CTF maybe?

i dont usually see randoms posting in the ctf forums like this so im just gonna take the time and give you some advice to be a little less nooby on the go, youll be triple as popular and will have way more fun.

Gameplay in general

Dont be that uncool guy who tries glitching through some wall when you could be doing your team a favor and supporting your flag carrier or recovering/defending your flag.
Dont let it be your goal to let your team's flag carrier die so you can pick up the flag, it ends up not working out. always.
when you see a flag carrier of your team hollering for a medic, respawn and heal him, even with that sweet six archer killstreak.

Also, KDR DOESN'T MATTER. unless you are archer. none of the pros will look at your stats and therefore determine whether you're good or not. if they see you ingame and you heal them, they know you're not that much of a randy ^^

The classes

heavy: do whatever you want, but realize you can just about pvp every class out there to death. so if you dont know how to recover off an enemy with low mobility (not enderpearling ninja or wall-climbing soldier), heavy is a pretty solid way of recovery. also, you survive just about anything at defense, so youre good to be a consistant factor there, too.

soldier: mainly for capturing, but you can also recover off of soldiers with it. it has less armor and a weaker sword than heavies, so you shouldnt use it for plain pvp. right-click your sword against a wall or a block in general to fly up a bit, test out that mechanic, get used to it^^ soldier is a class it's somewhat easy to get somewhere with, so if you want to start capturing, try that

medic: HEAL. medic is good for pvp because of the high amount of steak it has, and it is also good against those pesky pyro insta-killers. but way more important: HEAL YOUR OWN TEAMMATES. you do this by hitting them with your sword. heal them until the heart thing shows 20, and then hit them again - they get all their steak back!
especially flag carriers. heal them. youre gonna be awesome if you do.

archer: good for pvping, mainly. you can snipe (oneshot) people from a distance. also flag carriers. you will end up battling archers most of the time i guess, but if you want to do your team a favor and see a flag carrier around, try to snipe him anyway o;

general: steak heals 4 hearts, use as you would use soup in other pvp modes.

capture the flag is not kitbrawl. if you want to plain pvp without those instakillers, or those premium classes, go somewhere else. but no other gamemode is as awesome

i personally wont ever get away from ctf, although i am pretty disappointed of it sometimes and rant quite a lot on the forums.. the next day i go back to ctf anyway.

 

• What can I expect from CTF? A fun minigame on Brawl in which you can have many friends (and foes), joining teams and play matches (official and unofficial).
• Is it fun from your experiences? I wouldn't play for 3-4 years if it wouldn't be fun
• Should I keep on play it? I think this choice lies with you, we can advice you to do stuff but the eventual decision is in your hands. I think that if you'd play CTF more, you'll be getting in the community and you will enjoy CTF even more. And I'd like to see you in the game as well, new CTF'ers are always fun

To answer your questions most honest:

//what can I expect from CTF?// This kind of depends on what you're doing in game. In general you can expect some good amusement time to time, because we have the finest trolls (mathiaslindberg, boomdrone & liona). Don't expect too much from playing objective, this has become utterly boring over the years, because the CTF games are way to short now and had become solo oriëntated. This ofcourse does not apply when you join a CTF team, where objective is indeed fun. Ofcourse that is a relative matter, because you could be one of those few people who get a kick from ghostcapping. Also in general you could expect lots of fun from plain killwhoring, using the classes to get as many kills as possible.

//is CTF fun from your experience// it depends. I liked CTF a lot more 2 years ago, but I still enjoy it. The chats can be very fun, but ofcourse you have exceptions like tryhard mods who will mute you for disliking a map. Or people who want to report the entertainment (trolls). Most enjoyable CTF things in my opinion are the teams and the killwhoring.

know this, always:

• dont say the word kit or get flamed by the so called ctf professionals
• kit is like saying the N word
• ignore /a chat. you won't need it. (mod/admin messages show in team chat right lol??)
• being too nice will make you look like a mod tryhard
• we complain about anything, everything, even the spoon in your kitchen.
• if you see the words: wool, boomdrone, KollVenk, cup song, balance, map wave. grab some popcorn!
• noone quits for real, they come back on their alts.
• don't change your ign to trending anime character minecraft name every month
• dont share your thoughts on game balance in /a chat, nobody cares.

all u need to play this game, skill? nah u dont need it.

 

community:
u will generally see the bad side of the community in game. most people who aren't annoying dont really talk in chat so that just leaves the same few people arguing. im sure, if you play a few games a day for a week or so, you will definitely encounter the people i am talking about.

you have 2 options with these people:
1. engage in the argument and realise that was a mistake because they are bigots who will just flame you when you make valid points
2. ignore them and live happily ever after

gameplay:
soon enough you will realise that there are maps which favour one class particularly.

you have 2 options now:
1. join those classes
2. try to fight against them but die a lot, then join those classes

you will also encounter pyro, chemist and archer.
against chemist: you die because it is really op
against pyro: you die because it is really op
against archer: you die because it is really op

defense is generally a lot easier than offense but you will probably become recognised as a good player quicker if you play offense more. with defense, try to avoid being cheap. if you are uncertain what is cheap and what is not cheap then i would refer to this thread. these are the things that are always banned in matches. there's no obligation to abide by them in regular games but it is good etiquette to do so.

unless i want to tryhard i generally play ctf with my friends. when tryharding, make sure your team has semi-competent players or you will get annoyed quickly because nobody is doing anything. when messing around with friends, try to avoid doing stuff that has a negative impact on the game.

guide to freeday:
freeday can often be the most annoying thing ever. you basically have no chance of capping because everyone has premium classes. i'd advise going by the status quo and just kill people at mid or defend because that is basically the only way you will enjoy the game

The injustices of CTF is what makes the game addicting, and rage inducing.
