Book Capture and Recovery, Chapter 2: The Feast

I would suggest reading over it first before reading this, as this is chapter 2. With that said, let's begin.

Chapter 2
[P.O.V. Cyber]
After the steal​

I sat in the midst of everything: the balloons, the drinks, the excitement. I wanted to be a part of it all! My glass was​

empty, but my stomach sure wasn't. The food here was great and the festivities were first rate. The atmosphere wasn't bad either. The feast was situated in the midst of a forest. There were lights strung from every branch and the entire scene gave off a friendly, warm glow. It was, by far, the best party CAP had ever thrown. Pookey came by and took a seat right next to me. He'd clearly been enjoying the evening because his face was red from running around so much.

"Hey Cyber! Great party huh? Sure showed those silly blue guys something awful tonight. I'd be willing to bet they're​

busy crying themselves to sleep after that little adventure!" He laughed at the memories of it and grabbed me another glass of root beer. "Hey come on. It's a feast; a celebration. Enjoy a little!" I hesitated, but then gratefully took the glass from him and took a swig. He laughed some more and ran off to meet some other people, leaving me alone with my thoughts. I took another sip and gazed around at the merriment. pookey was showing off with his elemental magic again. It must be nice to be an elf, but it wasn't nice, however, to see the exact same trick over and over again. Adam, our trusty assassin, was gloating over his take-down of an entire squadron single handed. He waved over to me when he saw me looking and I waved back with a smile. He was very skilled in his technique, I'd give him that. Although it wasn't like him to gloat so much. The party must've been getting to him as well. I stood up to throw my drink away and maybe dance a little when I noticed Black heading towards me. Finally someone who wasn't in over his head about the party. I could probably hold a decent conversation with him.

"Hey Cyber. How're you this evening?" Black asked as I picked my way through the crowd over to meet him.
"It's been nice so far. Everyone needed this after what we pulled tonight." I answered back, still full of thought about​

the day's events. Black noticed the mood and commented on it.

"Hey. Are you ok? I noticed you were tanking a lot of damage out there earlier tonight. You're not hurt are you?" I​

shook my head quickly.

"What? No no no. I'm fine. Daniel looked at me afterwards and cleared me. What about you, though? I noticed you​

seemed to be having some difficulties with your potions halfway through the attack." He sighed and shook his head. I noticed his arm was badly burned as well, but decided not to press about it.

"I don't know what happened. I think one of their archers shot my bag and mixed my chemicals. Nothing was​

sorted correctly. I'm fine now though. Just a burn. It'll heal."

"I see." I said, more to myself than to him. "Well then, I'll be going now. Was a pleasure talking with you."
"Likewise". He responded, and we parted ways. I thought in silence for a while. That was a very dangerous attack​

indeed...

[P.O.V James]
Some time later​

I was sitting a little off to the side from everyone else. Had I wanted the attention all I had to do was ask​

for it, though. I was, after all, the ninja that had stolen the blue team's precious flag. It was a huge accomplishment and I didn't take it lightly, but there was always room for improvement. On my way out I could've been taken out by an engineer. I'm sure he saw me. In any case, though, we had completed the mission and now was the time to celebrate. I raised a glass to my lips, but it was knocked out of my hand before I could even get a sip in. Lionaa plopped herself down next to me and I sighed inwardly. There would be no peace and quiet while she was here. I glanced down furtively at my spilled drink and Lionaa patted me on the back.

"It's fine James. Jeez! We have so much left I'm sure we'll be drinking 20 times a day! As your courageous and​

fearless leader I demand that you stop crying over a spilled drink!" I looked up and gave a weak smile, which Lionaa frowned at for a moment, but then seemed to accept.

"What are you doing over here Lionaa? Shouldn't you be focused on the preparations for the boss's arrival?" I asked,​

trying to make small talk and possibly bore her enough to make her go away. It wasn't that I didn't appreciate Lionaa's company. It was just that with the recent turn of events that led to her being instated as captain, not many people trusted her sanity; or her word about what really happened, in fact. However, she seemed intent upon staying for a little while because she shrugged off the obvious hint.

"I'll leave that for someone else to do. A leader should lead, not do things for other people. Besides, it's appropriate​

to want to spend time getting to know my new co-leader-in-training!" I sighed inwardly once more. I'd been co-captain for a little over a month now. How much more time 'getting to know me' did she need? I faked a laugh and stood up from my seat, causing her to look up at me.

"Haha! You're right Lionaa! We haven't spent much time together. We'll have to do that soon, but for right now I​

better go see to the preparations. I'll catch you later." And with that I walked into the crowd. People waved at me, congratulated me, and even asked to shake my hand. I made my rounds to each person in turn, before heading up to the stage we had built for the boss. As I was making my way up to the front, a man walked out of the shadows to my immediate right. I grabbed a small knife off one of the dinner tables and took a handful of redstone dust from my pocket. With one swift movement I tossed the dust onto me, enabling me to move completely invisible to the human eye. I darted up to where the strange man was still walking and held my knife at the ready. Then, in a cool voice, the person spoke.

"You really shouldn't move so fast James. I felt the wind move against me. You'd be dead on the battlefield,​

you know that." I stumbled, caught unawares by his observation. It was then that I took a closer look at the man I was going to attack. Of course, it was the boss. I quickly brushed the redstone dust off of me and tossed the knife into the ground at my feet before bowing my head.

"I'm so sorry boss. I assumed you were one of those blue filth coming to take back their flag." He held up a hand and​

I raised my head to meet his.

"There's no need to apologize. A co-captain should always be prepared. Now, where is the stage?" He asked, his cold​

eyes darting around the party. I gulped slightly at the realization that the stage probably wasn't up to par with his standards. Regardless, I motioned for him to follow me and led him up to the wooden platform. He sniffed in disdain at the sight of it, but climbed the side steps nonetheless. I took a seat near the front and Lionaa sat down next to me once more. For the third time that night I sighed. It was going to be a long feast.

[P.O.V Unifier]
During the speech​

"Everyone, may I have your attention please?" I heard a voice say out toward where the stage was. I was in the​

middle of tightening my bow strings and had to pause to look up. Maelstrom was standing on the stage and people were beginning to move over to hear him speak. I gruffly pulled the last of my bow strands taunt and tightened the knot. There! The bow strings snapped back into place with a resounding twang! Gathering up my pyrotechnics that I brought with me everywhere, I rushed over to where the boss was still making his announcements. Something about good year of captures, good job on Jame's steal, yadah yadah. I'd heard it all before. I glanced over at James, who was shrinking back modestly from the limelight. All the better for him. It made him more respectable, in my opinion. Suddenly pookey, directly to my left, stood up and yelled,

"Hey boss! What are we supposed to do now?" the crowd went hushed and the boss gave a cold glare over towards​

him, who appeared to disappear inside himself. I shook my head and nudged him to stand up taller. Rookies; they weren't getting out of punishment that easily. Maelstrom moved his hand in a pattern so fast it could've been missed had I not been watching so closely. Something erupted from his hand and flashed towards Pookey. Poor kid didn't have any time to react before he was frozen solid.

"Please don't interrupt me during my speech. There will be time for questions afterwards." The boss said matter-of-​

factly. Everyone inched just a little bit further back from the stage and I couldn't help but chuckle. The boss and his tricks. Pookey was already beginning to thaw out. He continued with his announcements and I yawned. Such boring meetings. All I wanted to do was test out my new and improved flame arrows. I twiddled my fingers as I waited for the formalities to be over with. When I looked up again, Lionaa was on the stage. There was a shuffling of feet and people looked at the ground instead of directly at her. I had to admit, even I didn't like the circumstances under which she became captain.

"Thank you all so much for being here tonight. It was an awesome fight and one that the blue team won't forget so​

easily!" She exclaimed. That got a couple goo cheers, but people were still apprehensive. Would she mention him here today? My ears perked and I stared intently at her. "As you all know, I'm here standing before you today as your new leader because of a terrible accident that befell our previous captain. Let us all take a moment now to remember Eil as the wonderful person he was. I'm sure he would approve of his replacement, should he have been here today." A ripple went through the group. My heart chilled at the thought that she was speaking about Eil like this so soon after his death. She continued on to talk about all the good she would do and all the accomplishments she hoped to have for the team by the time she was ready to step down. Again, I was uninterested. My thoughts went back to the great times Eil and I had had on the battlefield. He truly was a great leader. I took a fresh drink from the table next to me and started to drink it when Maelstrom came back up to the front of the stage.

"I'm expecting none of you to let your guard down. Any small misstep here and CAP is done for. I didn't hire you​

people to be freeloaders. Tomorrow night you're to take the flag to a secure area up in clocktower. I will meet you once you arrive. Have a wonderful feast. You deserve it." With that, he took his leave just as quickly as he had come. The group slowly disbanded and the music slowly increased until it was back to it's usual loudness. I was heading back to the treeline to try my new fire arrows when I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned to see Lionaa of all people.

"What do you want. Can't you see I'm busy here?" I said harshly. I didn't have time for her right now.
"I know you're upset about Eil, and I know how much you two had been through, but I'm your leader now and I​

demand some form of respect." She said coldly. I had to bite my tongue to avoid actually hurting her feelings. I would never think of her as my captain. If anything, James was a better suit. I didn't take orders from anyone though. This was a one man show, and that's how I liked it. I stepped roughly out from her hand and paused with my back to her.

"I understand you're my captain now, but Eil was where my loyalties were. I don't like the story of his death.​

Ambushed by an entire enemy team? Seems awfully suspicious if you ask me. In any case, I'm heading off to check up on some new pyrotechnics." I began walking again, but was stopped by a freeze spell to the back. I had forgotten she was a mage...

"I'm done arguing with you. Why not come back and enjoy the party? There's nothing to be worried about. You can​

test your pyrotechnics when you get to Clocktower." Her tone was tense, demanding. I hated it. I was beginning to thaw now and my hand could almost reach my flint and steel.

"You don't get it do you?" I almost yelled, taking her by surprise I'm sure. "There's no time to test when we get there.​

Don't you think they'll want their flag back? They're going to be coming for it, and they're going to be coming soon. Now if you'll excuse me CAPTAIN." My hand grabbed my flint and steel and I broke free from the ice cage with a spark. I left her standing there and I never looked back as I walked on into the trees.

well that's the end of chapter 2 guys! I'll tag everyone once more just to make it easier. I'll also tag Eil as he made a small appearance in this chapter and I have plans to have him mentioned again just for the sake of a more complex plot line. The next chapter may take a little longer to produce as I have many ideas I want to incorporate. Let me know what you think so far. Bai! ^-^

indeed. I wanted to get blue and red team introduced quickly to get both teams interested. Now there should be a couple gaps, but I'll try my hardest to get the next part out soon.

 

Chapters 1 and 2 were the introductions of most of the characters. That's why they were so close together. The others will be more spread out, but I'm hoping to have chapter 3 at least partly done by tomorrow and out in maybe a day or two. As for CAP's meaning, I suppose I could spin a little something into the story.

xD I haven't even begun writing it. It's raining, so I haven't been able to draft anything up yet. Once it stops raining I'll go on the trampoline and start to think of plot
