tl;dr - demoted for inactivity (deserved), won't be on brawl:



Well, today I finally got demoted for inactivity after being mod for about ~2.5 years on brawl. I've been expecting the PM for a while, so I guess the inevitable happened. I won't be playing on brawl at all probably (especially because I didn't play as mod... and haven't legitimately played for about 6 months), but I like browsing the forums and discord so you can see me there. I figured I'd include some details and tags in my outro, so I'll just mention things here and there I've wanted to mention here and there (sorry if it's disorganized). I don't have anything to lose, so I finally get to be 100% honest.

Why did you stay mod even though you didn't play?



Despite what people think, @tallscot s response to that was spot on.



Basically, while I didn't like the server or the game anymore, the staff team chat and having access to knowing about brawl happenings like cool updates was definitely worth it. Honestly, I don't see why people resign in the current system as there literally is no incentive for me to do so. It makes sense for me to stay mod and talk to people on the server once in a while.


Biggest Brawl Accomplishments

I've done a lot (before 2017 when I really became inactive), so I feel I get a right to brag about those things. Here's what I'm proud of:

• Earning brawl $700+ in unban fees. Most of these bans were on the old ban page and can't be viewed anymore, but I kept track myself. These came from x-ray bans on raid/spvp
• Making the build team public. Prior to brawl, MCPVP had a private build team that was exclusive and based on connections, not merit. I pushed for there to be a public application system, and now we have builders that we never would have had. Also, I eventually managed the build team, and other related matters that didn't work out so well.
• Helping make the wildwest map. That is such a cool project, and I'm glad I took part in it. Hopefully the next project in the works (that I didn't have a chance to significantly contribute to) looks just as good
• "Reviving" creative temporarily. When the CMs became mostly inactive, I handled most of the other applications and other miscellaneous things.

Confessions

Hey, if I put this in the middle, nobody will read it!

The big one: I lied on my staff application. Contrary to most people's views except the few veterans left, I was a pretty major troll and general ****head on mcpvp. But, when that shut down, I got a chance to be whitelisted on private build here by @rhoske - and so I cleaned up my act and applied for moderator.



This paragraph is completely grade A bull**** I came up with in a TS channel with Cuddled, and I definitely did fake that screenshot (i was salty). I legit thought I could get a mod demoted at the time, and this was probably ~3 months before I applied for moderator. Proof: All the MCPVP Build Staff voted No on my application, but thankfully (lol) didn't say anything. (The person actually was a mod on brawl at one point - RyanAnnie)

I really shouldn't have gotten accepted if anyone saw half the stuff I said and did on MCPVP, but I stayed and proved my worth. This also leads to one aside:

Yes, players can become mature and change within a month unlike the opinion of most of the staff team.

Other minor things:

I placed signs and my head on the brawl maps that never got caught (take that @Lord_Roke now you can't message me) by anyone (I don't remember exactly where, but I'd keep it private anyway to preserve my legacy in some odd corners of brawl maps).

To see if an admin is reading this, I also still have the build team rank on TS.

I use ublock on brawl and make filters for the red boxes.

Finally, when evaluating applications (both voting on staff apps and build/creative), I definitely was slightly biased if you were friendly towards me and not annoying. But, I feel like that's every staff member

Why isn't the server fun anymore?

A long time ago, this used to be the only game I played, and it was the first one. I got the game in early 2012, and played MCPVP. The hunger games, sabotage, CTF, and everything else. Even brawl stuff like WarZ was fun. Honestly, it's hard to pinpoint, but I'd say the two major things are:

• People got wayyyy too good and clever at taking advantage (cheats). Yeah. Take a look at any of the videos from people like Serilum and oib5 for mcpvp 2012 HG. Hotkeying was all you needed. Now, the line between hackers and legit players has completely blended (vape, ghost clients, etc) - and people even edit their windows registries to get a small advantage.
  • Also, this leads to stuff like screen sharing coming up. Screen sharing is really where I started to notice this trend - this would sound completely absurd to someone playing the game in 1.2.5 where nodus was the primary client and people mostly used obvious stuff like fly.
• The minecraft update dilemma. Minecraft updates used to be pretty hyped for me, but because servers stayed on old versions like 1.8 and 1.7, I never really got a chance to try out the new stuff. It eventually just got stale.
• Lack of players. Seriously, I come on and there's often less than 100 people on. Things like battle royale could've been fun.
  • BUT, stop suggesting "advertising" as a solution - it's NOT as simple as that. Either: every server does it and it's not worth it, OR it's way too expensive. By the way, if you're actually reading the whole thread, PM me a picture of a carrot (just seeing how many people closely read). All you're doing is farming positive ratings from the community by making those threads.

@chickenputty - You do a lot for the server. I'll give you that. I expected brawl to shut down without you taking over. The only critique I have is that you keep making slack announcements that mods shouldn't "mess around" or use staff commands for "fun", but then I see you spawning mobs in the lobby, making parkour, and doing exactly what you don't want people to do: "mess around with staff commands for fun". These things don't affect gameplay, and you should consider giving moderators some fun commands to use with friends to liven up the server. But otherwise, keep doing what you're doing and it seems now that you're demoting inactive staff that are keeping their rank for non-legit reasons will look good to the community.

@Lord_Roke - Does a lot for the server and means the best

@smods - Not everyone and nobody in particular, but stop being so stuck up. I swear, I got these PMs every couple months from some of you that sound like I killed a person when all I did was not capitalize my ban message or something stupid and trivial. (although I would probably be the same way as an SMOD) Big Exceptions I'd mention anyways later:

@Viva - When you were a senior mod, you were actually cool, didn't message me to do anything dumb, and I could count on you. Enjoy talking to you, keep in contact, and GL with your CS career.

@Miskey - You're also cool, and seem to be like Viva, so I'll put you here. I enjoyed your overwatch stuff!

@Mr_Dasky - While you're only slightly more active than I was, you still did a lot and are cool Thanks for supporting me while at brawl.

@warzcommunity - stop getting banned so much and having so many alts. I swear, you guys are annoying every staff member ever. I avoided "support needed" in TS for this reason. BUT, one notable exception to this rule (again):

@Risen_God - You're legit, I like you! Thanks for not being annoying to talk to - and good luck with your buisness

@tchuckraider - I thought you were pretty annoying at first, but now you're fairly chill. Stay in contact on snap.

@icedmoca - You got banned (again rip), but you're also chill and I can finally have mod on your servers that you make using stolen brawl stuff.

@Daniellll - You made my profile picture so thanks <3 Lucio GM also gets respect from me.

@dotcomdog - You're not going to see this, but good luck with your CS career path

Miscellaneous Stuff

Brawl has provided me with so much fun throughout my high school years. I'm in university right now studying physics, and also doing a CS minor (brawl dev?!?! - jk). I'll definitely be less active than I was (if that's possible lol) - I just got a pretty good undergrad teaching/grading related job, and will be getting into some pretty cool optics research in the near future at my university. Also, classes are pretty hard (it's a rigorous program - and my department is ranked top 10 worldwide frequently). I need to keep up my GPA for stuff like REU apps and eventually grad school (end goal is a research career).

To anyone who's still involved in the server, thank you! You do so much work that goes unnoticed, and I definitely saw some of that as a moderator on the server (notably the build team!) I can't really mention things without leaking, but there's definitely a lot of behind the scenes and the staff team really cares about brawl. If you're interested, it's not too late to get involved and take my mod spot (lol).
