Hardcore Games Events, Regular HG and KOTH (3/25/17)

Hello Brawlers!

This weekend we will be hosting two events on the Hardcore Games servers, King of the Hill and a round of Regular HG. We will play two games this Saturday at 3pm EST and 7pm UTC. We will be playing perhaps two of our most popular events so be prepared.

Regular HG

Just a normal game of HG.

Last man standing wins.

King of the Hill

HG game where the goal is the first to stay on top of a generated hill for 15 seconds uninterrupted.

Players must be alone on the hill for the time to count.

Time isn't cumulative.

Certain kits are disabled.

Prizes for the winners of each event will be 1 week of Global Elite. We will start the Regular HG game first and the KOTH will be broadcasted whenever the first game ends, so be alert. There will be around 15 minutes to join the game before the start time.

War Update - 03/20/17

Hey Brawlers,

Recently we put out a thread about gun changes, and with some of the feedback, we changed some of the guns.
So saying this, I bring to you my first update as War Manager!

Gun changes:

PP90M1

Increased Damage from 4 to 5

Decreased range from 70m to 65m

Barret:

Increased Damage from 26 to 27

Changed delay between shots from 20 to 21

MP7:

Changed Magazine size from 20 + 44 to 25+ 39

Map changes:

Cove (Removed 2 OOM's)

Underground (Removed 1 OOM)

Stronghold (Fixed some glitch spots)

Downhill (Removed 1 OOM)

House Cleaning & Advertising Prep

Hello Brawlers,

I always love it when simple cosmetic improvements can be made to the servers. We got a little sidetracked today on some well needed appearance updates. Along with the addition of polls and a new server banner, this update serves well as some good advertising preparation. Be sure to read until the end and answer the thread poll!

I'll get back to that, but first here are the tweaks we did...

Tweaks

1. Server menu:

We've finally updated the old Brawl logo to the new fist. We couldn't part from the old one <3

The 2nd line is a random message advertising the gamemodes. Expect to see this when nothing super special is happening.

The gray dots, they are important, they look fancy, right?

2. Lobby tweaks:

Gamemode descriptions now show above each portal

The type/style of the gamemode is is listed above its player count

All gamemode statues now have a fancy outfit on (oooh!)

Just some general fixes to ensure that new players have as much information as possible. Surprisingly, the lobby is a lot more characterized and colorful with the new additions.

3. Polls added!
They can do the question above and anything else we can dream of! Imagine all the possibilities

The poll above will help us find out where we should be putting more (or even less) effort into future advertising at. Your honest vote is appreciated, you may for this poll on the lobby!

You will probably be so tired of answering these because we already have so many questions already in mind. We can make the polls specific per gamemode, so it is a really helpful feedback tool for us. #communication

4. More in-game tips!
The staff whipped up some helpful messages for the in-game auto announcer. These have been added in attempt to help players understand the server better. Why not, right?

Advertising Prep Talk

Now back to the thing about advertising. We're trying to make the network player friendly enough that advertising strategies will work. I don't want to spend tons of effort and money on getting players on to have them leave immediately. With multiple gamemodes around the corner from major updates and improvements, its the perfect time to begin.

We recently had a new voting site banner made to get the ball rolling. Feel free to use this on any site (respectfully) to advertise and to represent Brawl.

Other plans include restructuring our voting system and to implement some concept of a "reward" system to encourage daily logins along with rewards for supporting Brawl via social media, the forums, etc.

These will come down the line after the new cosmetic system is implemented. You may have noticed a few staff using some of these new titles or gadgets (its pretty hype). We just need to figure out some more specifics and work on implementing them into each gamemode.

I also plan to get in touch with a web developer to see if we can get the site spiced up. There are some major functionality improvements that can also boost our search engine ranking.

Regarding this thread's poll

Lastly, regarding the poll on this thread. I'm asking if you would be fine with making non-specific (not numbered) IPs go to the hub instead of a random server for that gamemode. So for example it would function like this:

brawl.com -> goes to hub

minecraftparty.com -> goes to hub (currently goes to a random Party server)
1.minecraftparty.com -> goes to server #1 Party
2.minecraftparty.com -> goes to server #2 Party

mc-war.com -> goes to hub (currently goes to a random War server)
1.mc-war.com -> goes to server #1 War
2.mc-war.com -> goes to server #2 War

etc...

The pros of this is that everyone is kind of forced to visit the hub. This means that people finding the gamemode IP from a specific YouTube video or advertisement will learn that Brawl has even more gamemodes. In return, the player could find interest in our other gamemodes too.

The cons of this would be that it could slow regulars down that use the specific IPs. For example, most players on Build probably just log on any random server with "minecraftbuild.com" with no interest of joining the hub before. However, perhaps a we could allow you to put "random" in place of the number to join a random server.

Medieval Build Contest Results and... MORE changes?!

It’s the moment you’ve all been waiting for: Build Comp results! But first, I want to chat a little bit about the Build Competition format itself.

As you may or may not have noticed, we haven’t had a huge amount of submissions this time round. Not really a big deal, it’s only our second try and stuff like this helps us to make contests even better for you guys in the future! So, we’ve been having a little brainstorm as to why we didn’t get as many entries this time and what we can do to change that.

One reason was that the theme of the contest wasn’t great, and I take full responsibility for this: my reasoning was that if we chose a theme that a lot of people were familiar with, naturally we’d get a lot of entries. What I didn’t account for was that the theme was a bit TOO broad and directionless, which meant it was difficult to know what to build.

The other reason came straight from @chickenputty, the big dog himself. He argued that the frequency of the competitions made them less special. And he’s right: while our intentions were good, advertising a contest 24/7 with no breaks in between means you’ll just get bored of them.

What that means is that from now on, Build Contests will be bi-monthly (once every two months). They’ll still last a month, but you’ll have a break in between. This has the added benefit of letting the Build Team spend more time to make sure that the next contest is perfect.

Please do tell us what you think – in the end, all we want to do is make it more fun for you, so any suggestions are welcome! This includes ideas for the theme of the next contest, which will likely be announced on April 1st (actually, that gives me an idea already…). Is there anything in particular you want to build? Do you enjoy building for Brawl gamemodes or is that too restrictive? Are bimonthly contests a great idea or what? Let us know!

Enough chit-chat – let’s get down to business. This is what you really came for… the results! This month very much prioritised quality over quantity and it was actually very difficult to choose a top 3. That said, we managed, so without further ado here are your contest winners!

In third place is a familiar face - @Fordale! Fordale’s already proven herself to be a great builder by winning Builder of the Month last month and placing in the previous contest, and her latest entry, Drogon vs Maleficent, is somehow even more impressive than those submissions. The reason it didn’t place higher was partly because it’s more fantasy-themed than medieval, and partly because of the other great submissions. Nevertheless, she’s earned herself ten bucks to spend in the Brawl store and an extra map!

In second place is @ciberblock67, for Kingdom of Jehovah! Ciber (AKA captainserious97) has improved tremendously since his WE1 application in 2014, and this map is proof of that. While on a smaller scale there’s still room for improvement, he’s shown proficiency in terraforming, organics, buildings, originality, composition and dedication to a build. It’s a very impressive combination of lots of different style of building and we can’t wait to see what comes next! For his efforts, Ciberblock67 gets $15 to spend in the Brawl store and two extra maps.

And finally, in first place is someone who’s been waiting anxiously on the results, and for good reason – congratulations to @Pyrotheum, creator of Sky Islands! We all know that Pyro’s a great builder (having also won BotM) and this map’s no exception to the rule – it’s got beautiful details, interesting colours and a fun concept. Overall, it’s a refined map by a very proficient and hardworking builder, and one that’s very much deserving of first place! Pyro earns himself $20 to spend in the Brawl store, 3 free maps and a contest winner forum medal. Great work!

However, this bunny was no ordinary bunny. He was watching King Arthur very closely; waiting. When the King turned his back, the bunny pounced and GRRRR!” The mother growled playfully, leaning over the bed to tickle the little girl’s stomach. Both laughed and the mother grabbed a stuffed rabbit from where it had fallen on the floor, placing it amongst the covers.

“Mommy! That’s not how a bunny sounds!” The little girl proclaimed with a scowl. The mother feigned shock and continued decluttering the small room. At the end, a fire was glowing softly, shedding the room in a warm, orange hue and scattering shadows across the walls.

“Really? What sound does a bunny make than, Bunny Master Emily?” She asked, giggling slightly. Emily did not skip a beat. She ripped the blankets off her and jumped down from her bed, instantly modeling a rabbit. Hopping around the room and making adorable squeaks, it was clear that this was well-rehearsed. Her mother watched on in amusement while moving over to begin making her daughter’s bed.

“All right bunny master. It’s time for all little bunnies to go to bed.” She said motherly. Emily hopped over and was picked up and placed onto the freshly-made covers. Her mother handed her the stuffed rabbit and leaned over to kiss her forehead. Emily snuggled into her blankets and yawned, blinking slowly. Emily’s mother moved towards the door. Suddenly, a cold wind shook the house and caused the fire to dance in the fireplace. The sound of rain could be heard pattering on the roof and Emily’s mother turned to see a confused Emily.

“Mommy, why is the killer bunny so mean?” She asked, pulling the blankets up closer around her.

“It’s late Emily….” The mother began, but a crash of thunder cut her off. Emily flinched and her mother sighed, realizing Emily’s reason for asking. “Ok. One more, but then it’s off to bed with you, ok?” Emily nodded and scooted over to make room for her mother, who sat down next to her. Outside, the wind continued to make the fire send shadows dancing about the room.

“A long time ago, there was a plain white rabbit….”

This white rabbit was the youngest of 12 other brothers and sisters. He was adored by his mother and father, and all 15 of them lived happily together amongst some broken flower pots near an old farmer’s house. They never took much food from the farmer, for fear of being found out, and their parents always warned them to be fearful of humans. One night, while he and his siblings were playing hide and seek, the young bunny wandered off and became lost. After hopping around aimlessly for a couple of hours, weariness overcame him and he curled up before falling asleep on the bank of a river, the forest leering around him.

He awoke the next morning to the sound of splashing water. Jumping up, he looked around to see another rabbit swimming in the stream. He was a mottled brown and seemed to actually be enjoying himself. The stranger noticed he was being watched and swam to shore. Shaking himself off, he hopped over to the groggy bunny.

“I just love a good bath in the morning!” He exclaimed, stretching under the sun’s rays, “My owner used to have a bath ready for me every day. Say, you haven’t seen a farmhouse around here, have you?” The little white rabbit shook his head sadly.

“I’m from a farm, but I got lost yesterday. Don’t know where I am now….” The strangely-colored rabbit thought for a moment and finally stood up from his stretching.

“Well, I guess we’re looking for it together then.” He said matter-of-factly. He began moving out into the surrounding woods. The little white bunny followed closely behind.

“You got a name, little guy?” The stranger questioned. The white bunny shook his head.

“We don’t really go by names in my family. Do you have one?” He asked glumly, missing his family.

“Yea. My owner gave it to me. Name’s Toast.” He said cheerfully, “Well I hope we live in the same place. That’d make this a lot easier.”

“I live around a bunch of old flower pots next to a farmhouse, if that helps.” The nameless bunny began. Suddenly, Toast stopped dead in his tracks and spun around to face him.

“So you guys are the rabbits who keep eating my owner’s crops?” He gasped. The little bunny’s heart dropped. If the farmer noticed, it could be bad for all of them. Toast noticed his expression and slowly started to smile.

“Hey. It’s gonna be ok. My owner’s half-blind sometimes. He couldn’t find his hand in front of his face. Your family is safe there as long as they don’t give themselves away.” The white rabbit perked up a bit and Toast smiled more broadly. They continued hopping along, sticking to the main paths and keeping track of which direction they were headed based on the sun’s position. Eventually, colored eggs began to litter the path and Toast squealed with glee.

“My owner leaves out colored eggs like this whenever I get lost! We can follow these back home!” The little white bunny sighed thankfully and the duo quickened their pace. It was around noon when they crested a hill and saw smoke rising from the chimney of their farmhouse. Toast turned to his new friend to say goodbye, but stopped short when he noticed him staring. The little bunny, who had been happy about being home a moment before, now stood stock still. His ears were raised and pointed towards the house and his nose was twitching.

“I feel sick…” He said quietly, “Something isn’t right. It’s never this quiet.” Without another word, the youngster picked his way slowly across the field, almost as if in a trance. It was when they were about 100 feet from the flower pots that the young rabbit took off running. His breath was caught in his throat and he had a feeling of dread. The smell of blood still hung in the air and he didn’t need to enter the burrow to know what had happened; the red-stained dirt was enough proof. Toast was next to him in a moment and he reached for the orphaned bunny to try to console him, but decided against it. The grieving rabbit stared ahead, tears falling silently down his face. Then, a scowl formed where a smile had been earlier that day. That scowl soon turned into a ferocious snarl and the bunny raced around, kicking into his home and destroying what he had once held dear. Then he collapsed to the floor. Toast had taken cover and dared to go no further.

“He did this….” The now not-so-white bunny muttered. Toast wandered closer and turned an ear his direction. He heard his friend speaking under his breath and decided to try to calm him down.

“Hey man. It’s ok. We’ll get through-” He never finished his sentence, because the young bunny turned and lunged at him. Falling to the ground, they tussled together until Toast was pinned. His ear was bleeding and this nose was scratched. The little bunny was growling.

“This is human's’ fault! They did this! You were in on it too, weren’t you?” His eyes were wild and Toast breathlessly said,

“You’re a monster… Rabbits don’t act like this.” The dusty, angry rabbit leaned in close and, through clenched teeth, hissed,

“Get out. And never come back.” Toast’s eyes widened and he wiggled free. With one last look at the rabbit he had once called friend, he tore back out towards the forest. As the grief-stricken rabbit sat there, a cold fire had started in his stomach and he waited until nightfall. With the moon above him, he snuck up to a half-opened window and slunk inside. In the dead of night, he hunted. The farmer was never seen again. As for Toast, his owner’s family continued to leave colored eggs in the hope of finding him, but over the years of no luck, it became more of a once-a-year tradition than an actual hope. As for the killer rabbit, he disappeared without a trace.

Emily’s mother stared at her sleeping child and smiled gently. She tucked her in before silently making her way out of the room. When the door had been carefully shut, she let out a great sigh of relief.

“At least she fell asleep before the bad part.” She said to herself. As she made her way to the kitchen for a late night snack, however, she heard what sounded like light thumping. Emily’s mother’s heart dropped and all of the color drained from her face. The thumping quickened and she saw what appeared to be a cotton ball run between the counters. She had no time to scream before the killer rabbit had gotten her. Outside, the rain still fell, signaling the beginning of Spring. The pitter patter as the drops hit the old, abandoned flower pots reverberated through the night, drowning out all other sounds. Remember to lock your doors, for the killer rabbit is out there; and leave your colored eggs for Toast to follow back home! Happy Easter everyone!
