d41eb797-e87e-490a-9b77-c752a05a7517 Cardona360: 1-0 Anni 2-1 Anni - Play styles of both teams contradict each other heavily, IN's offense is unable to break through aefrogdog/BrandinoB

5f0250a0-57f6-4ce2-a550-f2f198146bd5 Proterozoic: 2-0 Anni 1-0 IN 1-0 Anni - This is going to be a close one as IN is known for having a really strong defense, but lacks a lot of offensive power (especially after losing players to the reformation of BK). I think what'll really decide this match is how well IN can handle brandino and aefrogdog given they don't have a mage and archer that could compete. Close one but I think Anni will ultimately nudge ahead

620720cc-ffba-485d-aa24-992c42597213 Foodcourt: 2-0 Anni, 2-1 Anni - Both teams have very strong defenses, but Annihilation has the clearly offensive advantage over Insurgence. Anni’s defense, especially with Brandino as archer and Austin as mage will make it very difficult for Insurgence’s offense to get going
    5d3e5194-967d-4d18-ab50-d6793db5ea18 Keelb00: 3-0 Anni 3-1 Anni
[Tourney] Scorch vs The Templars [9/6]
d8c2c5b1-738b-4f15-a5e2-4fa4546f6482 Wrathburn_: 2-1 TT 2-0 TT - Could go either way, but SCR has a weak offense compared to TT and imo SCR will capitalize more on ninja caps than actual caps, where TT has extremely good communication on offense to get clean steals and defensively TT should be able to shut down Cardona. Yes I may exaggerating here, but TT has faced PvP defenses (notably INSG), where SCR hasn't seen a lot of those besides DF.
af359a08-e591-4ab6-b605-bb276ec7950b Unifier: 2-0 TT 2-1 TT - They have coordination and pvp advantage with player like raging and coca and their previous tournament stats prove that they are lethal in tournament finals.
620720cc-ffba-485d-aa24-992c42597213 Foodcourt: 3-2 TT 1-0 TT - Both teams have incredibly strong rosters, and have shown that they can perform consistently throughout the tournament. However, TT’s communication and PvP advantage combined with the fact that roster has been together for a very long time will give them the edge over Scorch in this matchup.

d8c2c5b1-738b-4f15-a5e2-4fa4546f6482 Wrathburn_: 2-1 DF 2-2 TBF 2-0 DF - Two inactive teams are facing off, this could get interesting. The last time those two had a match, DF got stomped, but if DF plays like they did against SCR, they should be fine.
d41eb797-e87e-490a-9b77-c752a05a7517 Cardona360: 3-1 TBF 3-2 DF 2-0 TBF - TBF has archer dominance, will help them on the maps that aren't Divergent Strike

d8c2c5b1-738b-4f15-a5e2-4fa4546f6482 Wrathburn_: 4-2 TBF 2-0 TBF - With TC missing some roaming (james, forums, june), TBF should be able to hold off TC on Blackout and whatever TBF will choose.
d41eb797-e87e-490a-9b77-c752a05a7517 Cardona360: 3-2 TC 2-1 TBF 2-1 TC - Both teams win their own maps, but TC does better on the 3rd map historically

d41eb797-e87e-490a-9b77-c752a05a7517 Cardona360: 1-0 DF 3-0 ADV 2-2 Tie - ADV has recently shown very solid gameplay on Opposites Collide V, especially when Jul13n and Z_Hobo are on the roster. DF used to do very well here, but with roster changes and a slow drift to different main maps, they won't match ADV on OCV, an essential map pick for adv's victory

    [Tourney] Scorch vs The Templars
    Written by @Proterozoic

Usually, I like to start a match write-up with something catchy, for example renewing an old rivalry, but this particular case is different. It's true there was no rivalry between the two teams (well, at least before the match) making me playing the "old rivalry" card useless, that's not the reason for the exception anyway. This is an exception for me because I was involved in the match, and am also writing the thing up (you can either thank or blame the other writers for giving me this one depending on your mood). With this in mind, expect there to be a little bias towards Scorch. The good news is I'll be trying to give you an idea from my viewpoint as well as in retrospect to the entire match, which gives you more information than from a regular writer's perspective! Anyway, on with the match at hand:

The organisation for this final ended up suiting neither team perfectly from the very beginning. The main negotiator of the Templars (@Snowleak14) pushed forward with a Sunday timeslot where ours (@hamzacx) preferred a Friday timeslot, though Saturday was also open to a lesser extent. In the end, Saturday was chosen for the date (in order for the tournament not to be delayed any longer than it already has). Whilst both teams managed to gather enough players, others couldn't show. This begs the question whether either team was at their strongest, and I would like to see them at a time when it perfectly suits both teams. For this particular match, interviews were also set up with two players (shameless plug for myself once again, as well as @November, check them out as they're both a part of the recording before the main match).

Looking towards the first map, I can't say I was particularly encouraged. Whilst the maps are some of the best in rotation now, they didn't really suit my teams playstyle. Desert strike III represented one of our major challenges. Our main capper might be a soldier, but others in our team preferred classes like chemist and heavy on offense, which did not suit this map. TT meanwhile had a number of soldiers they could call upon (in the case of this match, @Participated and @tziglev_6). Another major issue standing in our way was @Pizze (who was to cause major issues throughout the match) but I was particularly concerned for this map due to the prominence of archer. My fears were put to rest quite fast with scorch managing the first and second caps of the game. TT did manage to acquire one of their own, but soon after, a third capture by scorch ended the first map heavily in their favour. This put us in good stead for the rest of the game, 1 map and 2 caps ahead. Sadly this was not to last.

The second map (valley of siege) benefitted scorch's style of pvp more although still wasn't particularly encouraging. This time, the Templars managed to get ahead first (albeit at a slower rate), scoring 2 caps and putting us at a heavy disadvantage. Thankfully, we managed to pull things back in the last 10 minutes, capturing twice in 4 minutes. Neither team, try as they might, managed to capture in the remaining time, ending the map in a 2-2 draw. This forced the third map, and put Scorch in a strong position, meaning TT had to win by a large match to claim overall victory. I was confident, but sadly that wouldn't last.

Map 3, Forest of rivals I, was not a good map choice for scorch. Soldier based and open made it a poor choice. The choice was made to substitute me. Unfortunately for scorch, this was a poor decision, as I was the main player attacking pizze. This allowed him to run riot, scoring major damage offensively and defensively without counter. This, when combined with TTs soldier cappers, spelled major trouble for scorch. 2 caps were quickly conceded before I was substituted back in to the game, By that time, momentum had been irreversibly lost. Things slowed down after reintroduction, but TT still managed to decimate with a 5-0 victory, winning the match for them on flag captures. I have to give TT credit for staying confident after being on the backfoot for the vast majority of the match, it takes patience and calm thinking to pull that off. Scorch meanwhile played well, but ultimately fell apart strategically in the final map. Ultimately consistency is key, and my side weren't up to the task. Excuses could be made (and a lot of excuses were made on both sides) but in the end Scorch lost (guess I'll just have to settle for second).

@Participated was called on for player of the game for his consistent offensive presence and threat. I can understand that sentiment, as he was a constant threat throughout the game. From my point of view, I'd also give @Pizze a huge amount of credit as he never let up and was a constant problem for me to deal with. Regardless of the result however, I think the match ended up being a fitting final for this tournament. A close game with 2 strong teams, ending up going down to captures, the core aspect of this gamemode. I hope future tournaments end up being as exciting, though maybe next time not as delayed (you know who you are, those who delayed this one!).

Final Scores: 3-1 SCR 2-2 Tie 5-0 TT

    [Tourney] Insugence vs Annihilation
    Written by @Cardona360

The 3rd place match of the 2018 MCCTF Teams Tournament. Both teams did incredibly well to get this far into the tournament. Annihilation was able to defeat the likes of The Adventurer and The Crusaders and adapting very well to a roster revamp; Insurgence came out on the top of their bracket in the group phase, scoring a draw against arguably the best team, The Templars. However, both teams met their match against Scorch and TT (Round 2) respectively. Now, the teams face off against each other for the title of 3rd place, a very impressive ranking in this riveting tournament!

Map 1 is Dragon Valley I, a map picked by the committee along with the following maps. 3 minutes in, ephixa steals the flag as soldier, escaping Annihilation’s flagroom through the top of the structure. He runs the flag down the side while being harassed by aefrogdog (Mage). Slayway, playing Archer for Annihilation’s instead of BrandinoB, attempts to headshot ephixa, but missed due to ephixa maneuvering around the terrain. Aefrogdog is still harassing ephixa, who has crossed to the middle trying to get to Larh (Medic) the medic gives regeneration while ephixa is on 4 hearts, and eventually gets the restore. With aefrogdog finally dealt with, ephixa crosses the bridge and takes the sponge to spawn. Meanwhile, Miskey also steals as soldier, but his support is headshotted. He, however, evades the arrows and plays around INSG’s bulky recovery (Pyro and Heavy) until his support meets him. A stalemate begins and lasts for the next 15 minutes. Annihilation’s recovery doesn't manage to work together most of the time, with Slayway out of sync with the rest of his team but getting close to headshotting ephixa on his own. Later on, Anni gets closer attempts with soldiers, but isn't able to deal with ephixa’s support. Insurgence isn't able to surpass aefrogdog on a map like this, although Heartsrevolution does a good deal of damage by himself on a few occasions. The map ends in a 0-0 draw.

Moving on to map 2, Canadian Fort, the map is very soldier biased for both offense and defense due to trees lined all throughout the middle. Very early into the game, Miskey steals as soldier and uses the sponge to go straight to the middle. He's able to get across from support and takeoutandm16a4/4_feelburn targeting IN’s archer. Ducks also steals, making it across the middle with very low health left and eventually dies to flag poison. Nakatago gets a backup steal and goes the same way Ducks did. Dan has support and is able to bypass aefrogdog, but gets headshot by Slayway right before he was safe from headshots. Heartsrevolution picks the flag up and makes his way to spawn, another stalemate. Miskey is immediately headshot as hearts gets to spawn, but ningeek picks up and passes to BrandinoB (Soldier). Meanwhile, hearts waits until a safe moment to pass to ephixa, who has much better holding experience being the soldier main. A few pushes later, Heartsrevolution is able to push Brandino behind the red base on his own, leading to a follow-up assassination from Edgar, who was waiting patiently for the right time. With the much shorter stalemate coming to an end, Ephixa gets the first capture of the match. Miskey steals shortly after, covering great distance with just a medic. He travels along the side of the map to avoid any mishaps and freely runs it into Annihilation flagroom to tie the score (1-1). Ephixa gets an immediate counter steal, and takes lightning knockback far out of the flagroom. He makes it to the middle, but must climb slowly across the river. He goes down to damage, but aefrogdog redeems himself by using lightning to knock IN away from the flag (thus resulting in an ensured recovery). Ephixa steals again again soon after, managing to survive and outplay Anni greatly. He gets a medic and scores a 2nd capture for Insurgence. The map ends like this, 2-1 in Insurgence’s favor.

The final map is Slate, a decently balanced map known for low cap count and, you guessed it, even more stalemates. Both of these would benefit IN, but if Anni manage to win by 1 cap, a tiebreaker map will be played (Blackout). The map starts out with an interesting switch from ephixa to ninja and BrandinoB to archer. Although ephixa’s switch isn't permanent, he is able to steal a couple of times at first on his own, but proper placement from Anni recovery means he never gets close to the cap. Miskey, however, gets a successful ninja steal and pearls near his spawn, where takeout picks the flag up. He takes a short sprint to the Annihilation flagroom and scores a capture. About halfway into the map, takeout steals the flag and runs down the middle. He utilizes wall climb well, but he also runs away from all of his support. He still manages to stay alive, and enters his flagroom. Lara steals as medic, running out the side tunnel unopposed. A ninja and an assassin are waiting for her at the end of the tunnel, but she kills them. She's low on steak, but doesn't want to pass to her support at mid because she's afraid of a ninja recovery. She is eventually taken down by a good cut-off from feelburn and takeout gets the 2nd capture for Anni, putting them in the lead. Miskey steals a while later as soldier, generally unopposed. He makes it all the way to spawn, where ningeek restores him. With no insta-kill class in sight, Miskey gets the last capture to end the map in a 3-0 for Anni.

The match was well played by both teams! Thanks to good coordination, flagholding, and necessary captures, Miskey is awarded Player of the Game.

    Final Scores: 0-0 2-1 IN 3-0 Anni
    Overall: Anni Win! PotG @Miskey

[Official] The Crusaders vs The Adventurer
    Written by anonymous

It seems that this time, both teams got some old players like VeryLewd420 (KingScrub) and MuffinMan676 (mh676) for TC and for ADV Jul13n, Z_Hobo and LoL200e. Additionally both TC and ADV bring their regular players like kev, Arctic, pudgy from TC’s side and redslime and the crazy brothers for ADV.

Opposides Collide 5, standard ADV pick, starts off with TC’s offense getting killed while ADV’s offense consisting of Jul13n, redslime and Kryzzl managed to get into TC's flagroom, because TC runs a double ninja defense and get a steal, however ghenry frenzies Jul13n, then Jul13n tries to juke and hopefully get the medic, unfortunately for him ghenry hits him, thus recovering the flag. zengjp gets the first steal for TC, she goes top stairs, but gets frenzied by LoL200e, allowing Arctic to get a clean steal and going bottom, she uses the sponge in the back hole to get top, however wulfi and LoLe are doing a lot of damage, but Arctic kills wulfi and gets the medic before she dies, without much recovery on Arctic, TC gets their first capture. With ADV struggling to get into TC’s flagroom due to medic taking a lot of damage by James and KingScrub, besides Z_Hobo, who manages to kill the ninjas on his way to TC’s flagroom, mh676 and ghenry. He steals but dies instantly due to the high damage that he has taken from the defense before. While all of that happened zengjp has stolen again, goes top, but is being chased by the majority of ADV and due to Z_Hobo and wulfi98 knocking her away from going downstairs she goes outside again, allowing Z_Cray to finish her off and recover.
redslime and Jul13n get into the flagroom again, killing ghenry, but with the loss of redslime getting assassinated by MuffinMan676. Jul13n steals, he kills James and mh676, goes top, ghenry waits for him, but he chooses to go up the other staircase, pursued by KingScrub and ghenry, Jul13n kills KingScrub, goes bottom, but is being stalled by James, allowing for the recov. However ADV’s next offensive push gets into the flagroom yet again, killing literally everyone, with some help by Z_Cray, who kills ghenry. Jul13n picks it up and they all go top, he blocks the assassinate from mh676 , James tries to stall him again, but is not successful due to the support that he has, redslime throws a poison potion at ghenry, slowing him down and Jul13n caps for ADV, making it a tie of 1-1.

A push later and Jul13n steals again, but this time without much support, yet still manages to cap, due to no ninja to stall him this time. zengjp steals right after the capture and goes top, but gets cut off by the ADV defense and goes down. After a short lived steal by zengjp, redslime steals as chemist and goes top, ghenry gets webbed by Kryzzl, but redslime ran into the respawned TC offense, gets stalled by James and goes down. TC’s defense holds off Jul13n and Kryzzl, thus redslime goes in alone and steals, he goes top but dies to assassinate, allowing Jul13n to steal, but he also dies to a frenzy. After multiple steals from both teams, ADV sends 3 heavies on offense, with Z_Hobo stealing and going back staircase, but he does the mistake of juking and unfortunately for him mh676 just came back from spawn and kills Z_Hobo, but it allows for redslime to steal as ninja and he goes bottom, he gets the medic at mid bottom and caps.

Blackout, usual pick by TC, but ADV doesn’t have an archer player, so Buhcx was put on archer, the first steal comes from TC with zengjp, but she dies as fast as she picked up the flag, after that James steals the flag as ninja, pearls top mid, fortunately for him he pearls right away as wulfi pearled on to him and he caps. Immediately after the ninja cap, Arctic and Z_Cray steal, Z_Cray almost gets knocked off by James, but he keeps going and tries to go through middle, but goes down to damage. Arctic is in the meantime at her spawn and caps, regardless of the stalling by ADV. puhdgy steals for TC, but drops the flag so that zengjp can pick it up, she gets headshotted by Buhcx and Arctic picks up the dropped flag and goes top mid with recovery on her, yet she dies to damage and Jul13n recovers. Kryzzl steals as medic and manages to get to the far side, but she gets knocked off by James. zengjp steals again, due to Arctic knocking away LoL200e, but she dies to damage. After the majority of ADV offense goes down, Kryzzl steals again the flag as medic after she killed the ninjas and ghenry, but mh676 assassinates her before she gets out of the flagroom. On ADV’s next offensive push Jul13n steals the flag, but gets headshotted by kev as he is wall climbing up the wall, yet no one from TC recovers that, allowing redslime to pick it up as ninja and pass the flag at mid to Jul13n. Unfortunately for ADV zengjp stole their flag and Jul13n gets headshotted by kev again, Kryzzl picks it up, but mh676 assassinates her and zengjp captures, bring the score up to 3-0 for TC. Arctic manages to steal the flag after KingScrub kills LoL200e and with a lot of support for her, she gets over the bridge, but puhdgy dies to wulfi, preventing her to get healed. Arctic doesn’t have a lot of health left, but due to pearl fails she gets the regen, Jul13n almost kills her, but he dies first. Z_Hobo steals the flag as soldier and causes a stalemate. The stalemate got ended by a headshot from kev and Arctic captures. She steals again and runs down mid, she meets up with support and captures a final time.

Lowrise, the agreed map, with no tie yet, ADV still has a chance to win the match, after the 5-0 on Blackout, the thing they have to do is just win the map. Both Z_Cray and zengjp get a steal, but they both go down to damage, Jul13n steals right after and tries to go on the higher floor, but that is prevented by KingScrub and he dies. Z_Cray steals on ADV’s next push, but gets assassinated and redslime almost picked the flag up, but gets knocked away from it and dies a bit later. Arctic steals after a small distraction from KingScrub, she goes on the roof, but Z_Hobo is dealing a lot of damage to her and wulfi98 gets a headshot on her, allowing Z_Hobo to recover, but James steals as ninja and dies at his spawn, allowing puhdgy to pick it up and capture for TC. redslime steals as ninja and also manages to get to his spawn, he passes to Jul13n and he caps for ADV. zengjp and Arctic get into the flagroom without puhdgy, who is chased by Jul13n. Arctic steals, but LoL200e frenzies zengjp and her. TC now brings James on offense, which helps since zengjp steals as chemist and goes spawnside, yet she gets knocked off, resulting in a recov, but Arctic steals right after that, with James supporting her as ninja, both go bottom, but they are cut off by Jul13n, Z_Cray and Z_Hobo, forcing her to go back to the flagroom and she goes on the roof, where Jul13n cuts her off again, Arctic tries to wall climb out of the situation, but ends in her getting knocked into the void.
Jul13n steals, gets the heal at the exit, but instantly dies to an headshot and Kryzzl picks it up she passes the flag after recovery died to Z_Hobo, a stalemate is caused because Arctic stole in while they passed to Z_Hobo. The stalemate ends from a recovery push from TC’s side consisting of James, m676 and ghenry, TC captures and the score is 2-1 for them. redslime steals, dies instantly to James/mh676, a follow up steal comes from Kryzzl, but she goes down to James. Jul13n gets another steal, goes on the higher floor, but then he jumps down due to ninja being on the same floor and gets frenzied. Arctic steals after mh676 assassinated LoL200e, but she gets headshotted and zengjp picking it up, she goes back on the roof, jumps down after Z_Hobo wall climbs up, but she gets knocked off at the helicopter by redslime. Jul13n grabs the flag again, being trailed by James, but he kills him and gets support by redslime, unfortunately for him he gets headshotted by kev and James recovers the flag. Arctic steals again with support by zengjp, but she gets headshotted as soon she got out of the building, allowing Jul13n to recover. A bit later Arctic steals again, but doesn’t make it out and dies, zengjp gets a clean steal after ADV recovered the flag, she goes the exact same way as Arctic, but she manages to get the medic regen, Z_Hobo is in her way, but she goes right to reduce the chance of a possible headshot and to get around Z_Hobo, she goes bottom and gets support. Z_Cray counter steals and goes through bottom middle, he almost dies to mh676, but mh676 missed his hit on Z_Cray. With 30s left neither team recovers on either carrier and the map ends in TC’s favor.
