Teams are groups of CTF players looking to work together to beat other teams, get to know more people in the CTF community, get better at the game, or just have fun with other players.

    1. Head over the the teams forum category to find teams that are recruiting (a list of all recruiting / official teams can be found here). Although not all teams are recruiting, most will be. Some teams may be at a max of 25 players and be unable to recruit more.
    2. If the team is recruiting, find their application process and apply. Each team has their own process of applying (an application to fill out, PMing the team leader or representative, etc) and different requirements to join the team, or no requirements at all. If you’re accepted, the team will tell you what to do from there.

Before making your own team, we strongly recommend participating in an existing team to get a feel for the responsibilities and requirements of a team leader/representative. The role requires responsibility and activity, whether it’s in-game, on the forums, or on Discord. If you feel you're ready:

In order to make an official team, you must have a moderator on the CTF Committee approve your team. To do this, you may contact them through a private means of communication, such as Discord or a direct message on the forums. Include the following information when contacting a mod:
    • A list of your 10-25 members
    • Your team’s name
    • Your team’s representative (see roles section for info)
    • A link to your team’s thread in the CTF Teams section
Once your team becomes official, you will need to take the following steps:
    1. Contact a moderator to have your post moved to the Official Teams subforum. This may not happen instantly, due to how thread moderation functions, but should occur within the day.
    2. Your team’s representative should contact a moderator to be added to the ‘CTF Teams Representative Chat’ discord if they have not been already. A team must have a representative in the server at all times to be considered official.
Make sure your forum thread is up to date! Anytime a member changes their name, or the team switches representatives, be sure to make the appropriate change on the thread as well.

    Leader
    • Not required
    • Responsibilities (may) include:
      • Making team decisions
      • Creating the team's thread
      • Handling the team's recruitment process
Player(s) in the leadership position. Leaders are usually given responsibility to have the final say in what happens to the team, create the team thread, or handle the recruitment process. Responsibilities and leadership structure varies per team.

    Representative
    • Required (1)
    • Responsibilities include:
      • Being a member of the Representative Discord chat
      • Planning matches
      • Handling relations with other teams
A single player chosen to represent the team in the Team Representative discord chat. For this reason, all representatives must have a discord account for ease of communication (please note, you are not required to join calls). All official teams MUST have a representative, as they will be the ones planning matches. The leader and the representative can be the same player, but it is not required.

    Member
    • Required (10 to 25)
    • Responsibilities:
      • Be cool
Members make up the bulk of a team. They can participate in official and unofficial matches. Note: Members may be divided up further per team set-up. A player must be publicly removed from one roster's thread (if they were on a team) and added to another 24 hours prior to the scheduled start time of a match to participate in it. You can message anyone SMod+ or the Owner of the thread to get this done.

    Mercenary
    • Not required
    • Responsibilities:
      • Be cool
Players able to play in unofficial matches only.

Note: One player, one team. A player (including alternate accounts) cannot be a member on multiple teams. If you wish to be on multiple teams at once, apply to be a mercenary.

When scheduling a match, the representative of your team must communicate with the representative of another team to agree on rules and guidelines for the match, such as:
    • Type of Match
      • There are multiple types of matches, each with their own specific requirements. Descriptions of the various types can be found here.
    • Date / Time for the Match
      • Make sure that both teams understand when the match will occur, because you may be either playing with or against players in different timezones. When posting a thread, it is often helpful to list the start time as it would appear in multiple timezones (such as GMT and EST).
    • Rules
      • MMR (Mandatory Match Rules) are necessary in every official match. More info on MMR and its updates can be found here.
      • Class limits are often set on certain classes to restrict how many each team can use / how they can use them.
    • Player Restrictions
      • A match size is set to give each team a player limit. The lowest possible size for an official CTF Match is a 5v5.
      • In unofficial matches, teams may set limits to how many mercenaries each team may use, although these are not required.
    • Maps
      • To be considered official, at least 3 maps must be played in a given match. Of those, each team’s representative selects a map of their choice (some restrictions apply), and the final map is agreed upon by the 2 representatives organizing the match. Official matches that contain more than 3 maps may not follow this structure if given committee approval. If the agreed map is not selected within 5 minutes of the match’s scheduled start time, the moderator reffing the match will select it instead.
Once both representatives agree on the information above, a forums post must be made in the Matches section the CTF Teams subforum. It does not matter who makes the thread, but since the information on the match thread is often subject to change, we encourage teams to have a responsible and active member post the thread so they can post edits and revisions ASAP. Furthermore, the match must be scheduled on the CTF Match spreadsheet, a resource that will become available to representatives once they join the discord server.

On the match post, all of the above information must be present, along with the player rosters from each team.

Official matches must have a moderator from the CTF Teams Committee referee the match, so it is encouraged to ask moderators in advance (days or weeks even), as they may have time conflicts if this request is made on short notice.

    Player Disputes
If a player has some sort of problem (whether that be with another player, a team, a rule or regulation, etc.) that cannot be resolved on its own, contact a moderator on discord or PM on the forums, and we’ll look into the issue and hopefully resolve it.

    Punishments
Players who fail to follow match-specific rules during an official match will usually receive a warning for their first offense. Continued violation of these rules can result in a player’s temporary or permanent removal from a match at the referee’s discretion. Depending on the situation and a given player’s conduct, further punishment may occur.

Failure to abide by match rules or display good sportsmanship can result in a strike (more information found here). These can occur on the level of an individual player (player strikes) or a whole team (team strikes) depending on the circumstances. Strike appeal forms can be found here.

A player is also able to receive restrictions for certain server-wide punishments. More info on restrictions can be found here. All server-wide rules are enforced during matches, and violations will be handled as they would be otherwise.

And that's it! Go join a team and have fun. Was something not covered? Still confused? Feel free to leave questions / comments below!

    Happy CTFing! [IMG]
