Match Spotlight Weekly Issue #9

Introductory Note​

With Thanksgiving behind us, and a total MSW newsletter break to focus on creating and overlooking the tourney, we are back and in business to give the community their daily dosage of competitive CTF and team related issues. We are happy to be back!

The Prophecy​

We here at MSW like to pretend to be professionals, and what would fake professionals be without match predictions. Our analysts are locked in a basement and forced to calculate match results the best of the best, and try to offer predictions based off of rosters, map possibilities, recent matches, and more. Here are the predictions for next week!

Gamren's Predictions- Not too many matches this week, but should definitely be exciting! As per usual, I will be streaming them. My stream can be found Here

Hopping right into it, Anni vs Defiance is the only match that can publicly be seen (and is official). Defiance has recently gotten back into the game by changing up rosters and leadership, with @Prank leading the charge along with @Jul13n. Anni is definitely looking like the powerhouse that they used to be back in the day of McPvP. Will Defiance's new blood be able to take down the powerhouse known as Anni? Honestly, I myself am highly interested to see how this match goes. Looking at rosters, I think that Defiance has the potential to out-PvP Anni, while Anni has closer teamwork and coordination. My predictions are as so:
3-1, 2-1 Annihilation win. With Anni's classic pick of Airlock/Airlock rework, they have been able to take down many teams with this pocket pick. Overall, this should be a good one, and upsets are always prone to happen.

Notice Board​

Please do not ask MSW members for permission to spectate matches. We cannot speak for other reps and their wishes, so please ask both reps BEFORE matches. Referee consent will also be in play at all times if they wish. MSW can issue guest passes to those that wish to help out with things like commentating and related, but these passes are highly limited and will only be handed out to those that will add on to the quality of content covered by MSW. Passes are affected by the blacklist, referee preference, and refs/teams consent.

Team leaders/reps, you can always limit the amount of spectators that are in your matches if you wish. If you are bothered by the amount of spectators coming into your matches, then please feel free to pm your match referee and any concerns to gamren or MSW leaders/representatives. All we ask is that you may be thoughtful and fair if you do request to limit spectator numbers accordingly. Your match referee can also control the amount of spectators allowed.

Match of the Week #6- The Black Knights vs Annihilation
(3-0 BK, 1-0 Anni, 2-0 BK)


Match of the Week​

Both Annihilation and The Black Knights have been on the rise with not only popularity, but success in matches as well. Both teams are the favorites in their tournament group stages, and also these teams are predicted by many to be the teams to meet in the finals of the MSW Invitational Tournament.

Hopping right in-game, we can quickly analyze that by past matches, both BK and Annihilation have a love for choosing airlock. What happens when Airlock rework and Airlock is chosen back to back though? Chaos ensues. Into map 1, BK was able to pull a solid 3-0 against a scattered Anni, in an astounding 8 minutes. Although they put up a fight, obviously there were some coordination issues going on in Anni if you witnessed the match. Many were skeptical to see how Annihilation would do against BK on the regular airlock, which was the next map, and also a BK all time favorite.

Immediately into map two, we could see an immense increase in coordination, defense, and overall teamwork coming from Anni. Although both teams seemed to be at an overall stalemate when it came to stealing, Anni seemed to have an edge over BK when it came to stealing and getting out of the flagroom. Realizing their chance to return into the game, Annihilation started sending more and more pressure onto offense. Eventually, at around 5 minutes into the game, both teams safely had their flag carriers, with the enemy flag, in their flagroom. This on-going stalemate lasted for about 2-3 minutes until a solid assassination came by from @elmocookie , allowing @Miskey to gain a capture, setting Anni 1-0 on the board, allowing them to win the second game and move onto the third map.

Although with a recent boost in charisma, Anni immediately seemed to have lost their offensive coordination. They watched in pain as they lost 3 possible captures due to problems like not targeting the archer and the medic/flag carrier not paying attention to one another. Due to this fault, BK was able to take a solid win over Anni 2-0 on skyworlds, allowing The Black Knights to take down Annihilation 2-1 (map-wise), at an overall score of 5-1, going to BK. A very well played game by both, hopefully we can look to a rematch in the future

MSW Invitational​

MSW has created and set in motion a tournament for the community. The tournament leaves out the top 3 teams, allowing for a more fair and competitive/even ground competition. We will be planning a tournament for the other teams later. Meanwhile, the tournament will take place in January, and end around February/March. Read more Here!
