When I reference "the community" on the forums, I am generally referring to the active, regular CTF players, most of which have forum accounts. When I said a large amount of the community prefer wool, I am able to obtain this information from the poll we had previously. It wasn't just a shot in the dark, referencing a "mysterious majority of the community".

Eh, not surprised to see you call me out, but I found it particularly funny when you said I wanted mod. If I wanted mod, I wouldn't have said Lord_Roke was a c*** and I wouldn't have DDoS threatened anyone.

Anyways, the majority of the community is just another way of saying "most people want". Sometimes its true, sometimes its this new amazing thing that no-one seems to be able to understand, called exaggeration.

Polls are highly ambiguous on a community whose size is very hard to define so yes to some degree that poll is a shot in the dark.

The point is, if you're going to reference a majority of the community then at least put it in the correct context. It's not really that hard to do and it would be very helpful especially since the vast majority of players who do have forum accounts do not use them frequently or at all.

@SoSpooky21 yes I do know what exaggeration is, and it's very dangerous in arguments since it can completely distort reality - which is why I posted this topic in the first place.

If a business who got around 100,000 customers a month gave a questionnaire and got 1,000 responses, and 90% said that they wanted x, it'd be fair to say that the majority of customers wanted x, so they should do x. You don't have to ask every single person who in a particular group to see approximately how many of them think this or that.

    Uh

Yes, I know how polls work.

Like I said though, sample size is irrelevant if most of it is biased.

You can't deny that veterans CTF'ers are stubborn, though. Again, the majority of forumers who likely even knew about that poll were from mcpvp, where expectations and preferences were allowed to grow wildly out of proportion.

CTFers are stubborn towards staff because we've asked for the same thing for a really long time. A lot of people have wanted a Pyro rework since longer than I can remember, and yet there's only been 1 small change to Pyro (excluding the dyed armour).

That's the problem with not giving something a community wants after a long time. People lose faith, then start to become stubborn and demand changes. Eventually they give up in the staff team, and don't even bother asking for them.

    I agree with you m8
I hate when people are like "The majority wants wool back"
To be honest, the forums folk are not the majority.

That does not mean we don't have a voice, though!

The Tyranny of the Majority beats back logical arguments with the Bandwagon Fallacy. The Bandwagon Fallacy is committed whenever someone argues for something based on its popularity. Did we really need this thread?

Yes we did because quite a few people commit that fallacy and then use it to justify all sorts of things, which is bad when those arguments get taken seriously.
