No. This isn't directed at you and honestly I've never really had any trouble with you. This thread isn't really meant to call out any specific person (Beleive me, I would've) but more to ask a question.

Is it really so difficult for a mod to ask if there's a problem before warning/muting someone?

I guess this is more of a context question. If there is light banter, the kind that usually goes on between friends, a moderator should just make sure everything is fine if they really can't tell (for some reason). But, if the kind of conversation that happens between the two friends is enough to warrent a mute, the friendship should be re-evaluated, not the moderators.

Yes, they don't have to ask if everything is fine, but it would seem to be the best policy to ask if there is actually a fight happening if the mod really can't tell. It seems to be the smart thing to do, no?

Like I said, this not necessary. The mods only have to act upon what happens, if people are flaming, even if it is in a "funny" way, they are punishable.

But aren't these rules reinforced because it is hurtful to other people in the community? If what you say is considered disrespect, but because it's meant as a joke and the person that it's being directed to isn't offended or anything, I don't see why the player who said something that seems disrespectful should be muted.

Flame in general could be bad for other people to see, not just the person it's being said to.
