It's been a LONG time since I last wrote up one of these threads. I can only apologise for the massive delay (yes, here come the excuses). A lot of us have been considerably busy due to exam periods, holidays and basic inactivity. We plan on fully revamping the team with matches every week, but before that happens, we really need to tie up the loose ends of the last tournament. That means writing this issue, with matches that took place 2 months ago. Hope you don't mind! (it's certainly been a while in the making). I'm going to be posting more of these threads from now on (provided the writers help me with the reports) so expect to see more in the near future! Without further ado:

    Tournament Results!
Congratulations to all the teams that participated in the tournament, and you all did a fantastic job. However, whilst all teams played well, some managed to rise above the rest and finish highly in the tournament. This section is dedicated to the teams that managed to finish within the top 3!

    Third Place: The Crusaders!
Our third place team were The Crusaders (also known as the Toxic Crusaders). Everyone saw TC as underdogs coming into the competition, but they more than managed to hold their own. Despite an early loss to the Black Knights in the group stages, they quickly cleared up against the other two in their group, Unity and Totally not Solar eclipse. This was down to their impressive strategic performances, especially on blackout where they seemed to dominate almost every other team. This quickly earned them a place in the semi finals. Despite their best efforts, they were unable to beat Defiance and so ended up battling annihilation for third place. Despite Annihilations strong PVP skills and history of beating TC, they managed to up-end the odds and successfully claim that third place spot. You guys managed to not only prove many people wrong, but also cement yourselves as a force to be reckoned with on the team scene. Congratulations on your strong performance!

    Second Place: The Black Knights!
Originally formed on MCPVP, and recently reformed on brawl, The Black Knights (2.0) were favourites to win the tournament from the very start. Every member of the team possess strong PVP skills and good strategic knowledge of the game. From the get-go they used these advantages to their benefit, dominating their earlier matches. Totally Not Solar Eclipse and Unity despite great efforts were steamrolled, and even the might of The Crusaders could not prevent a victory in favour of The Black Knights. Even going into the semi-finals, Annihilation were also dominated, meaning they had quickly earned themselves a place in the finals of the first MSW tournament. During the final, they fought immensely hard, with some incredible performances from all of their players. However, as hard as they fought, ultimately Defiance managed to end their streak. This should not take anything away from the scale of their achievements however. The Black Knights have proven with this tournament they are to be taken seriously, with incredible ability and will definitely be among the favourites to win future tournament as well! We look forward to seeing them play again very soon!

    First Place: Defiance!
So, we come to our 1st place team, Defiance. Defiance was another relative underdog in the competition. They were expected to do well, though not win overall. Defiance, much like the black knights, boasted a roster of strong PVPers, and this showed from the get-go. They managed to dominate all of the teams in their bracket (annihilation, the adventurers and Morimur invictus) quickly cementing their place in the tournament semi-final. Facing The crusaders proved a massive challenge for the team, but ultimately due to some tight strategic work, Defiance managed to win and secure their position in the tournament final. The match vs the black knights proved no easier, and went down to the wire in a 5 map game. However, once again due to some strong PVP and strategic performances, Defiance managed to beat the competition to the top spot. They consistently put out strong performances in each and every one of their matches and prove a worthy winner of the first MSW invitational tournament! Congratulations guys and we look forward to seeing if you can keep the top spot next time!

There you have it! The top three finishing teams of the tournament! Congratulations to all of you and let's see if you can keep those spots, or do even better, next time!

Defiance vs The Black Knights by @Dragoarg7
Coming into the tourney finals, both teams are looking very strong. During the semifinal round, BK managed to swiftly beat Anni, where Defiance was looking like they were having a little bit of trouble with TC. Defiance, though winning, still managed to bounce back, by defeating RR, who was known as one of the three best teams. This, as well as a huge confidence boost for Defy, could be a little scary for BK. BK had recently lost Chiimichanga, and JayOG, two major players for them. Although BK managed to delay the tournament by two or three more weeks waiting for their star defensive player, LeDoener, to come back. Coming into the finals both teams looked strong, and it was shaping up to be a good match!

The first map is Opposites Collide Version 5. Defiance has shown amazing success on this map, the last two officials where they played it were both 3-0s, so they looked amazingly strong. BK although, also will play this map very well. Participated steals in one and a half minutes and gets very far very easy, although ningeek also manages to steal the flag for BK, although nin is medic compared to Parts heavy. Participated ignored Epeek, who was playing ninja, which was a terrible mistake, because it leads to his death. Ningeek also goes down to eeyore on soldier. A minute later Part steals again, and gets far. He kills epic, and his team kills the pyro that ended up in front of him. He almost gets it but a clutch assassinate from Unifier stops the attempt, which would have been a cap otherwise. Juli3n gets out as soldier, while Raging gets out as chemist, but gets killed from damage. Scape is taking the flag up top with no recovery following him, and Defiance gets a first cap at 5 minutes. Scape once again gets out 30 seconds later, but this time as a chemist. Scape with help of his team, gets another capture within one minute. Kriz gets another steal but gets stopped early, and BK offense isn’t having much luck. Scape goes out as chemist and makes it top, but dies early to a pyro, and part gets a free steal, he makes the mistake of heading top, although he was pressured into it by a defensive heavy on BK. Doener has no problem at all recovering twice in that quarrel. Daniell gets to the back staircase as medic, but gets frozen and chunked, but he gets a really good pass off to scape who was chemist again. Scape gets attacked by 7 members of BK who were top, and dies, but part gets a free steal bot and finishes the map 3-0 very quickly for Defiance.

This map is Pagodas. This team can swing either way, and typically counters both teams main play styles, but the map could go either way. Coca and Kriz both steal within a minute, but cocas medic is assassinated, and he ends up headshot by Slayway, and both teams get recoveries. Participated dodges out the frenzy of Doener as soldier and gets a steal right up to the medic. Participated runs down middle with about two steak left, but BK sends double ninjas off at him. Unifier gets a sneaky assassinate to stop what probably could have been a cap. Coca gets another steal but Uni gets good places in the trees to get assassinates off. Raging gets a good steal and gets past most of the defense, but gets out damaged by the defense of Defy. Coca gets out pretty clean, but gets headshot before getting anyway. Both offense seem to be struggling a little bit. Nin gets out but gets headshot, and both archers are amazingly annoying to their opposing offenses. Coca steals and distracts for long enough for Part to get a clean steal. After dying, Raging gets a picture perfect steal and makes it mid, before he is headshot. Unifier picks up as chemist this time, and BK’s push is still going on. In the meantime, Coca steals again, and gets to BK’s spawn, possibly opening up a stalemate. Coca dies to damage, and Unifier gets the first cap of the map. Afterwards, all of Defiances offense manages to kill the entire flagroom and stay alive. Coca gets out, and has a medic. Coca gets to mid. Coca is running and there is almost no recovering on the way. Doener races to the flag, but gets beat by Coca and the map gets tied. Ningeek steals as medic again, and gets fairly far, but Defiance gets a lot of recovery onto him. Unifier steals as medic, but dies. Coca gets out but has no steak, He goes under the tunnels, Coca takes the tunnel and gets far, but straight falls off the map and dies. Participated gets very clean with a medic, and is far, but is being cut off. Three minutes left in the map, and both teams have had only one good steal. With two minutes the game seems to be wanting to die off in peace with a tie. Kriz steals and makes it very far. He gets a medic with two ninjas and a soldier on him. Kriz goes down to damage, and the capture is prevented. The match comes to an end with 30 seconds left, and no one being able to get across in time.

Now is time for the agreed pick. Both teams picks had ended, with Defiance being 3 captures up. Thanks to blackout being 5 caps, it is entirely possible for BK to win, even if Defiance were to 3-0 on Airlock. For airlock, BK subs back in their mage main. Both teams like to run pvp offenses and defenses, so it can be very dangerous. Participated gets out very early, and gets out of the flagroom, but then is killed. Raging gets a steal about two minutes in, clearing out most of the flag room of Defiance. On their way out, Kriz crits out the pyro before there is a recovery, Raging lives long, killing many ninjas. He dies after a long run. A minute later Kriz kills Spexon again, and Raging gets a clean steal with Kriz alongside. He eventually goes down to damage from Z_Hobo. Coca makes it out of the flag room as soldier and climbs on top, saving himself from the people below. He died of poison damage on top, with an unlucky death leading in a recovery. Ningeek steals right after as medic, webbing one heavy and far ahead of another. Prank switched off of medic, so no one can catch up to him. Nin gets in front of everyone else, and eventually gets a medic capture 6 and a half minutes into the game. Participated steals half a minute later, getting knocked forward very far. He switched to heavy by now, He gets cut off at a choke point, and dies to damage. Daniel switches off medic to soldier, and gets the flag clean, but claims around awkwardly in the flag room. He dies quickly. A little later and after some small skirmishes, Kriz switches to soldier and steals. He gets out of the map, and is on top. It will be hard to recover for Defiance, unless they can get a pyro with frenzy to the only entrance back in for Kriz. He ends up dying of poison, but Raging is there to pick up as soldier. He gets a lot of support, and Raging gets the second cap for BK. On the back half, Cyber gets out of the flag room untouched as heavy, but dies to double ninjas. Kriz gets out, but quickly gets crit out by Spexon. Defiance defense is showing weak points on this map, and their offense is not getting a whole lot of work done either. After a minute Coca gets a nice steal off, but gets frenzy and assassinated, so he goes down without support. Raging as soldier gets a very nice steal off, and gets to mid after being medic healed to full restore. He gets followed by Prank, and jukes him out. But Prank then crits him out. Scape gets out as soldier, with lots of support. Cyber steals as heavy and makes it to BK flag room. Scape drops with Prank picking up the flag as soldier, with a stalemate being born. The stale mate looks very uneventful, with double ninjas from BK, and a whole force from Defy. It would be better for Defy to recover this than for BK. With 25 seconds in the game, spexon gets to Cyber, and actually frenzies her to death. With 22 seconds, Defy takes the cap, and keeps their capture lead.

Now the game is tied 1-1 in maps, but Defance is up two capture. That could easily change in the next map, blackout, which gives 5 captures max. 30 seconds in, Coca already steals as pyro. He gets medic and full restore, Coca gets mid, while Raging steals on the side of BK. We start blackout with a stale mate ladies and gents. In the 3-week-delayed final match, on the most decisive map possibly of the game. Slayway is getting very good positioning, and is not pressured enough. Ch4os actually manages to headshot Raging, but flag is picked up by Nin as medic. Nin lives through it all, but they try to pass without checking for ninjas well enough, which ends in Prank getting the invisible recovery. Defiance gets the first capture after 5 minutes and a 3 minute stale mate. Nin gets out as medic right after, but takes a bad route and dies. Coca gets out again, but gets head shot immediately. Later on, eeyore gets out as medic, but has a lot of recovery and a ninja on her. After she dies, Coca tries to go in as elf, but dies as well. Eeyore actually gets past all of the recovery for BK, looking very much like a capture. Raging steals to stop but push, but gets headshot, and recovered, and eeyore caps. If Defiance keeps it like this they win. BK offense has been struggling all map long, but it doesn’t seem like a huge problem. Eeyore gets a third steal, but goes down quickly. Part steals again, but is headshot, and eeyore gets the flag. She makes it down mid, but there is medic teaming, yet the call does not be dealt with immediately, and eeyore gets the third capture. But it gets called out by Miskey, and the capture is removed. Eeyore gets a free steal while everyone else is being dealt with. She webs herself and is assassinated. On the other end, raging steals, dies, and Cyber picks up. She dies because Coca spams earth on her. Nin jukes through and gets mid, and then passes to Epeek, who is soldier. Eeyore steals but does’t look to be getting far at all. Eeyore actually manages to get out, and gets healed. There is a stalemate with advantage BK, because of soldier versus a medic. There is a lot of recovery for BK, but this medic a living a long time. They manage to keep her alive even more. After a many attempts, BK sends a ninja and a heavy, which finally out damages the medic, and then BK gets another capture. Coca steals as soon as Nin steals, and Coca dodges all of the pyro damage. Both carriers are recovered off of quickly though. Many other attempts happen, with not a lot of luck. After clearing the pyro, Nin gets out of the flag room and runs it down, but is HS in his own web, and Part gets out of the flag room. He dies, as Cyber steals as soldier. She runs up the side and is very far. She gets over and to a medic, to tie the map 2-2. Cyber steals again a minuet later, with eeyore getting another steal on the other side, this time as soldier. Another stalemate almost happens, but a headshot on Cyber gives Nin the flag, and Epeek manages to solo out eeyore, resulting in the recovery. A huge offense is met by a huge defense in BK flag room, but eeyore gets out as soldier being healed through frenzy by scape on medic. She jukes around and is out. She gets to the top of mid, with a minute left. She gets to flag room but Nin steals. He goes spawn side, and dies to a ninja, giving eeyore the cap and keeping the map a tie. Raging steals after everyone in the flag room dies, and then Part also steals, with more health than Raging. The game ends in a stale mate.

Now is the final map of the game, and the one with the most pressure on both teams. Defiance actually still has a two cap lead, so BK needs to win the map in order to win the game. This map is decent for a lot of classes, and there is an archer debate on to whether it’s useful. Defy gets an early steal, and dies, then eeyore steals again. But then she dies. Scape gets out of the flag room as medic, and tries to get on one of the sponges. He jukes back and cuts through mid, giving him a speed advantage. Part and Kriz get twin steals, but Kriz gets out very far ahead. Coca gets to him and kills him with damage. Part also dies to the pyro. Juli3n and Nin get twin steals this time, and both are medic. Nin unfortunately gets killed, while scape gets farther. Scape gets very far, but dies to assassin. The teams are battling for steals, when scape gets it as soldier. He goes to the side but is knocked off. The map is very quiet, and there is no steals for a few minutes. Raging steals as heavy, and gets fairly far with support. He gets killed to straight damage. Part steals with 6 minutes and then a pyro kill, so he is pretty clean. He goes under but is frenzied. Raging steals the flag again, as soldier, and is fairly far. He gets recovered on, to end the excitement of BK. Prank steals the flag as soldier. He gets past mid, and almost caps, but Epeek steals. Epeek gets recovered on, but before Prank could steal, Nin grabs the flag and gets out of the flag room. He gets a little far, but then goes down fairly quickly to damage. There is 4 minutes left, and BK needs 2 caps to win the game. Defiance bunkers down, because BK is not having much luck at all. BK sends a huge offensive force, but Defiance has an even huger defense. There is currently two players in the flag room for BK. The game ends, with BK not trying, realizing that 2 caps in 1 minute is impossible with recovery and the tourney finals ends with a very quiet game.

    Final Scores:
    3-0 Defy
    1-1 Tie
    2-1 BK
    2-2 Tie
    1-0 Defy
    Overall: Defiance Win!
