes into a stalemate in which both teams try their hardest to recov with BK headshotting the flagcarrier twice(?)and Defy almost killing Misplacement with a few soldiers and a pyro.

The first map ends with a tie.


Map 2 (Opposites Collide V)
This game starts of with a pretty quick heavy cap by BK. It seems as if nothing really interfered that much as the support was always there and the medic never died. Then there’s these ‘short steals’ again and the same thing as on the first map happens: Defy leaves the flagroom empty to get a quick recovery and coca is able to get out and underground as a chemist again. He has crossed half of the map already as Defy manages to get quite a clean steal as well, getting upstairs and across the map without really someone interfering. Prank somehow manages to recover and Defy is able to get their first cap in this match as well.

Besides some steals nothing really happens until Juli3n somehow makes his way out as a medic, leaving BK’s recovery far behind him and getting the cap. BK manages to get a good coordinated offense with a medic and two heavies going in but the frenzy gets both the heavies. As another offense by Defy comes in, this time Defy is able to profit a bit of BK’s defense running in the other direction. Juli3n manages to get out as a medic while throwing many webs. Although he gets ‘iced’ by BK’s mage a couple of times on his way and has not really that much support apart from a ninja and a heavy later on, he’s able to manage his steaks very well and getting the final cap on this map for Defy.


Map 3 (Slate)
With the first map being a tie and the second map Defy leading by 2 caps, BK needs to get at least 2 caps more than Defy to make this even. BK takes quite an interesting approach here. All of BK goes on offense, only leaving an archer on def. Defy’s 4-player offense obviously has no problems getting the flag. BK’s offense obvioulsy neither, but some BK players still died to Defy’s def while Coca got out. It’s difficult to say how this would’ve worked out if some BK players supported coca instead of going for the recov. So although they had quite a lot of offense, the support for coca is lacking and Defy gets the recov and the cap. A win by BK isn’t possible anymore. After this first cap, BK apparently decides that a def of a heavy and a chemist should be enough against a medic, chemist and heavy offense. Defy gets the cap again and BK know it’s over and we see a few /gg’s in chat.

Now, the chat is probably the most interesting thing happening. With BK having no chance of winning, half their team are mages. This strategy seems to be working out, but not for too long. Defy manages to steal again with their soldier and have the chemist supporting the flagcarrier and getting the cap.

BK vs TNSE
​

We were not able to write this article due to focusing on other events. The scores were 6-0, BK win. Player of the game is @Unifier for being able to hold BK's defense together even when down players on the first map.

MSW Invitational​

MSW has created and set in motion a tournament for the community. The tournament leaves out the top 3 teams, allowing for a more fair and competitive/even ground competition. We will be planning a tournament for the other teams later. Meanwhile, the tournament will take place in January, and end around February/March. Read more Here! With that said, lets get into our first pre match interview, featuring @xAsh involving The Crusaders vs The Black Knights. Conducted by @LordCh4os , followed by an interview with @Unifier , conducted by @Godman

LordCh4os: So, first of all, good luck in your match vs BK, are you feeling confident?

xAsh: We had a three hour practice yesterday for this match that everyone really enjoyed and did well on, so I think we're all pretty excited for today. The BK roster is intimidating though aha

LordCh4os: Glad to see you're well prepared! Any people on your team you think will have a real chance to shine this match?

xAsh: I don't want to single anyone out to much, we're proud of our whole team & we always hope our entire roster will shine at some point in the game but we are excited to finally have Quar in a match with us!

LordCh4os: True, I'm sure the whole team will shine? Anyone you're particularly worried about on the other team?

xAsh: I think Raging's name on any roster always makes ours groan. LeDoner is also a bit of a concern as pyro for us but we'll see!

LordCh4os: I guess we'll just have to see, yeah! Any potential things your side that could cause problems?

xAsh: We're pretty happy with our roster but it's no secret that BK overranks our teams PVP by leagues so that is always an issue.

LordCh4os: Alrighty, final question, I'm sure you're excited to face BK, but which team are you most excited to face in your group?

xAsh: We've always been pretty matched with 5ive's teams so TC vs TNSE should be a pretty good match.

LordCh4os: Sounds Great. TNSE is of course a great team, so we're also really looking forward to it! Once again, good luck in the match, and thanks for taking the time to talk to us!

xAsh: Anytime! Thanks for the interview



Godman: How is the team feeling currently since TC has been stepping up on how they are playing in matches?

Unifier: We're all a bit stressed out since it's a tournament match but apart from that I think we are feeling pretty confident about it.

Godman: Is there any anxiety or nervousness on the players that are playing since it is a tournament match?

Unifier: I have no idea about the others but I'm pretty nervous because of this match. We may have beaten them in the past but they have recruited some dank good members lately and I think TC won't make it easy on us.

Godman: Has the team prepared for this match?

Unifier: Not really, most of our players our players who play matches and little outside that (mostly looking at raging and some other Overwatch skrubs).

Godman: Any other teams you're looking forward to facing?

Unifier: I think all of us in BK are looking forward to BK vs U since we still want to redeem that loss back in October
