I feel like locking the thread and saying nothing about it is worse. At least by saying you can be PMed for more questions, people know what to do if they have something more to add.

It is rather obvious that staff members can be PMed for questions - and if a new player doesn't know what a PM is at all, such a message won't help.

But even that's not really much of an explanation. If someone's asking a question, it's equally obvious that they don't know about the topic, and so closing off responses from people that might know more than was provided in the answer seems counterproductive.
