It is futile, as there your opinions hold no value and the applicant can simply delete your post.

Though it may seem like a good idea at first, flame wars do break out which is why it was removed in the first place.

With the amount of forums reports that come in daily, I think the flame wars could be taken care of.

Staff members exist to moderate community behavior and enforce server rules, not to represent community opinion on staff applications. It's ridiculous to suggest that public comment shouldn't be allowed because some community members may be spoken for by a particular staff member or members.

Why should community opinion be relegated to a profile page instead of the actual application? What's wrong with allowing people to express their views in a more public space (and without a character limit)?

Everyone should have an equal right to express their opinion, especially when it comes to staff since they are the people who are most tuned-in to changes made for the server(s) that the community plays on. I do not see why you have a problem with that.

Flame wars are why we have the 'report' button.

I agree with @Dankmastr_Memesn here, I think everyone should have an equal right to express their opinion, not least because they're the people you would ultimately be moderating once you become a staff member. They should have an important chance to comment on those people potentially going to be moderating them.

I agree that Wiki Team members and Builders should be allowed to comment on applications due to the fact that they are counted as staff. However, I don't think that all players should be allowed to comment. I'd be open to the idea of letting certain players comment, as long as there was regulation as to who those people are.
