    Hey there Brawlers!

    Looking for a break from the summer heat? We here at the CTF staff team would like to invite you over for some cool & refreshing tournaments! The CTF Summer Bash will be running over the coming weeks, letting players test their mettle in a variety of different tournament formats. Today, we’re here to announce the first tournament of the Bash - the Summer 8v8 tournament! More details on the event’s other tournaments will be announced later on down the line, but for now, let’s take a look at how you can join in on the action!

    When will the tournament happen?

    The 8v8 tournament will take place on Saturday, July 23rd, starting at 2PM EDT / 6PM GMT / 8PM CEST. The tournament will likely run for multiple hours straight, so be prepared for that time commitment when signing up.

    How do I sign up?
    Since this is a team tournament, you’ll have to put together a team roster in order to compete. Each team should have a captain and at least 8 players (teams are allowed up to 10). To sign up for the competition, have your captain reply to this thread with the form below filled out:
    Players are only allowed to be on one team apiece. Teams may sign up freely until 11:59PM GMT (that’s 7:59PM EDT) on Friday, July 22nd.

    You may also register your team in the ‘Tourney Signups’ channel in the CTF Community Discord if you would like. There will also be a temporary ‘Looking for Team’ channel opened up in the discord for individual players who want to let team captains know they’re interested in the event. You can find a link to the discord here:

    What’s the format for the Summer 8v8 tournament?
    The tournament will use a single elimination bracket, with teams being seeded into a bracket that will be made available after roster lock. Each team will play the opponent they’re seeded against in the bracket, and advance to the next round if they win.

    Individual matches will be played in a best of 3 format, with a team’s number of captures acting as a tiebreaker in the event that both teams are tied on map wins. The teams’ captains (or other representatives) will briefly pick and ban maps shortly before the match takes place - see the ‘map pick and ban’ section below for more information. Maps will run for 15 minutes apiece - not 20 - in order to help conserve time (this is a one day tournament after all). If both teams are tied on both map wins & captures at the end of map 3, that map will go into sudden death overtime.

    As the name suggests, matches will be played with 8 players on their team at any given time. Mandatory match rules apply to this tournament. Additionally, class limits for the event are as listed below:

    Limit 1 per team of:
    Angel, Archer, Assassin, Chemist, Dwarf, Elf, Engineer, Mage, Medic, Necro, Pyro, Scout, Wraith (if released).

    Limit 2 per team of:
    Heavy, Ninja, Soldier.

    What are Map Pick & Bans? And which maps are available for play?
    Map Pick & Bans are a format we’re trying out to refresh the current ‘agreed map’ system while adding some pre-match excitement. Some of our players may already be familiar with this format from trial runs in PPMs, but for those who aren’t, here’s how they work:

    The basic idea is that captains from both teams select the maps they play from a pool of 9 options before the match starts. To do this, they alternate banning and picking maps until the pool of maps is nearly depleted. Once the first 8 maps are either banned or picked by one team, the remaining (9th) map will be used as the agreed (3rd) map of the match. The order of these picks & bans will be:

    > Team 1 bans a map, Team 2 bans a map;
    > Team 1 picks their map, Team 2 picks their map;
    > Team 1 bans a map, Team 2 bans a map;
    > Team 1 bans a map, Team 2 bans a map;
    > The remaining map in the pool becomes the agreed map.

    Drafts will take place in the CTF Community Discord no later than 10 minutes prior to the designated start time of a match - that’s 1:50 EDT for the start of the tournament; a team’s captain or other designated rep should be available in the designated voice channel there by that point in time. A tournament referee will administer each map draft, with team captains allotted up to 30 seconds for each pick or ban. Once the map selections for each match are locked in, the match servers will be set up & matches will get underway as soon as possible.

    For the 8v8 Tournament, teams will be able to pick maps from the following pool:

    Bazaar I (437154), Harvest II (444481), Castle Cavern VI (332205),
    Blackout 2020 (440174), Adrenaline I (439425), Rundown II (452270),
    Skyworlds VI (444840), Airlock III (70907), Waitomo Caves (362115).

    What’s the prizing?
    Each summer bash event will have its own prize pool, so the following is for the 8v8 tournament alone:
    1st Place: $10 Brawl Store Credit + 1 CTF Tag of Choice (per player)
    2nd Place: 1 CTF Tag of Choice (per player)

    Final Notes:
    Again, this is just the first event of the CTF Summer Bash. We’ll host more events at different dates and times that should hopefully be convenient for any players who can’t make the 8v8 tournament. If you have any further questions, feel free to reply to this thread with them. We hope you enjoy the summer festivities here on brawl.com, and happy capping!
