There's not really anything we can do about it though. We can't force people to want to become a staff member and we can't help players become staff if they don't want to help themselves too. I'm already willing to coach people in becoming a staff member but a lot of the time, people simply don't follow advice.

 

Our requirements are pretty straightforward:

• In-game activity, since you'd be a bad staff member if you weren't active in-game
• Forum activity, since you'd be a bad staff member if you weren't active on the forums
• Good experience with the server and community, since you won't be able to help new players and be a benefit to Brawl unless you know what you're talking about
• Maturity, since you won't be a good staff member if you make yourself look bad or make situations worse in-game
• Show interest in making Brawl better, since this is something you'll naturally be doing if you're applying because you want to make Brawl better

It's worth mentioning that TS is no longer a requirement for staff members, it was a pretty quiet change for some reason and I think the requirements thread still needs updating.

And for all of our requirements, here are our standards:

• For in-game activity, play for an hour a day, which is honestly less than what the community expects from staff members.

• For forum activity, posting a few times a week is enough. This'll just naturally happen if you respond to suggestions, something that the community often expects staff members to do.

• For experience, as long as you know enough about the server to help new players and help get good updates for the server, that's enough. Again, this is what the community expects from staff members - if we released a bad update, we'd get a lot of criticism. We need to have enough experience with the server to not try to get bad updates.

• For maturity, if you're able to calm toxic situations down and not make yourself look bad, that's enough. If you make toxic situations worse then you're detrimental to Brawl rather than beneficial, so that really should be an obvious standard. If you make yourself look bad the community will get pretty annoyed at you.

• For showing interest in making Brawl better: this just comes naturally if you want to make Brawl better. Applying to reduce the amount of hackers? You'll naturally be reporting players a lot. Applying to make the gamemodes better? You'll naturally be suggesting ideas (either on the forums or to staff directly) and responding to idea threads on the forums. If you want to make Brawl better and are willing to put the effort in, you'll be doing this without even realising it.

We hold staff candidates to the same standards as the community holds staff members to. Every staff member should be of a benefit to the community, so this is the sensible thing to do.
