Have you ever had that point in your life where you feel lost in a thick gray fog?

Before CTF came into my life, every single day was the same old thing. My mom got me up in the morning at nine, I did nothing half the day aside from watching episodes of M*A*S*H* and the West Wing while my mom fed me and did housework and occasionally I'd play another game of League of Legends, only to get banned if I had to leave for some reason.
Then in the evening I'd beat my mom at Scrabble and then I'd talk to my dad about how much the Seattle Mariners suck (I regret every time I watch that so called baseball team play) and then I'd go back to bed.

That might sound like an easy existence to some of you but truthfully - it was miserable.

There were times when I walked outside and I just wanted to run. I'd often get that way after looking in the mirror and wondering why my hair didn't fall nice and straight on my head like Brad Pitt instead of making me look like the Beast in The Beauty and the Beast after a good night’s sleep.

Once I heard this song on 93.3 'thugs, drugs, and more thugs' radio and for some reason this one lyric stuck out in my mind:

We found love in a homeless place.

Wait... sorry I got that wrong, here's what it really said:

We found love in a hopeless place.

I don’t remember the name of the song, mainly because the rest of it was pretty forgettable – my apologies to those of you who are fans of it, we all have different tastes – but that particular lyric stuck with me. Much like that one line in a good Seth Rogen movie that line followed me from my Sophmore though my Senior year in high school. It followed me after I met my first girlfriend, and then stayed with me after we went our separate ways because I was too white or something.

It took me a long time but I finally figured out why I remembered that line, it was because of CTF.

I met CTF when I was about to enter my Scrubman (Freshman) year of high school. At the time I was still trying to work though my eighth grade superiority complex to realize just how insignificant I was. But the moment I met CTF, it was like the meeting with Christian Grey and whatsherface – no, no it wasn’t like that at all, it was like magic.

CTF was very helpful for me because it gave me somewhere to vent all my silly little pre adult frustrations as I entered my Scrubman year in High School. CTF was awesome because it allowed me to pose as a six foot tall guy with ‘that bod’ to hide the fact that I am an insecure, skinny little white kid. But best of all, CTF was – and is – an amazing game mode with interesting or funny people and even more interesting moderators and coders.

After CTF came into my life I was able to gain some measure of self-esteem. If some jerkoff was going ham on my booty in class I could come back at him with great lines like this:

“Well, I might not have gotten an A on that test but I can hotkey and quick drop. But I bet you still use the scroll – I mean – the noob wheel like a NOOBlord. BOOM! WHAT’S UP NOW BROOOOO?”

As a matter of fact I did say this to a guy in class once and my teacher sent me to ISD (detention) because she had mistaken ‘noob’ for ‘boobs’.

Anyway, the point is CTF was one of the many factors that helped turn me into a gangster - or the teenage white kid equivalent of Will Smith – at least I like to think it did.

Humor aside, CTF is fun and it took a lot of stress off the table when, after finishing my stupid Biology report, I could kick back and pwn some scrubs on CTF with over powered classes. Then after doing that I could jump on Skype and have a good time with my team mates on TRF and have a little more fun that way. However, it also gave me something to do during boring lectures in class aside from stare at various girls’ butts the whole time. For example:

My biology teacher: “Today class we are going to learn about photosynthesis – photosynthesis is the process that a plant does when it converts light and C02 for energy to the plant and releases oxygen to sustain the environment…”

Me pretending to pay attention while reliving yesterday’s CTF game: 21 killstreak? WHOO! I stomped your ass!

My biology teacher: “Isn’t this exciting class?”

    Me: Hell yeah!

I never thought Biology class could be interesting but believe me, once CTF came into my life my whole WORLD changed for the better. Instead of living in this same old dull reality I could log into CTF and delve into its world of possibilities all night long.

That is why CTF is the Morgan Freeman of McPVP’s game modes. Its fun, it’s communal, it’s quick to play and above all, it gives me chills when I play it. Much like how I have the same temptation to applaud every time Morgan Freeman appears on screen I have the same temptation to applaud myself on being the best every time I kill someone with Mage.

I typed this post because there are too many negative messages out there about CTF. People are calling it and our community ‘annoying’ and ‘bad’. The funny thing is, I hear those exact words being said about OneDirection – because they actually are – and that’s weird to me because CTF is nothing like OneDirection!

Think about all the things that are good about CTF for a moment:

-Future combat training. Someone tries to jump you in an alley some day? Use those mad strafing skills you learned while playing Mage in CTF. Trust me, unless they’ve played CTF too they won’t be able to handle it.

-CTF teaches teamwork. Much like how Morgan Freeman taught the Springbok soccer team teamwork in Invictus CTF teaches you those same invaluable skills. So put this down on your resume kids when the employer asks for your interpersonal skills: “I don’t put up with d-ckbags, I bring people together”. And how do you do this? Because of all the teamwork skills you learned when you went Medic.

-CTF gives you something to do aside from that homework. Why do your homework when you could play CTF? Remember, CTF encourages teamwork – a valuable life skill – which actually helps you prepare a lot more for real life than all that school work does. Think about it, will your future employer really care if you know all the parts of the Unit Circle? Probably not.

-CTF discourages racism. No matter what team you are on, whatever your creed – red or blue – you are equal. That is the greatness of this game-mode! It brings people together instead of tearing them apart!

This positive message was brought to you by,

    -Admiral

What? Where on earth did you get the impression that this thread was about me? This thread is not simply the story of my life, rather it is a positive message about all the good that CTF can do and does do for people and the community.

How dare you laugh at my effort of positive reinforcement - begone heathen!

I agree with this post in more ways than one. CTF made life a little better for this awkward kid in High School. Just somewhere I was able to vent and just relax sometimes made life a little more barely.

Archer on CTF was only of the first times in my live where I could say I was "good" at anything in video games and playing it for so long helped me understand the basics of pretty much any FPS. Also CTF pretty much introduced me to Skype and in turn helps me actually talk to people instead of living lonely everyday.

Yeah there are times where it makes me want to rip my hair out or times when it made me feel like **** sometimes but those moments are far too outweighed by all the good, Honestly I can't imagine my life without CTF sometimes.

I may have some disagreements there, but other than that I can kind of relate to this.
