CTF Winter Games 2022

Hey there Brawlers!

Hope things are going well for you in 2022. We here at the CTF staff team are looking to kick off the New Year with a bang! The CTF Winter Games are a brand new competition to have a bit of fun with the season & try out some new events. Get ready for a wintry mix of gamemodes that should be a breath of fresh air for all!


Schedule:

The CTF Winter Games will take place on January 8th, 2022, starting at 2pm EST. It’ll be made up of 3 events - a Medic Parkour Tournament, Ninja Capping Time Trials, and a 5v5 tournament - that should run for about 4 hours, give or take.


Signing up:

You’ll be competing as part of a team for this competition. Each team should have a captain and at least 5 players (teams are allowed up to 7). To sign up for the competition, have your captain reply to this thread with the form below filled out:

When picking your team, keep in mind that the Medic Parkour & Ninja Capping events, which require 1 player per team to compete, will take place first. The 5v5 tournament, which accordingly requires 5 players per team, is expected to start about 2 hours in (at roughly 4pm EST).

The signup deadline, as well as the roster lock, is at midnight EST on January 8th, 2022.


Scoring:

Each team competing in the CTF Winter Games wins points based on their placement in the competition’s various events. The team with the highest point total once all 3 events are done will be declared the champion. The point totals for each event can be seen below:



In the case of two teams tying in terms of overall points, their placement will be determined by a set of tiebreakers. First, the team with the most first place finishes in individual events (out of the two) will be placed higher in the standings. If the teams have an equal number of first place finishes, then the team with more second place finishes will be placed higher, and so on.


Medic Parkour Tournament:

Each team selects one player to compete in this event. This player will be entered into a single elimination bracket, where they’ll have to finish a custom parkour map faster than their opponent to advance to the next round. Players are allowed to interfere with their opponents in any way they can, so watch out as you try to make your way to the end!


Ninja Capping Time Trials:

Each team selects one player to compete in this event. This player gets two runs to fully cap out the map selected for the event as quickly as they can. These runs will take place in a snake order, where the second set of runs will take place in the reverse order of the first set. The quicker of each player’s two runs is taken as their official time, and the player with the lowest official time wins the event. Players are allowed to use any non-glitch methods they like to complete the map, including respawns, ghost capping, and so on. The map selected for the time trials is Airlock III (70907).


5v5 Tournament:

Each team selects 5 players to compete in this event. The tournament’s rules will mostly mirror last year’s, with teams competing in a single elimination bracket. Team seeding (or placement in the bracket) will be available the night before the event.

Maps will have a 10 minute time limit, with overtime enabled if teams are tied on caps at the end of those 10 minutes. Every class is limited to 1 per team, and teams are allowed 1 ninja cap per map (ghost capping is allowed). Mandatory Match Rules (MMR) will also be enforced.

Each round of the tournament bracket will use a pre-selected map. These maps are as follows:
- 1st Round: Mini Bazaar (458157)
- 2nd Round: Forest of Rivals II (448570)
- Semifinals: Diagonal Castleout (440708)
- Finals: Mini Castle Cavern (458248)


Prizing:

1st Place Overall - 1 Week Global ELITE, a rename tag, a Brawler Crate, holograms in the lobby for a few months, and a role in the community discord
2nd Place Overall - Banner Design or Gesture/Object spray pack spray of choice
3rd/4th Place Overall - $5 Brawl store coupon

 

As it turns out, we did get an 8th team that signed up just at the signup deadline, but that didn't get communicated across.

This does mean that link and OvercastUnicorn won't be playing for the Leftovers, and also means that peppa pigs & friends won't get a bye in the medic parkour tournament, Sophia's Boyfriends won't get a bye in the 5v5 tournament. Furthermore, Angels will be going 1st in the first heat of the ninja capping trials, and will go last in the second heat.

The map first round for the 5v5 tournament is going to be Mini Bazaar (458157), and Forest of Rivals will not be played at all.
