I haven't played Minecraft for 2-3 years up until this month, but when I went onto MCCTF...there were some changes. One of which were upon the dwarf. Does anyone like the changes, because as a dwarf user I don't.

I know I'm new to the forums, and I apologize for any ignorance in this post.

    Buffs > Nerfs.
I am an outsider mostly in the CTF community, but I can tell you this for sure.

Every class has some amazing strengths, for sure.

The problem is many classes probably have a variation on how good those strengths are. These strengths outweigh the weaknesses by a lot, creating an "OP" class. Buffing a characters strengths is not good game design, everything is too gimmicy at that point. Instead of nerfing OP classes, we should buff character weaknesses. I don't think those weaknesses should go away, because that defines the class. Yet making these weaknesses more manigable creates a more competitive, fun, and fair enviroments for mains of any class.

Idk if you know what dwarf is, but let me put it this way: before the nerf, it was basically a slow Hulk. Unlimited power. You could literally get Sharpness 30+, Flame 5, KB 10+ diamond sword in a single game of CTF. On top of this you have almost full diamond armor. Plz tell me what weaknesses we should have buffed to combat that.

    1. I understand what dwarf does
    2. A point to be made here is the lack of range of dwarf, and possibly other characters. I think buffing the weak range on class could be a point of interest, but I don't know how someone would go about that.

I also wouldn't jump the gun on a buff or nerf too soon, you want new stratagies, which will pop up eventually, to counter dwarf that haven't been discovered yet.

True. However, there are some strategies and classes which are so OP that they need to be nerfed. Say if heavy got buffed so it countered dwarf, this means heavy would still be the only good counter to dwarf (other than assassin). This means dwarf would still be just as powerful to every single other class in the game, which means it'll still be an issue. However, if dwarf got nerfed, this means heavy would be able to counter it better (since even with full diamond armour, sharpness XI is a lot) but every class wouldn't find the class incredibly OP.

With dwarf, this is exactly what happens. Dwarf's weaknesses are that it has absolutely no mobility and a limited health pool. However, as dwarf is primarily played in the flag room, this means its lack of mobility is not an issue, as it just needs to camp in the flag base. As well as this, its small health pool isn't an issue either, as most defences will have a medic. This means that, for defence only (ignoring recovery or anything like that, as dwarf was never intended to be able to recover), it essentially has no weakness.

This is a bit awkward because this means dwarf relies on being able to get an insanely OP sword in order to be any good. Say if dwarf had a level cap of 3 instead of 11 - dwarf wouldn't be very good on defence because it wouldn't have an absolutely huge damage output, compared to ninja or assassin which both have much more mobility than dwarf. So to balance dwarf, its advantages need to be nerfed but its disadvantages need to buffed too.

I'm not a fan of the dwarf nerf, to be honest. It was way too small of a tweak and it hasn't really solved much - sure, dwarf used to be much more powerful but it still is powerful now. An attentive dwarf accompanied with a medic is still nearly unstoppable on defence, especially on some maps like Opposites Collide, where its hard to hit the dwarf away from the flag post before you pick it up. The nerf was a good start, but more needs to be done to make dwarf remotely balanced. As I said above, its brute force needs to be nerfed but its mobility needs to be buffed, to make dwarf a decent class again.

Dwarf doesn't need a nerf. It needs a rework.

The dwarf nerf was really put in place to stop it from being ridiculous whilst permanent changes were put in place. I hope those changes do get put in place soon but until then we'll just have to deal with it. I definitely want a rework over a simple nerf.

I think the nerf for dwarf had good motives but it still didnt really nerf it. You still get 1 shotted as a medic or chemist when the dwarf is level 10, and when it has buffs, the other team is automatically screwed. So maybe dwarf shouldnt be able to haemve buffs or crits idk.

First, let me set some things straight.

@BrandinoB is incorrect. In a 40 minute CTF Game, the old standard time, if you held shift for the entire game, you could only get to a maximum level of 28. I know because i've tested it. In a current 20 minute game, if a dwarf was lucky enough to survive for the whole game, and the entire game lasted for the full 20 minutes, the theoretical maximum is about 20. On average, a dwarf would get to between levels 14 and 16 before dying to an assassin or some form of team work.

Second, the reason that dwarf was so powerful was because it was designed to solo-defend the flag for potentially 40 minutes. During this time, the average size for any particular game was between 60 and 70 players.

Most players would play offense and either have a large fight in the middle of the map, or go and try to cap the flag. Because of this, the average team that attempted to capture the flag was between 4 and 6 people at once.

However, because fighting in the middle of the map was the most fun thing to do, there was very little defense, usually a medic, heavy, and a ninja. If a dwarf ever managed to make its way into the flag room without getting killed by the 15 or so players having a battle around the flag building, anybody defending the flag would generally leave, because there was a dwarf guarding the flag.

As such, if a dwarf was ever in the flag room, it was generally there alone, with sporadic help from a medic or other random people. And as it was generally alone, it had to be able to face 4-6 people at once and win, successfully defending the flag and surviving.

Since this, the meta of the game has changed. There are less players on the gamemode, and the ones who do play generally focus on the objectives rather than having fun, large battles, and getting massive kill streaks. This causes the numbers of defenders to swell, and the number of attackers to diminish due to a lack of possible players.

As a result, if there is a dwarf in the flag room, it is most definitely not alone, making it seem more OP. Additionally, there are less attackers to act as distractions/tanks/etc. making it seem more OP.

Because of this, dwarf as the class it was is balanced, however the game meta makes it OP.

In conclusion, because the dwarf is only unbalanced because of the gamemode, it requires a full rework, not just a nerf.

TL;DR It isn't the class itself that makes Dwarf OP, its the meta. @Dankmastr_Memesn is right. Dwarf needs a full rework.

After reading the many comments already posted, it seems dwarf has been disliked/feared in the past few years and that's a reason for the change. Since dwarf is a class I use actively I thought it was futile to nerf the class the way they did it...they might have well have left it the way it was before.

The nerf is annoying, for a dwarf, because now you can't one shot most classes anymore which is a problem for defense and for the dwarf. Assassins and chemists can kill a dwarf easily when one on one, even half a dozen other defense can be easy for the take down of a dwarf. Many players can also defeat a dwarf, so having 5 people against a dwarf means with the new nerf the dwarf obviously doesn't stand a chance especially if the classes have good armor. The dwarf has one job, protect a flag and itself at melee. With slowness a dwarf is balanced, even at lvl 20 because there are classes when utilized correctly can take out a dwarf. With the new meta, as described by THECOMMANDERS643 previously, dwarf seems to have become futile. I have seen this in recent CTF games too.

Dwarf has no purpose or job now because of the en massed defenses these days, I myself as a dwarf can't even land hits on the enemy anymore due to the crowding of the defending flag. Dwarf needs an entire reworking as said by others.

I think if people complain about dwarf so much for how OP it is, the devs should simply allow dwarf to have no limit on level(Which would be only so much because of time constraints.) and have 1 or no steak. This will make a dwarf vulnerable because of lifespan and with its previous slowness effect at place it could be considered balanced because of the new weakness along with its original weakness(es) counter batting its original strengths.

That's how I would at first see a resolve to this issue...but the meta makes what I just said useless. So it makes more sense to me to add a new class that can deal with a defense or like others have said to change the current classes to make them better.

I apologize if any part of this doesn't make sense, just mention it and I can elaborate, otherwise that's what was on my mind.

dwarf is still the OPest class in the game and not being able to one shot every class doesn't change it

I think OP is a phrase that isn't justified sometimes or defined sometimes. What makes dwarf so OP in your eyes? You need to take into account on how scenarios work with dwarf as well. Dwarf is proficient in confined spaces where there aren't many entries/exits and little space to move. Most maps appear to no longer have this dimension as flag rooms have been edited to have more room on old maps that had confined spaces and the newer maps do have a large open area already for the flag.

I see it as dwarf becoming less over powerful, and simply becoming powerful.

Nothing. Just the Sharpness XI, Knockback III, Fire Aspect II sword and damage potion, poison, fire, and headshot immunity.

Oh nooooo, now you can only 2-3 shot a heavy/everything instead of one shotting it! The horror!! It takes 1% more skill than before! It's too much! Must complain about dwarf being too weak!

If you compare this class to other defensive classes like assassin, ninja, and pyro, dwarf is way more op. First of all, a dwarf CAN defend against 5 people with good armor. You just need decent aim and that level II knockback and you can slap them away while theyre on fire. Other classes cannot deal with 5 good armoured players at once. They have little to no armour and can be surprise attacked by ninja and killed. Basically, dwarf can deal with 5 people.

Second, dwarf has great armor. The other classes are in the lower half of classes in term of armor points, and only 1 has steak to heal, making dwarf about a heavy.

Finally, dwarf has an INSANE damage output, to where if it has buffs or crits level 10, it 1-shots anything. This makes is the equvilant of an always frenzy pyro, or a buffed critting ninja or always activated assassination (which can be blocked). It literally only has to wait for about 5 minutes and then it can stay in this hulk mode for the rest of the game!

And while you could say the mobility makes it weak, the flagroom cant move, meaning you can just sit there and kill or severly damage any flag carrier.

Anyway, there are tricks where you can get a medic to remove your slowness by healing and a chemist to give you speed I. This means you can now move as fast as any other sprinting player. Horay! You just got yourself a diamond-armoured one-shotter that's coming for you!

Overall, dwarf can 1v5, has 2nd best armor, has steak, does as much damage as a frenzy pyro, and can negate the mobilty "weakness" with its flagroom camping.

Dwarfs are not immune to damage potion, poison, and headshots(not sure as of the recent years)...I know that because the two potions caused damage to me when I played dwarf this past weekend. The headshots though I don't know about for the recent times of CTF, but I have been headshotted before as dwarf(years back, but I don't know for today's CTF)

I would like to point out you still can't sprint(a dwarf doesn't have 3 food for that capability) and even with a speed potion from a chemist or a medic's short term effects you ultimately still remain crouched. If someone of the opposing team were to come into the flag room and the defense hadn't prepared for it via buffing and medic effects, the attacker will be the primary focus not making sure the dwarf is up to normal speed.

I get what I had stated previously sounded like a complaint, but I wrote it to be read as a comment that informed you as readers where I my thinking was or opinion. I get it that people don't like dwarf because of its potential on an opposing team, but that doesn't mean your team can't have such a class on your defense.

Another way to 'nerf' the dwarf class is to simply lengthen the required time to go up each level, maybe even make it so it takes almost 20 minutes to reach lvl 11. This would make dwarf only OP if it could survive the whole game and only start reaching its dangerous levels towards the end of a game.

Have a glorious day everyone who reads this! :grinning:

@Claod Dwarf is supposed to be able to deal with 1v5 scenarios because it was designed to solo-defend the flag. Whenever a dwarf enters the flag room, everybody else is generally expected to leave because the extra defense is redundant, allowing them to go play offense.

However, because people actually play defense now, there will always be more people than just a dwarf in the flag room, which is what makes it OP. With that being said, the easiest ways to kill a dwarf are, in order, assassin, mage, and teamwork. Yes, you actually have to work together in a team game to accomplish anything, surprising.

In 1v1 secnarios, a competent dwarf will always win against all low armored classes (archer and below) at lvl 5. At lvl 11, the current max, a competent heavy is still more than capable of beating a dwarf in a 1v1 scenario. If you have two heavies, a heavy-soldier, or a heavy-medic combo, unless they are braindead, the dwarf will die. An exceptional ninja is also capable of killing a dwarf as well.

Also, to clarify what you and Brandino said. Assuming lvl 11 and full health enemies, a dwarf can only 1-shot ninjas and assassins. Elf and Mage are 1-shot if they do not heal before fire damage kills them. Pyro, Engineer are both two-shot. Chemists, archers, and medics take 3 shots to kill. Soldiers, other dwarfs, and heavies take 4 shots to kill.

Ignoring assassin and ninja, these numbers do increase if you factor in steak use.

@Blaze106 Before the nerf, dwarf used to become immune to fire, pyro insta-kills (pre-rework), damage, and poison potions at lvl 5, and gain water breathing at lvl 10. Currently, a dwarf gains the same resistances, but it must reach lvl 10 to earn them.

As for the blocking, you still can, and always have been able to block with a dwarf to reduce all incoming damage to a maximum of 1 heart. However, you lose experience proportional to the amount of damage reduced. Headshots remove a whopping 1000 experience. If you don't have enough experience to remove, you die. With this ability, if you block a headshot at lvl 11, you'll get reduced to between 4 and 5, which is just on the cusp of being able to block a second headshot. Two in quick succession will kill you, but if you can avoid being hit again for about 3 seconds, you can block 2 headshots in a row.
