Its pretty much slack with voice channels, which is pretty much perfect

If everyone else gets it so there's more than 10 people then I'll definitely use this more than Skype

The way I see it, there's nothing Skype has that we would miss out on with discord (PM's may be better on skype but they work on discord and will probably get better as it's still new and improving), whereas discord has advantages (easier on comp, mobile app isn't ****) that are significant and probably won't be added to Skype as far as I know. Discord is also new and getting lots of features added while Skype has been pretty much the same for a long time. Since it's so easy to switch to discord, I'd say it's worth it.

I've seen discord, and it's pretty cool and easy to use, however it would be quite a shift from skype to Discord

TeamTeamTeam is the first official team to start using Discord as it's main platform for communicating and team organization. Don't know how I'm gonna do it just yet, but we will most likely start recruiting with Discord in the near future.

I've been a big advocator for Teamspeak over Skype, but Discord seems like something that could be the best of both worlds. I'll definitely try it out!

I went to get it on my computer and I saw a Linux version being developed! I wish everyone could switch over from skype to this because the last time skype for linux was updated was like 3-5 years ago or something like that xD.

    Discord is very legit.
You could even put separate chat and voice servers for the different teams.

I saw this thread the day it was put up but I haven't had the time to say how I feel about it

Personally, I don't think I'd ever join Discord and if I did I would be extremely inactive or quiet(a lot more than I am normally.). I like to keep my tabs and pages/windows to a minimum and if I had to choose between Skype and Discord, it would be Skype all the way. This is probably mainly because I don't like to check chats 24/7 to see whats going on. If I'm having both Skype and Discord going off at once, I'm gonna have to choose one of the two. There's lots of things Discord can do for us but the problem is because Skype is so well used by everyone on the Internet, I feel Discord will just turn into how teamspeak is for me(and I'm guessing everyone else)- occasionally people are on it but it's not often. I also don't like learning new interfaces often especially if there is another application/thing that does the same thing or better that I already know and have been using.
(Another personal thing: It took me a long time to switch to Skype from AIM and the only reason was because of Skype's video calling and voice calling features.)

I don't know if there are others like me out there with this stance, but Discord to me seems not really needed since we already have an application most of us use which is Skype. There might be a small community on Discord but I seriously doubt hundreds of people in the minecraft community in general switching over to Discord together. Its highly unlikely because I remember when people thought we/the minecraft community would switch over to teamspeak.

tl;dr: I'm not for Discord because of how many people use Skype and the probability of the minecraft community as a whole migrating over is highly unlikely.

If youre not active in the CTF community then I would advise not to join the discord group to be honest, but for those who are active and do wish to be close knit with CTFers I'd advise trying it out. I'd never think Id get all of Minecraft to switch, but getting 60 CTFers in is a huge accomplishment in my eyes by now.

@Nalasleafheart I never understood why Skype became popular for gaming to be honest. It uses up a lot resources, and there have always been better services.

Personally I don't mind having multiple notifications (I usually run Steam, Skype, and Teamspeak/Mumble on at the same time), but if you don't want to deal with that I guess it's fine.

Skype grew in popularity in the gaming community as it was an alternative to Ventrilo which only had VoIP but lacked instant messaging which was seen as god-tier back in '04 and '05.
