start easy, and focus on building endurance by just increasing mileage. doesn't matter how fast or slow it is, but more mileage builds aerobic capacity which increases the amount of time you can go before you start going anaerobic (where basically you're out of oxygen)
and keep in mind that it's mostly mental, I usually try to think that when I feel out of gas, I've still got 30% left. run as much as you can but don't worry about the speed. if you're joining an xc team or something, make it fun to run with them or anyone, really.
sorry for the bomperoo but here‘s 2 tips from me:
1) don‘t run after working hard and late in your chemistry lab for 5 hours
2) always stretch and start slow
